Here's an old man/wizard type character that I drew, pretty simple, no reference.

More drawings....

I contemplated giving him a really cool guitar like a Warlock, but I settled for an acoustic.

Another drawing done for fun.

Life studies from a weekly session.
i like the one of the girl holding the torch, a real sense of the wind blowing the flame and her hair.
Karma: Thanks, I've never really used my eraser to achieve light. I often find myself adding shadows onto my images by making things darker, but hardly do I erase to achieve lighter areas.
Here's another loose sketch I've done recently. No reference, as you can probably tell, just tried to make out the pose as best as possible. I think that when you draw light enough, you can somewhat sculpt the figure with loose lines and values. Anyway, here's the sketch.

I actually thought about doing a story for an anthology with this character, only cooler, and younger looking, and drawn better...

Here is the process of how my drawings come along, mostly light sketching and a ton of erasing and redrawing, takes me a while to get the anatomy to a point where I'm happy since I don't use reference a lot of times.

Your life drawings are good.
I really like the action in your April 15 drawing. It's a good idea to draw something like that from your mind to get a creative idea going. Then try to pose yourself or a friend for a photo doing the same thing. Then you can do the same picture combining refference and imagination. The results will be better than either refference or imagination alone.
Thanks for the tip Gilead. I tend to use reference only rarely, I seem to learn more when I am using my mind by itself. I think when you have to create something from nothing, you have to pay attention more, you can feel the curves better, the overlapping, the angles. When I copy a picture, I am only thinking about spaces and values, not really structure. I have never tried the method you mentioned though, I'll give it some thought, it sounds like a good way to correct yourself.

Here's a quick study I did this morning. I am really struggling trying to find a way to color my images. I am searching for a way to color pencilled graphite images, either digitally or traditionally. Everything I've tried keeps coming out really bad and bland. Any suggestions?

yo this stuff is excellent. you seem to have an awesome grasp of anatomy.
i will be following this thread!
take it easy.
A lot of the images seem to be gone, But I like the shading you got going on here. I enjoy the color ones too, very solid, esspicially that recent protrait of the woman, very nice. You might want to add a little more color variation on the flash tones though..... Keep posting!!
