Woohoo!, my first sketchbook. As if It couldn't get bad enough, i now have a place to collectively put all my bad drawings! I've been lurking around here for about half a year and rarely post, so i'm sure none of you know me. My name is Mitchell. I just turned 18 at the end of last year. I have a VERY long long (long) road ahead of me. I'll do my best to post daily.

hmm. still no comments haha. The links are working right? Didn't get too much sketching done today because of work but here is my try at the Linda Bergkvist tutorial. This was the first thing I did when I got my tablet about 3 months ago.

You are doing excellent work at a young age, so I imagine experience will be your best friend as you work daily on your craft. Composition, attention to detail and selection/blending of colors are your strengths. Your work provides a warm and lasting impression, and I enjoy viewing it. Thank you for sharing.

Doubleplay54 - That's one of the nicest comments I have ever received about my work. Lots of times I get discouraged, but comments like that make me push even more. Thank you and I'm glad you enjoyed it.

More figure studies soon. but until then critique these as hard as you want!

a little update on the girl. I was too damn tired to do anymore last night. About 50% done. I just blocked in the basic shapes. I'm dieing for comments/critiques/put-downs! anything!

You have the advantage of age; it's certainly no disadvantage.

Love the first two digitals, very nice color choices and lighting. I love your pencils completely, especially the skull study.

Those environments are great, man! And you seem to have a really good handle on using the tablet. Keep working on your faces. Your studies are real nice.

I'm racking my brain trying to find something constructive to say about the girl. I know from experience that saying, "Wow, man, that's great, keep it up," doesn't really help, true though it may be. So I will say this: in all painting, the rule is working general to specific. It would be nice to see the whole figure worked out before you start detailin'.

Your proportions are sound and your rendering is awesome, so keep it up.

What can i say, i am inlove. THIS is SOME great piece of art dude. The expression of this girl is awesome. Maybe u should try to finish the face (some more touches here and there), and not to conentrate too much on the body. Anyway, i think it's love at first sight. AWESOME dude. REALLY. I can't wait to see it finished. Please finish it so i can dream at her all day long

T-Raktor: Haha thanks. I'm glad you're in love. I'm not sure if you know, but this is a ref painting. I kind of got the hint that you might think I did it from scratch. I can't remember her name, but i'll find out and let you know. I'm sure you will like this next update...

I have now completed her dress, left leg, did a couple subtle touches to the face and made her a bit taller, and blocked in the rest of the figure. I wrote that little note by her arm just to let you guys know that that arm is still in progress (i'm sure you could tell anyway). I'll finish everything tommorrow, plus some more pencil work to scan in.

P.S. this is a ref image. I'm sorry if I failed to mention that.

Sweet skintones, man; she looks tasty.

The right side of her face (her right) is looking a little odd, though. Almost cut off. It's lovely otherwise, though. And great job with the feet and sandals, as well as the dress. You've managed to get that stretchy sorta silk look. Looking forward to seeing this updated.

Lotekk: Thanks bud, I'm glad you like it. And yeah her face does look cut off, Ill fix that soon. I actually haven't worked on it since then. Been doing lots of pencil work lately.

New update! I got some new sketchbooks, including a mini sketchbook. some stuff from my mini sketchbook this past couple days. Haven't updated in awhile sorry. I'll do my best to update more often. Getting ready for Montreal!!

Sweet stuff dude! Don't get discouraged if you get no comments, but take it as inspiration to do better work and develope as an artist. That's what I do anyways.

hey! it's nice to see you starting a life drawing class. On the painting of the girl, you might want to think more about the background than just a flat white. If you just paint in a midtone of a neutral cool color it will really make the skin tone pop out.... there are a lot of different moods you can push simply by changing the background and it's relationship to the figure. Don't be afraid to deviate a lot from the reference, especially when it comes to color. Also, not all of your edges need to be hard edges, and if some of them are more blurry and more suggestive many times the painting/drawing will be much more active and interesting to look at. keep working!

Thanks for stopping and commenting in my SB - I really like what you have going on here, expecially for your age! Unfortunately I don't really have any crits for you, it looks like you are already doing the right things....

if anything, you might want to start learning perspective. I am sure it won't be long before you want to put poeple, vehilces, and enviroments together in compostions and angles that you can't find ref. for!

Since you left a comment on my darling sketchbook, I decided to drop by and do the same.

You are off to a very good start, especially being 18.
Here is a quick tip. Remember to use core shadows, highlights and reflective lights on your life drawings. They will give your art more dimension. I know you have it in some drawings but try and use it on your studies.
