Hey, I was wondering what you'd been up to! So you moved to SF? That's great, I bet you'll just blossom there. Couldn't take being a taxi driver anymore I guess? That url doesn't work by the way, it gives me a 403 Forbidden error.

Yeah, the taxi driving job wasn't too bad, but it was too easy to not do artwork while I was doing it, who feels like drawing after a 10-14 hour shift right? Fixed the link.

As for the last sketch, looks like the ear is coming out of the cheek? Needs more time on the lines first I think.

Thanks Aph, good point about the ear, wasn't paying attention.
Mentler, thanks a lot man, getting figure praise from you made my day.
Just got done with digital figure drawing, crazy stuff. Took me a bit to do anything with it. I think these poses are 5, 10.20 and an hour. Half the time was me trying to figure out how to open new files, make the background grey, etc., so next time hopefully they'll come out better.

Heh, thanks Jska, having a lot of fun out here. It seems like the more I work, the less time I have to scan, so here's another life digi. To see what this model actually looks like, check out Nonie's or Marc Taro's versions, they kick ass.

Man, that last digital painting is sweet! Dig the lighting. I assume you're doing these on a laptop? How do you correct your color? Mine washes out everything so I end up making every color too intense to make up for it. I don't see it when I'm painting, then I put it on a crt...

Also, you going to school or something down there or just going to drawing sessions?

    Thanks Kiel,
I don't know about the laptop thing. Try to find one with an sxga monitor, as it's supposed to be true color. Also,, I'm finding out just how desaturated most good work really is, subtle shades=awesome colors. Trying to learn it.
More digital figure, 1 hr study. Did quicker ones too, but they all turned out like crap i.e. the feet in this one.

Cool figure studies man, I read your comment on how good desaturated colors look, same here! just remember that where there is a lack of color, value takes it's place. Strong and correct value will make any image stronger and more 'moody'. The girl with the big hoola hoop thing is great, great values. On your latest one it's a bit on the greyish side. Try to start very dark and work up from there, you can always go lighter if need be. Great works though.

"Hello, is it me your looking for?" are lyrics, and possibly the title, to a crappy Lionel Richie song, I quoted it as a joke.
Paintings look okay, I can't really critique them, don't know much about it. I suppose it might benifit them to have more abrupt planar gradations in order to simpify shapes, paying more attention to edge quality.

Fish- Thanks man, still trying to improve. Lots of cool people to draw with out here in CA, so it's a lot of fun.

Mitchell- Thanks man, yeah was going to throw a contrast adjust over it, then just decided to post how I actually painted it. Definitely need to concentrate on light dark differentiation.

Armando- Ah, a song, I was all like 'WTF, mate?' cool, will try what you said, but that's a tough one, simplified planes with edge control is hard shite.

had access to a scanner, so sketches up, lots o' sitting around on buses, de young a bit, cherry blossom festival, stuff like that. Found a good coffee shop to sketch at as well.
