    Chaos Ships

I started this one about two years ago and finally got back to it and was able to finish it. Anyway, thanks for all the help in the work in progress thread. The idea comes from the final book in the Elric trilogy by Michael Moorcock. Any crits are welcome. Enjoy!

here are a few details as well...

I really like the ocean and cliffs, they are well rendered and got a nice color scheme.
To some degree I also like the sky, but it get's a bit too boring near the sun.
But the main problem with this image is imo the ships, they don't fit perspective and size wise at all.
    Love the ocean

you did a great work with the water! -but yes, the perspective of the ships is a problem and it´s hard to find the figures in the dark. but the water is great!

Great picture. Little weird they're pulling their swords from the scabbards when the ships are still far away and they're high up.
    Nice water indeed. Lovely.

In the book they're all huge and menacing things right? I'm not getting anything of that. The rendering's good, but the empty composition and perspective leave to be desired. And i wanna see more of Elric.

Thanks guys! You all make great points. I knew this piece had definate issues with perspective, ,I started it a few years ago, hopefully I've grown since then. Anyway, Iwas trying to pull off a weird fisheye effect with the downward view behind the three guys and the eye level horizon. Thanks for the crits!

Walnut - I did take some license. They were actually on horsseback and Elric had the huge Chaos shield. I originally thought it may have been distracting to put it in, I wish I had now. Oh well...

i really like the whole concept, its very interesting. the water looks great with the waves. the shoreline is also awesome, you did a great job with the water crashing up upon the cliffs. finally, that little storm that the ships are dragging behind is a great idea.

It looks to me like the horizon line was pulled way down to fit the sky into the image. If you look the line actually converges with the farthest island, which shouldnt occur. It should be like halfway up into where the sky is. Then the perspective of the ships might be more aparent to you.
I really love the water and the wake of the ships.

Love the water! I think the image would get a big boost if you take just the foreground area - the fugres and the cliff they're on - and up the brightness of that part. They'd pop more from the background and it'd be easier to see the figures.

what everyone else said-the perspective issues, and I'm also wondering what's that behind the ships? The blurry things?
Nice idea, cool style and wonderful colors..

Wow, the ocean and cliffs are great, I love them.

I think the ships should have some of the Sun's light on their backsides however. Especially coming through the "thinish" material that makes up the sails and flags.

    Again, wicked ocean!

Hey guys thanks for the comments! Yeah, in the book a fog followed surrounded the ships. Some kind of evil aura. I made the foreground dark because some peeps thought it was too hard to distingush the rocks from the water. Maybe I should go back and lighten it up a bit.

Originally I had the vapor much darker and larger and reachin out towards the shore more, but I felt it was confusing, especially if you hadn't read the book. Now it may be moreso since its less previlent. Oh well.
