    college dilema

    Hey everyone,

I'm a junior in hs right now and college isn't far off. The thing is is that I've been doing pretty well in school and there are possibilities of going to some nice academic schools, but what I really want to do is art. My parents pretty much know this, but are uncomfortable with a full on art school, I dunno maybe its the name, but they'd rather make a compromise maybe a midway thing...been thinking about going to a University of california either LA or Berkley...I was wondering if these schools that aren't specifically art schools could actually take you to where you need to go for art--by the way i'm interested in a broad range of art, but am curious if there is something i could study in college that could encompass and keep the doors open to movie effects, 3-D animation, and traditional animation and also illustrating...anyone know anything about my kinda situation like going to these schools or even ivy leagues that may have stuff...

I know at RIngling, Computer Animation has a 2nd year ( think) traditional animation thing.

Illustration major I hear is also useful for Traditional animation.

Have you heard the no college speech btw? Ask Jason Manley about College.

Go to a university for a couple years. Test out their art department. If it's not what you're looking for, you can transfer to a private art school that meets your needs. This way it's cheaper and your parents can warm up to the idea of you in an art career.

Universities normally teach only three kinds of visual art majors: Art education, graphic design and fine art. It's not going to be the kind of specific art program you're looking for, but it's a start.

Im in Loyola Marymount University's animation program right now. They have a decent art program as well there, but they are mainly well known for their film school. Still, the animation program is gradually becoming fairly decent.

If you have any questions bout it then PM me or something..
