Icon Flipbook 2: Who what now? [Feb 14]

Haven't posted in over half a year (besides a t-dome entry and chow entry) for these reasons:

Last semester I was studying in Milan, difficult to organise internet and whatnot so no posts from me then. Very much enjoyed the Prague workshop, all the guys were really cool, chatted with Marko while waiting for my plane. And recently got back (via Japan), to find that there's a shitload of work in 4th year industrial design.

So here's some digital stuff since the last time I posted:

and today (25mins limit, CGTalk sketch group):

    IDW entry:

Concept: Originally developed for the big screen, initially to provide a simpler method of 'aging' an actor, the technology quickly started to allow prominent stars to take on parts that they wouldn't normally be suited for, at least visually. As the technology progressed it became cost effective to produce a model for the consumer market, maintaining it's link to acting with the comedy/tragedy 'smile'. Unfortunately internet users have been bombarded by their overly blunt advertising. Celebrity sightings have increased exponentially since it's introduction.

    Thanks Skeiff.

3CH - A dissimulated missile meets with a winged horse under a storm:

    COW - Blind Hunter:

Concept: In the tropic climate of the Suur Wetlands lives an extraodinary creature, known only as the 'blind hunter'. Scientists are unsure whether it evolved from some sort of cat, or a rodent. Whatever it's origins, this largely bald creature, sporting a unique beard, is incredibly intellegent. It seems that their large ears are their primary way of interpreting the world. They have small territories that they seem to be intimately familiar with, scientists believe they have a 'photographic' memory (for lack of a better word). It's intellect is it's main weapon, this creature is a master of deceit and problem solving.
Interestingly, autopsies of the 'blind hunter' have revealed that evolution hasn't quite rid them of their eyes, these small features, about the size of a marble and completely unattached to the brain, are now to be found on the inner wall of their cheek. This seems to cause no discomfort to the creature.

Form: Yeah, sounds like an idea.

Scanned in a couple of car sketches, working on a design for the wheels comp - I'm really liking that front view.

Sopor+Aeternus, sith, gmags: Thanks for stopping by.

This is hopefully a wip for IDW - Deep Sea Colonisation Vessel. I'll see if I've got more time to work on it, I'd like to try a nice close-up front on view with cool atmospheric perspective to show off the size of it, not something I've really tried before.

ColonInc's latest deep sea colonising vessel - Doug - has been developed for planets with molten cores. It deploys massive drills to bore to the planet's center. Meanwhile Doug docks above and is supplied with a plentiful source of energy. Depending on the composition of the molten core the cooled elements may be used for construction purposes by the work gangs of droids (droids sold separately, batteries not included). Doug can be maintained as a power station after colonisation is complete, however remember to renew your contract as failure to do so will result in the shutting down of all Doug's systems remotely. In such a case, or in the unexpected failure of Doug's systems, all colonists should be wary of unabated molten flows as, in some cases, they can be detrimental to health.

Tigermilk: Thanks, now that the semester's over and dissertation is handed in I should have the time to get to some life drawing, I'm painfully aware of my poor anatomy.

Picked up the oils for the first time in 3.5 years. Started a self portrait. Hears a few steps, the last is where I finished up today, around 4 hrs. There's issues with it, I'll try to fix them tomorrow, although there's nothing I can do for the poor placement.

    Styler: All 2D in here.

Quickish COW, looking at it now it looks almost more like a robot:

    The 50 Shambler:
So named because of the distinctive footprint caused by a irregular walk, although some people say "SO". This walk provides a slightly greater field of view, the shambler having no neck or means of changing field of vision other than by the moving it's entire body. In it's home environment, on the sands of Derf, the shambler exists as the only large carnivore, feeding on the small amount of desert life.

    Enlightenment 1.0 for IDW:

The Thinker Corporation has developed along the notion of 'knowledge is power'. With the goal of turning the world's people into their puppets Thinker Corporation developed the Enlightenment 1.0 bringing happiness to people through the idea of 'ignorance is bliss'. Enlightenment 1.0 is, in fact, a glorified lobotomiser, capable of various degrees of 'stupification' through the focusing of electromagnetic waves on particular areas of the brain. The level of 'stupification' is globally controlled through an encrypted satellite network so that the company can wait for market saturation before dumbing down the populace too much. In order to detract from the negative impact this product has on a person's mental capabilities Enlightenment 1.0 releases spores that create endorphins on contact with the skin, aiming to be released primarily in the nasal cavity or mouth to provide that feeling of 'enlightenment'. The spores are generated through the application of an electrical current to a bio-engineered 'mother' and decay rapidly leaving virtually no trace. Multiple use at the same level results in a negligible decrease in cognitive power, relying purely on the released endorphins. The workings of this model are kept in tight control - anti-tamper features stop users from deducing it's workings.

    Here's the first try:

Thanks Dile, I agree about it being too sad, and I don't really like how it's going so I'm going to redo it.

Here's the WIP, I'll try to inject some more humour into it [edit: linked due to current state of crappiness]:
