sketchbook - big ol dump (nudity) - 5.27.08

Apparently my old file host went bankrupt and turned to spam, sorry about the inconvenience

Ok, starting over becasue I got in trouble for using too much bandwidth on the school servers by hosting all of my sketchbook images from it so instead of going back and fixing every damn link I'm just starting fresh.

    Last post in old SB:

Traditional meduims! ....and some digital, boring abstract digital, but it's for class and might as well get it out of the way first. Hats off to you if you can see the 3 ordering systems used in it.

car rendering on tracing paper with markers and colored pencil

    just pencil on reg paper

WIP of final project of the quarter for drawing class, a 5 step transformation between 2 objects, I'm doing nintendo 64 controler and a hand, it's due monday, I gotta get working. Last 2 are out of order, marker and colored pencil on vellum.

thunderdome orthos, will be redrawing digitally soon, maybe I'll dust off illustrator and do some vectors.

misc doodles over the past few days

Looks like the first ones are from observation? Keep on doing those but i would recommend doing some very quick (2 minute sketches) of the things you are drawing. particularly the people, just try to get the shapes down as fast as possible, and you will begin to notice proportions starting to look better and shapes jumping out.

-Then move onto the details... Other then that just keep drawing and clean up with line work.

Watch the cranium on the smoking dude. They're not so much domes but are a bit longer in the back of the skull (if that makes sense).

Your pencils are getting more expressive, I like that, some cool designs here. The morphing N64 controller is great, where'd you get the idea from?

Some good ideas in your pictures but try to concentrate on the most important lines. Try to split up things you draw in forms and don't start with trying to do lines and shapes at the same time. It's more eays at first to add them later.
    Go step for step
    Keep it up

    Quick little update here

@mbetteker: Most of these are pretty spontanious but I'll try focusing on the overall shapes more

@iolarnula: I have many anatomy problems, I need to sit down with my copy of loomis and hammer that out but thanks for the pointers. got the idea for the morph out of desperation of not haing an idea and just picked two similar looking objects I had at my disposal.

@DeadRoad7: thanks, you're one of the few people who saw it and recognized him

@Mort: Thanks, they're fun to draw

@GunTrouver: Thanks for the pointers, as I said before they're kind of spontaneous so I really don't think out much compositon beforehand but I'll try to focus on overall form before details.

and here's a speedy one that came up when I was suposed to be writing one of three research papers due this week.

@Apocalypse: thanks, I intend to do just that

School has decided it wants to kick my ass, so I haven't been too productive art wise, heres a quickie I did half of tonight though, my neigbor was hanging out and started drawing w/ my tablet and I finished it up. Some analog sketches soon, I filled up my old moleskin and need to get another.

Rooobotsss Try using some more opaque brushes for larger areas, it'll up the crispness. I dig the portrait, really expressive.

portrait looks really nice - echo iolarnula about harder edges to the shapes there. Har edges create more contrast, apparently, so if your eyes are a bit cleaner and sharper they will really pop and draw attention to the face - good stuff!

Your 3D work is coming along. The textures looks good and i can se it is some audiojack something. Might want to add a bump map to the wooden board.
I havn't been able to reply in some days now, no internet connection in the jungle. To bad, hope you all had or will have a great Spring Break.

The portrait stuff looks great, and about heckler comics, i have no idea where to get them. Mine were given to me in a giant old box, and there were only six or seven issues, so I have no clue.

I think your perspective vhiecles are the best ones. Consistant lineweight in all of them and good shading. Some of your sketches are meybe a bit sketchy, this is personal taste but I, for myself preferr a bit more refined look.
Hands also need some more work, I know there is a Loomis book about this and a Bridgeman one.
Overall you could also use a program to cranck up the contrast a bit.

But this is good stuff and drawing makes perfect.

Your skull and hand studies are looking good! As for your other creatures, just remember to start with the basic geometric shapes as the structure when sketching, and build them from there. I like the flying bike designs
