    Grml, wondering if I should hate you or love you...
    I'm totally in love with your portraits and your environments. Especially the portraits have such a sick rendering. ;__;

    @Danny_K: Thanks

    @ kikindaface: Thanks for checking things out!

    @kischi: Awesome, glad it was an enjoyable return trip!

    @crisimikiwiki: Not specifically, though I no doubt had that subconscious influence going on

    @chevy28360: I'm tryin'...

    @Korovnichenko: It is chromatic aberration; I know of two ways to do it using Photoshop. For both methods, you need to first have a single layer of whatever you want to have the effect on (select all layers to merge, then Ctrl+Shift+Alt+E).

    You can then either go to Filter>Lens Correction, then open the "Custom" tab, and move the three sliders around to get the color offset you want - OR - (the easier way in my opinion) yon can Right Click on the layer in the layer panel and choose "Blending Options...", and in the "Advanced Blending" area, you can un-check combinations of the color tick boxes. Both of these methods will result in some tasty color-fringe effects to get that certain look if you so desire!

    @Nemome: Well, I would hope we can be on good terms :p I intend to be around for a while, so hopefully that is good news...

    @ChrisTwaitees: Heh, thanks I have PLENTY more to learn, so I will have plenty more to post in the future.

    I'm just curious, how long does it take you to do your illustration stuff? It takes me a while until I can find the right thumbnail to even start drawing. Then getting reference and getting the drawing down, then the painting, I just find it takes me a little bit of time. You seem to bust this stuff out pretty quickly.

    Istmin52:

    People ask about this every now and then- one of my strengths, but also weaknesses at times, is that I do make things pretty quickly. Most of the stuff, as in, the vast majority, 99%+ of the stuff on here, is done in under 4-5 hours, faster for simple sketches. Honestly, one of my goals is to slow down and really push not just rendering, but more importantly the design and appeal of things.

    As for process- I remember in art school, much talk of the "proper" ways to do things; a certain order of how you are supposed to approach this or that. I believe everyone thinks differently, has different goals with their art, and should work in whatever way gets them what they are looking for and challenges their weaknesses. When I started learning to draw and paint, I was way to hung up on doing things "by the rules", so most of the time I work to push away from that, since for me what is useful to me is thinking abstractly and scribbling a lot.

    All that to say, when I work for myself, as all the stuff on here, unless noted, is personal work, I just sit down and go on gut feeling. That means lots of messing around and trying new things, tossing out shapes, and just going with what feels right-no thumbnails or anything. This helps to make me notice things I would never think of doing if I decided to plan my steps, and (for me) helps hone my instincts. That said, all types of practice are good to try out and understand. I learn well this way, and I can then work these experiments into the art I make at work.

    Approaching characters is a little different than environments, but it still comes down to capturing a feeling, and that is generally my starting point more than anything else. Find what works best for how your mind works, and nurture that. As cool as other artists may look doing something a certain way, the fact is you will always be yourself, and that is something to be worked with, rather than against. Think of practice as polishing what is there, since there are tons of good ways to do things- all that matters is the end result.
