A lot of studies! excellent! next time you should pay more attention to keep your lines cleaner, simpler and more uniform, that should help, keep it going as they say!

Hey Noodle, welcome to the SSG.I'll keep that in mind, thanks!
My ballpoint doodle from January 9th has kept inspiring me, and lately I've been trying out different ideas to complete the design (as you might have noticed). So here's two more sketches of the same thing, still moving things around, trying different things.
Hello
Really like the last sketch..especially the one on the left, the spikes on the boot and glove kind of carry on the pattern of the folded cloth, carries the eye across the character![]()
the last one is nice! are you gonna take it further? if so id suggest you to make the shoe tips pop out more, so they really look like shoes!nothing else here, keep posting!
impressive big SB Hai
(need more time to read all
one thing about your life drawing: try longer strokes (for example from the knee to foot in one stroke, don't stop in the middle, of course you can go over it as many times it needs)
after i read your character design, will comment
see ya
Angel: Thanks
Noodle: Not gonna take that particular sketch further, no. I'll make some new ones with the same design though, hopefully.
zou: ThanksTried to do longer strokes in todays session.
So, more life drawing. Feel these turned out better than the last oens. Darkened the last one a bit, since it was a little light and the hatching got lost.
sweet. cool stuff. nice pencil works. thanks for sharing. love to see more.
I'm starting to see some improvement here! You're starting to get looser, too. Good job, man.![]()
hello Hai
i'm pleased to see improvement !! lucky you doing real life drawing
i got a tip about how handle the pencil, (perhaps you already know it)
in the beginning, it's a hard to change habit but it helped me to do looser and bigger line. That's the way fine artist do it.
look at the photo, by taking the pencil with all the tips of your fingers and with a small tilt to the paper (of course your sketchbook is not vertical, but horizontal)
you make line with your arm (even your forearm and shoulder) not your wrist
of course draw bigger, this will make your little sketches more loose
you can change to normal writing handling to make details.
you already have very nice lines with your portraits, why not go further ?
Hi there
Really like the last update, especially the 3 minute ones.
Just wondered? Have you tried tonal drawing? I had a couple of great life drawing sessions last year using the side of conte pastels just blocking in the main bits and then adding a little shadow and highlights to give it form, if I felt like it then I'd do some defining lines over the top but tried not to use lines as much as possible. Was a good excercise in loosening up and it worked a treat.![]()
Angela: ThanksI'm aware of that technique, and it would no doubt do me good. Maybe I'll try that next time. At the moment I'm going to the life drawing with line quality and proportion in mind, so that's why it's more lines than rendering.
A real cheap update today, just a super fast sketch, playing with the design ideas from before. Proportions are wonky, I know.
post 340
good proportioned figure, you're improving ! do tons and tons and you'll improve
(hey what's that cheap update you're posting ???!!!
me ??? noooo, i'm always posting tons of works each post, no minor post !!!)
Good job developing your earlier designs! If you wanna take this further I'd suggest getting some reference for the pose. The angle of the head is particularly difficult to do.
zou: Yeah, need to draw more, more, more! hard though
Dizon: Hah, no shit! Hate drawing the head at that angle, but it looks so cool and has so much attitude. Gah, must find secret trick...
More life drawing. I wasn't motivated to draw at all today, but at least I got something down on paper. I tried holding the pencil the way you mentioned, zou. Felt pretty good, think I'll try it more next time.
Nice updates! You should practise facial perspective more, otherwise youre doing good!
nice to see you working and trying new things
some figure are too good for some who didn't want to draw
hello Hai
are those value drawn after ref or from mind
because the edges seems hard (the first one) remember there is hard edges and soft, that's add life to the drawing
the latests ones are much better, (that's why you must do more![]()
Maybe a brighter lightsource could help bringing out the form in your figures better, other than that, looking great! keep on posting!
#330; I know the feeling. I think when your drawing in general improves, it'll be much easier to put all those ideas down. Few things standing out: Think that little pose is pretty good. Also like that neck armor a lot, always have a weakness for that type of gear. Think its a shame you toned it down in the final sketch.
#332; Despite my last point, I like where the design is going. Dress may be a little impractical, but it's a nice thing to see you mix things together.
#336; Think the second pose on 2 minutes (woman turning) is one hell of a strong pose. In general - smooth studies. You should perhaps start out lighter with the shadows in the last poses and get a clear image of the shadowed areas. The crosshatched shadows seem a bit rushed.
#342; Think you did a good job on the design. The feminine dress element is still there, but more practical and less pronounced. Not sure about the leg armour. It seems crude compared to the stylish, military-like shoulder armour.
#345; There are some really really strong poses among those. Some of them show clear improvement. More confident lines, less 'scribblyness'.
#348; Perhaps Dizon can help you out with the values, I'm afraid to say the wrong things :| Think starting out with a few basic grays is a good idea though.
Great work man. Keep it coming! Those studies will surely help, and I´m looking forward to seeing new character sketches.
zou; That seems like an awkward way to hold a pencil! I'll try it out though, I'm sure you all know these things better than I do.

Hey Anders, great to see more life drawing from you! Maybe you should have taken reference photos for the lighting (I'm not sure if the models would allow that). Whenever I try to work the lighting from imagination, I would always think of the planes of the figure. That will help you figure out where the lights and darks would be.
I think some artist said that when working from life it's the lights that will give you the planes and when working from the imagination it's the planes that will give you the light. I think it was Elwell who said that.
Thaks for stopping by guys. Not been drawing enough lately. haven't been to the life drawing for 3-4 weeks either.
Anthis: Thanks a bunch for that man. Great to hear your thoughts and opinions on everything.
Dizon: Sounds smart.
Here are some moleskine sketches I've done the last couple of days
More stuff. Have this idea for a zombie comic, and being introduced to the comic creation software in the latest Imagine FX got me all excitedSo the portraits are some early character concepts.
Edit: added another concept (done during an exam)

A quick Jack the giantkiler doodle, and some more work on the character from last post. This time in her night-time, 'searching for food amongst the horde', outfit.
Jack doodle and initial zombie survivor character sketch
First lines based on the sketch
'Inked', ballpoint pen
Finished. Used ballpoint pen, copic markers and colored pencils. Would especially like some feedback on her jacket... Does it look like leather? That's what it's supposed to be
