I'm sure somewhere 100ish pages of your sketchbook you've answered this before, but I was wondering when you paint (in general, but specifically looking at those recent portraits you've done) if you paint straight into color, or do black and white then glaze over with color.

Do you do both? If so, in what situations do you prefer to do each one?

If you don't go straight color, and do black and white first, what layer mode do you use to put the color on?

Hey Dave, amazing illustration. The ears? I'd make them long and wild or unbelievable short or break the borders. Create a dynamic composition. It's all about the ears.

I just finished this World of Warcraft commission for a guy. Its in the same style as my previous WoW pieces... Not exactly what I wanna move towards with the saturation and all but its ok.

Hopefully I'll be doin wotc and warhammer stuff this month and can work on my realismsmsmsms!

damn that's rly nice. Not at last why I played for some years also WoW. A Taur Shaman. And that Ten Storms Armor was my first Set with LvL 60, also I remember that shield. And Orgrimmar in the background, hehe Memories brings back, thx!

When I have time I rly need to watch your whole sketchbook. So much inspiration here. For me, this is one of the best Threads in CA.

Edit: Also I think everyone should take a look at Dave's first couple pages of this sketchbook. That was what, '06? Now take a look at the last few pages. 3 years and the difference is STAGGERING. It should be noted that his book is 103 pages! You think he draws alot, or sits around playing Xbox? Inspirational man, appreciated.
