    Storm : Movie Concepts [updated]

Hey guys, time to post more
Last year (around summertime I guess) I did some concepts for a swedish sci-fi thriller. I haven't seen the movie yet, but it's at cinemas in scandinavia I think ( http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0446476/ ). Anyway, it was really fun to be part of a movie and actually seeing my concepts coming to life with real actors and special effects, I haven't worked much with movie before. And, I was really amazed to see how much the effects apartment managed to make out of my concepts. I wish I had some final shots to show.
Anyway, from what I've understood, the movie takes place in a twisted "real world" but I was hired to design a special sequence in the movie were the characters ends up in a different version of reality. The stuff that happens in this sequence sort of happens in the real world, but with a natural enviroment, ...something like this I think
The world I made were suppose to be dark, very black, everything built up with dark materials. It's suppose to be simplistic, clean and abstract. The drawings were painted to illustrate certain events that happens. I was only allowed to use grey and some red.

I also did a couple of Matte paintings for this movie. First time I did that, and the last for that matter. I found out that my patience isn't suited for matte paintings, SO much work and so little you see. .. phew ! and I don't feel I'm good at it either. . . .so I will definately stay away from that in the future, hehe.

Anyway, I hope you like these concepts....

    Nice stuff.
The woman looks like those bad females (don´t remind their names, something like "dark mistress") from the pc-game dungeonkeeper. Is that intentional?
Edit: And when i look longer on them they remind me very much of the movie "Tron"

Very nice work, I really like the moods created with the restrictive palette.
And yes, like Ernie82, I was reminded of "The Mistress" from Dungeon Keeper 2.

Very cool! Always enjoy your work. One of my friends is an actor who worked on "Storm" but I haven´t seen it yet. People say it´s good though.

Cool, I love the building/architecture/robot arm thing, etc. I am not so keen on the people though, they look abit smudgy or something.

Oh, now I really gotta see this movie....
A movie made in sweden not about some grumpy swedish policeman... thats a revolution.... (I can see why they are making those, the only time the swedish police solves a crime is in the movies ;( ).

Great concepts! Mmh and a norwegian snatched it ....

good looking concepts! I also would like to see that matte painting. I'm downloading the trailer now (linked from the imdb article), hopefully one of your scenes is in it.

edit: the movie looks pretty cool, I'll have to keep an eye out for a north american release. there was one quick shot a red-haired woman walking through a dark grey hallway and another one of her flipping through the air. I'm guessing those were in the alternate reality your helped design.

Ernie82, thx. . . yeah when you mention it, her costume is similar I didn't design the characters though.

dcept, takker. . . her i norge, aner ikke har faktisk ikke sjekket. Burde jo se den selv også

mop, thank you. Hehe, yes you are right aswell about the girls costume

Beastmaster fred, takkar Really. I noticed that it's pretty popular in sweeden (?)

cique, thanks. Yes they are. but as I made enviroment concept, the people are there only to give the scale and impression on how it looks with characters. I never really focused on them, it would have been a waste of my clients money. If you see what I mean.

gallon, hehe I'm very curios how a swedish sci-fi can turn out. ...You are good at policework in movies though...I love Wallander.

tensai, thanks man. I will see if I can dig up some.

biscuitninja, thanks. I will contact the effects company and see what they can give me of shots.

bwkeough, thanks ! Uhm below is one of the mattes. About the trailer, yes you are right, I think that's the only thing they showed for that scene in the trailers, I think the scene was part of was done pretty late, so thats probably all they had by the time they did the trailers.

    joshuathejames, thanks mister.

thirdeye, thank you. THey aren't that big about 3000 pixels wide.

dakardur, thanks. hehe, well, I think the biggest percentage of good films comes from USA. But, I'm a sucker for highbudget action movies of simple plots. Makes my brain relax

mortem, blujackal, now you should be able to.

    chris, I have

Hey the links should be back now, they are a bit smaller, but I won't bother uploading larger pics as they are sketches anyway

Ok here are 1 of the matte paintings I did (caugh)
This is for the scene with the factory you see on the concept. I did it in grey as they wanted it this way, I think I did a version with some red lightings which was the final, but suddenly I can't find it. I used some references, some textures, but mostly just pain in the ass photoshop painting. The sky is just gradient because the clouds I think was made in 3d, they were suppose to move fast inward ( atleast from how I wanted it to be when I concepted it, but I'm not sure they did that) ....

here's a small thumb of the full (as most of the screen was the factory no point showing it in big I guess)...

And here's a closup of the detailed area ( it's painted in layers so it can have some minor parallax movement)
