Since our wonderful teacher becomes sick around most traditional media, several students at our college are experimenting with using tablets and photoshop/painter (photoshop for myself) on our laptops. This was one of the pieces done last Thursday.

Couple design ideas from a huge batch for a revisited design of Jack and the Beanstalk. The designs themselves are to have a Claire Wendling-esque designsense to them.

In progress inks of a mock up Comic Cover...I'm still unsure if I'll be cropping the lower character's leg or not...

The inks were done in illustrator as I teach myself how to use it for digital inking.

Nice style, just keep posting more. I really like the tablet life drawings. I like the viking and lion type monster guy, but I feel their movement could be more exaggerated.

    Nice sketchbook.

In your "15 min" work the arms look a bit short compared with the body.

Once someone gave me the colorful remark "she can't scratch her arse" for the same problem.
"Create like a god, command like a king, work like a slave."

Hey Matt! Laguna? Laguna College of Art and Design? I agree with the norse dude, he seems more stiff, but I did enjoy inking the beast guy. I wonder if the inking isn't translating from the sketches as well. :/

    Thank you Kristian! I'll try!

Uziel: Hmm. Perhaps. I'll try flipping the image at home.

Interceptor: No complaints about no complaints.

I'll update this puppy later tonight when I have access to a scanner at home.

Finals are beatin me down... here's a few final sketches from Character Design based on the story Jack and the Beanstalk (the original version). The idea was to mimick an artist as closely as we could. I chose Claire Wendling. Unfortunately AND fortunately for me, my teacher worked with her, so he was great at giving pointers on her style, but alas, I've got A LOT to learn. It was a fun experience though...

More to come, my animation final is tomorrow so it's time to hit the hay. Hope everyone's doing well

Yowch... I need to keep this more up to date!

My semester thus far has been taking classes on visual development, storyboarding, and character design... with those lovely fundementals of a laptop digital life drawing class and a gesture workshop.

For Visual Development we had to take an artist we enjoyed, and emulate him. These are based of Peter de Seve's work. Still not there yet...but closer than I was at the beginning of the semester.

aaaand a few life drawings... Drawing from life on a laptop is interesting. Any techniques or tips greatly appreciated. I end up fighting my computer over speed, I'm on iBook G4 with 256MB of RAM. These were done in Photoshop. My main problems are that I seem to lose proportions on long poses, and I find myself drawing angles that aren't actually there. So I try to actually write out what I want to work on at the top of drawings. The second drawing is of my friend Zak while we were watching TV about 20 minutes or so worth. Again, I'm new to this whole painting digitally thing (I've worked with oils and acrylics, but I enjoy watercolors more).

Again, all advice is welcome... I know line mileage is the best way to become a better artist, but I feel like I need a fresh set of eyes to help me know what I need to work on.

Thanks for being so inspiring everyone You guys rock

    Red face

Been outta commission for awhile due to 'life' as it were....

    Some animal drawins!

    And life drawings!

    15 minutes on Painter 9

    7 minute painter piece

    And master copies!

Despite working with Painter for a whole semester I still feel like such a noob on it :/ I used basically two brushes, oils, dry brush round I believe and flat wet... What was neat about doing life drawings/paintings in Painter is that we used a 30 minute pose to mix a palette for each session...

A year between posts, and apparently most of my older posts are defunct, I'll try to wade back through them to fix links at some point. Since I was last about, I graduated, moved, found work at a studio, did tons of sketchcards... but one of my true loves will always be zoo sketching...
