That last painting is one of Morgan Weistlings, check out the awesome demos he has on his site - can't link to it as it's ... I dunno, not link friendly. That painting is the first in gallery one though.

On these studies, I would really recommend breaking things down into smaller parts so you can really tackle them, what is it you want to focus on most? If it's accuracy then I'd try some line drawings, if it's form and shapes and perhaps technique then I'd do value studies, if it's color - I'd do something else... hehe. It's just not as productive if you have to wrestle with learning everything at once you know?

    Also; CA Gift Exchanggggge!

I really like this one, the way you're telling a story with very few lines. I think you should practice drawing your lines once, then leaving them.. i see that you often re-draw your lines, making your drawings look messy.

keep up the studies, i really enjoy the doggie sketch.

the shoulders on your last painting seem really stiff and the neck seems to be trying to adapt to the neck instead of fitting in naturally. Also the jaw bone seems a little..."flimsy" and out of perspective.

the studies are nice, though not too clean.

latest portrait seems to lack value, kinda comes off flat, i think according to your avatar you're not doing your face justice yet, try monochromatic value study.

hey I'll try to give some hopefully useful advice

in your wip post December 7th, 2006, 09:54 PM Theres hardly any shift in value which flattens your image.

Having the same kind of problems this has helped me:
try to pre mix the the skin values - about 3 up to maybe as many as 5 values. Try them out by just doing quick studies of your nose. squint your eyes every now and then it makes it easier to see the value shifts. When you getting the values as you want them. Then continue with your sp with much of the value work already sorted out . One other thing: Simplify your head into planes doesn't look so good but is good when learning to get volume ... at least for me (and then you probably could smooth them out as you go along with the painting) As far as I learnt doing this is that I tend not to smear everything into one ugly value as much, though I still have a big tendency to do so

    Rock on
My sketchbook flawed to the max page 5
    Ps:Hope you understand my English.
Remember my advices taste best with a grain of salt.
