Diego Heh Cheers dude. My improvement is nothing compared to the likes of min and co though, i spend too much of my time playing games but hopefully ill be able to make amends!

Finally off of page 11! - Its nice to go over page 9, 10 and 11 because theres a fuck ton of pictures and although i've got better ive still got a ton to learn.

I've been a bit slack with studys lately so heres a couple of value studys. I really like working in value but I need to get back into understanding colour and applying it to my stuff. Im falling into my comfort zone of just working in black and white lately and thats really fucking lazy. So ill probably try do a few pages of environment studies or whatever to try strengthen my weaknesses.

Also, i decided to hit up posemaniacs and try those 60second poses... made me realise how much i fucking blow and fail at human anatomy. I was almost getting the full pose down in my sketchbook but im not sure about its accuracy, still... i think i managed to capture the pose but theres still a load of room for improvement.

So, lets start the new page off with a bang!

That painting of the lady in post 332 is amazing. The guy, though terrific, feels a little lifeless by comparison though. I can't quite put my finger in the issue though..

Havoc heh, youre not the first person to say that and i know what youre getting at!

Been doing some quick/loose environment and colour studies that ive been putting off for way too long. These ended up being fairly decent little exercises and i tried to force myself not to get too anal with details. I dont know which would benefit me more, spending 1-2hours striving for accuracy of details or doing quick 20-30min studies focusing on colour/general composition and reasonable accuracy.

Thanks a bunch for lookin and any comments crits welcome

I've been finding myself relying way too heavily on the side by side comparison shit lately. Maybe not relying but exploiting and im not getting the most out of studying digitally i think. I do wonder what im learning with these studies besides colour. Theyve definately helped me get a better understanding of saturations and how tricky grey colours can be to get right but apart from that I dont know.

Im goin to spend a bit more time doing traditional things that will help me put 3d things into 2d... my figures and so forth are really weak still sooo thats a definate first place to revisit!

oalex Im slacking on the traditional stuff at the moment, done a couple of selfportraits that bare little likeness and doodled other odds n sods...

Started working on doing hand studies from loomis too and ill mix in some studies of my own hand as well. I dunno what it is about working from 2d things at the moment but I really want to avoid doing it. It feels like copying images - regardless of subject matter does nothing to help me in drawing it from life. Whereas i can imagine being able to draw a hand from life would have an impact on your ability to draw it from 2d.

Well whatever, a mate of mine decided we should take it in turns to pick a picture to do a study of and these are a couple of those. Time limited to 1hour and startin Monday we will probably be picking a figure to do too. Good fun!

Right, now its the start of a new week its time to +1 to the things to study daily! - now its an environment and a figure!

I'm trying to cut down on the amount of things i use digitally that ive been relying on to get a good likeness - this has slowed me down a bit but hopefully ill learn all the more from it.

Now im just using a side by side crutch and lots of squinting to get the colours. My skin tones ended up reasonably accurate but my environment study suffered a lot. I'm capping these at an hour each, my main goal is to get a reasonable likeness so im definately failing at detail. I dont want to custom brushes too much either, most of these are a chizzled brush with a bit of a textured pastel brush to finish.

Any tips/advice or whatever much appreciated.

algen Heh thanks dude! I'm getting there with value and colour although im still really shite from my head.

Todays! I was really out on my colours in the environment today... on comparing i dont know how i overlooked it, i was really surprised. Everything was vereing too much towards red (more orange than yellow, more blue than turquoise). Also there was a lot to consider so I guess its full of inaccuracys that i fucked up on as i was limiting it to 1hour. Good shit though, I guess a mistake means i have something to learn from!

These 2 were tough cookies to get right... not that they are. I thought i was slow when i was just dealing with organic shapes and figures let alone clothes details and perspective.

well your figures look lovely and the skin tones are gorgeous!! and even if your colours aren't matching the references perfectly they sure as hell look great! Thanks for your advice on my value study over on C9. If you want to see how i finished it i posted it in my sketchbook here. I think it ended up close to how you thought it should. Keep up the daily updates, i love it!

oalexis Yeah, defo got to keep up the daily updates... need to be pushing my pencil and figure stuff more in my sketchbook! Cheers dude.

It was my turn to pick the references so I found some ones that had greens in the pallette... because well, ive not done enough green yet! Sure ive been painting yellow green but not turqoise green or not quite yellow green!

Whatever, also - Hataraki Man is a fun anime series!

Todays pictures; will hopefully have something from mah sketchbook later this week too... although theyre pretty arse.

    oal hehehe!

Been slacking the last 2 days, been sorting things out here and there and just general tinkering slowly me down. I also brought Warhammer Online to play with some friends and its ok so far but I really think ive burned myself out with MMO's as my drive to play that isn't that great. I still need to start piling on more hours with my drawing though, especially after these latest ones turning out quite shit.

I think these are all around an hour, some may be cut short due to interuptions... these are probably some of the worst yet which is a bit of a bummer, i'd like to get quicker at these but i guess i need more focus and less chatting shit on vent while i draw.

oal Hehe, i try to judge all my things under my longterm goal sorta thing - world domination - also these are still fairly rough for an hour and I get to see the hardships i have picking the colours and comparing them to the ref and seeing how far apart they are when all im doing is copying :3

Right, not been updating daily because ive had some slack days... some with good excuses some without, but i do plan on catching up! just means sittin down for 5 or so hours, no biggy.

I dont know how long i'll keep these up for but im going to be throwing 2 15minute studies into the mix starting next week to try and help me try and find a better means to construct my pictures. At the moment i go back and forth too much and i could probably find a way to cut out the middleman of redoing and defining some edges.

Hopefully when i go back to doing personal work this wont all be lost and ill have attained something, fuck knows.

    - Also, as much as i dislike cutting corners and abusing the shortcuts of digital shit i do wonder about a better way to approach less organic shapes and repeating things. This is kinda clear to see in my train station shit thing.

    c&c on process really appreciated!

shifty Heh cheers dude, hopefully i'll do more collabs at some point with my added colour madskillz?! hopefully heh
katinki Thanks! I was on page 11 for 9 months so it'd be nice to think there's been some improvement - although im probably still not drawin enough! I'm sticking to these hour studies till well, i dont know when! im shit at finishing things D:
    shalite Hehehe
oal Yeah the ones you picked were nice pictures too and the pictures are still super hawt!

More studies! Although i've still got a fair bit of backlog to sort out due to my slackness. I think im getting quicker in these recent ones, well... it kinda feels that way - things just end up looking right quicker and somehow detail appears out of nowhere. That being said these are still looooose and i still suck at buildings. And yeah, ive started doing quick 15min studies too - only one this update cuz im slack!

A quick sketch thrown in to boot, doodling around in my comfort zone of black and white with a softbrush. One could say its very Min inspired and well, yeah it is! I might tighten it up some more at some point because im still having fun with it.

    Alex Yo dude! nice to have you drop by - as for mah brushes n shit i've been sticking with zhuzhus;

    http://zhuzhu.deviantart.com/art/Z-P...es-V2-55088505

For the majority of this page ive been using Pastel / Art Marker and a default soft round brush! 100% opacity and Flow on pen pressure! I dont like painting with opacity because i prefer using the palette and having full control over my colours. Unless im working in black and white then i basically... "scupt" with a softbrush, which is stupidly fun and mindless \o/ - ill hopefully get around to finishin colourin your dude at some point, tis good shit.

    oal Cheers man!

Well shit, ive been slacking the last few days... Got wayyy to drunk on friday and ive been lazing around since. Ive almost caught up the slack but i've still got to 3-4 to catch up on which is a bugger! Still, its all good fun... I started colouring Alex's awesome lineart from this thread over; http://conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=95523 - which if you go there you can see fullsize and fullawesome.

I might get around to finishing it at some point but im finding it hard to juggle 3hours of studies + occasional life studies and games! D: Trackmania and Stepmania rock hard.

15min stuff first, if anyone has any suggestions regarding my approach or whatever thatd be awesome, im kinda fondling around in the dark trying to speed up at the moment. Dont know whats right or wrong.
