Sketchbook of ultimate horror and d00m.

Look at last page for new stuff!

These pics were pretty much and so I thought they probably scare away more people than they attract, so I removed them. pld:

    Edit:

Got em back up. No harm in that. Might remind myslef of where I´ve come fom.

glad to see that a lack of posts didn't discourage you. You see where you've drawn small, simple figures in dynamic poses while trying to maintain proportions...that's good...do more of that, they are coming out nice. For my tastes, your armor is slightly too exagerated....be careful....the more believable the better IMO. keep going with it, and keep proportions accurate. Personally, i really like that portrait of the old man

Thank you Nofingers for your reply ^^. I'll take what you said to heart. However, today I've had a major revelation! I'm extremily stuck in my motives! Always the heroic guys with big massive armors. I can't belive I've been so blind for so long! From this day on I´ll start becoming more versatile. I need to try new pencils, new techniques and so on. It won´t be comfortable, but I think it will be worth it in the end. That said, here is one of my latest sketches meant to be for soem sort of upcoming hobby GBA game.

    Fare thee well!

A small image background for a simple game at school. I think it's turning out quite pretty ^^.

I really liked painting an environment. A good break from all those gawdanged heroic generic guys...

A few new sprites for the aformentioned game. Funny, I actually had to decrease the detaillevel in order to make the character "pop out" more.

Skeletonwarrior; no undead army is complete without one...

    Evil lich...

Big Zombie who protect others wearing a big shield...

Study of motion seems to pay off well! The rest still needs refinement, but you're doing very well.

Prophet: Thanks man, I'll try to keep it up and improve. About the game; It's pretty much a very simple action game. You have the undead horde streaming out of the jaws of the big skull trying to reach the well in order to poisin the water, thus spelling certain doom for the nice town. The player takes the role of a host of archers, placed in front of the well, and have to arch the arrows using a built in rollerball on the arcadecabinet. Eventually the player recieves specialattacks as well. The player will have to fend off xx levels in order to beat the game and hopefully get a highscore. That's about as much as I can say at this stage. I'll keep you updated with additional sprites as they come along.

Bartovan: You have my gratitude! Extremily encouraging ^^ Just out of curiousity though, could you be a bit miore specific about the parts that need refinement? Is it the anatomy, lines, values, composition, motives, or as I believe, all of the above =)?

    A pretty quick Hogarth ref

Heh, I wanted to try out something new. I think I went farther from my regular stylization and aimed for something more realistic, at least in terms of values and shadows. Scared as I was I abandoned my trusty 0.5 mechanical pencil to try out a 6b pencil. I ended up liking it pretty much, although it felt somewhat uncomfortable. Anyways, here it goes.

Thx Cyberphobia! Unfortunately Trevor came out a bit too generic for my taste. So I guess I'll go for some of the others^^

ANyway, here are some more concepts.

Anyways, I thought I'd put together a small tutoriallike thingie. Not that I consider myself good enough to make a tutorial, but It's a great learningexperience for me. It explains my process.

    1. Making thumbnails. Many sketches, sometimes it takes several pages of these before I find a motion or pose I'm satisfied with. I wanted this guy to be powerful, sorta like mister incredible from "The Incredibles", but a bit more Sci-fi.

(the things outlined by red is what I eventually went for).

    2. Next is the sketch. Trying to find motionpaths and dynamics, proportions and some basic anatomy. Basically putting on large forms. I often find it useful to put out the joints with balls and suggesting limbs with lines.

    3. Refine.

    4. More Refine.

    5. Done! About 1,5 hours of work from the thumbs to finish. Yay, I think it turned out alright. I'm calling this a finished concept. Perhaps I'll colour this little rascal. I dont know how to ink just yet, hopefully I'll learn it some day.

Just started the colouring. Just added flats. A new layer in PSP set to multiply, and then lost of lassotool and fill and paintbucket. Now I can start making effects in a new layer duplicating my basecoloured layer.

ANyways, here goes the next part of the colouring. The adding of shadows. I decided a light source early on, and now I'll follow up on it.

Thx Infinit, I'd never consiered that ^^. This is actually a concept for a pretty dark game (3d!). Think the contrast will work?

Anyways, here's the finished image. Added Rimligts and gradients. Also cleaned up somewhat in the linewok. Hope ya dig!

Thank you extremily much Danny, it means a lot to me. Poses and dynamics, lines and so forth is something I've become alot more aware of. I can see an improvement in my art, if I dare say so myself, as of just a few days back. I really think improvement goes in waves, sorta like a staircase a good friend of mine said. Hope I can keep you happy with my upcoming sketches!

Hurri: I am honored by your presence. Looking forward to doing some serious sketching together. Ill be leeching knowledge from you like a parasite^^, perhaps a bad metaphor but hey, I'm blonde. Well, brownhaired anyways. I was so gawdamned demorailzed by the frickin awesome quality of those thumbs in your dreamlords thread. Just starting to regain my wits.

Anyway, here's a small page of some sketches involving motion, poses and so forth. I try to keep focus on shapes. But right now, I'm soooo tired. Dont you just hate before bed inspiration?!=)

Thx EKU_11! The cartoonish look is not something I've consciously chosen though. Im too young, and really not experienced enough to choose a style just yet. That said, I enjoy the freedom of shape you get drawing more cartoonish. Here are some sketches.
