Im not much of a doodler, so I'm just gonna post finished peices that I do out of boredom.

This is my first commisioned piece. A teacher in my school wanted me to draw this man, Sanford Sharoff. He was her husbands good friend who passed away (dont know when) and was a Basoon Player.

Medium: Charcoal
Size: 8.5"X11"

Hey, I just bought an 11"X14" Sketchbook! What should I draw on the first page?

This is one of the hardest things for me.
The first page always intimidates me

Help?Any suggestions?
I have Charcoal, Pencil, Colored Pencil, Paint(watercolor, acrylic, and oil), Oil Pastels.

Thank you for the comment on my Sketchbook!

You have some really solid work here, and I hope you will continue to push your skills.

I always think that doing Master Copies are a good idea. There are lots of great online resources for art, such as www.artrenewal.org. Try finding a great Master Drawing, and doing a study.

pretty decent here stuff watch your values and take your time. the eyes are never completely white they are usually grey around the outer edges and near the middle they get near white. if you study master paintings up close in a museum or gallery youll see that they usually grey around the pupil/iris and give a dot of white opposed to just making it. it really makes the eyes
"pop" as in 3d goodluck!!

Good stuff mate. Seems like you'll be taking the route of realistic painter, eh?

Try to consider overall form when you shade. Values and form of the big masses are just as important as the small ones.

Thank you very much for visit my sketchbook. Good start, solid charcoal work. Maybe a bit softer shades would be good and work a bit on the details.
The lightning is good so keep on working
