Here are some sketches of the band Gov't Mule, my friend came over last night, said lets draw, then we decided to draw the band. The shapes below Warren Haynes are me explaining the measuring of main shapes to him, because he was effing it up. Managed to scrub a hole through Andy Hess's face because the smudge would just not come off.

I was in Europe for a while, and I kept a sketch journal, so here's some of that. 3X5", so these are about actual size.
Michelangelo

The castle above Assisi
A building by a garden in Belfast
The Rock of Cashel
Two towns of Cinque Terra
Piensa, trying a pantone marker
Pompei
My favorite of Michelangelo's slaves
Spoleto acqueduct, 97m!

Communist Statue
The entrance to the communist statue park
The train station of Castiglion Fiorentino
Here's class work from last semester. Something similar to what they did in The Skillful Huntsman. Went to Italy and had to illustrate an Italian folk tale called 'The Seven Headed Dragon.' So I did a similar process. Need to photo the finished pieces, too big for the scanner.
based on the silhouette
Final version, based off head on previous pic, but it looked too anime, so used the head to the left, and put a little more muscle on him for final work.
Done in my Italian language class, multitasking
generic, but only needed a back view for my final piece
value study, but used other character in final
Portraits of classmates for class, Ink and gouache off photo refs
Off-hand quick value study
fun with pantones
coolest art history teacher I ever had. More like an old Italian art philosopher
Drypoint print from my room in Castiglion Fiorentino
Your color pencil and watercolor piece are FAR supperior to your pencil and pen ones. You have a good eye for color I think, or maybe just more experience in the medium. Although, I must say, the pencil horse head is quite good. Keep at it, I suppose I should say do more pencils because that is what you need more practice in. But, I want to see more of your color pencil or watercolor works.
Here's my finals for that project, learned a lot, but need to get better. Pencil horse head was after Frazetta, so can't take credit for that. The rest were just quick concept sketches, to get ideas and compositions rolling around. Eazym, thanks for the input, I like crits. I'll put up some better pencil sketches when I have time.
These were done with ink washes, Ruler pens, and gouache.

Went to the Montreal Workshop, met a lot of kickass people. Seriously people, if you want to be inspired, check out the workshops. Damn, way too much fun. So I'm posting my sketches from Montreal.
First night drawing
Second night drawing in the hostel with the Auberge Alternative crew
They told me to draw a bear, I got pissed cuz I couldn't do it without reference. Then I designed this.
Carnifex modeled and I got a quick five minute sketch of him
I had a Tria marker and tried some rendering
The Tria marker soaked through, and I randomly came up with this to cover the marks
More Tria marker
Drew this sitting behind DSIllustrations and beside Mr. Visions. Those guys were cranking out some good paintings.
Marko and Wes inspired everyone to draw up some characters
My TDome entry, a girl I didn't know, but she let me draw her
Andrew made sweet ass tattoos all over the models, screwed up the legs, but had fun with the colors

w00t, I love those colored pencils. I've never tried out mine on brown paper, but after seeing some of yours, I really want to give it a shot. You've got a nice wide variety of traditional work thats really fun to look through. Looking forward to seeing you keep up this sketchbook![]()
I decided my princess character design sucked, so I took one of my thumbs, blew it up, and photoshopped back into it. Original thumb is on the right. If anyone has good lighting/value crits let me know, as anything I learn helps out.

Cool stuff. I like the pen enviro studies. Keep it up.
Great stuff. Show us more![]()
Very nice sketchwork. Some of the stuff not from reference lets the bar down a little though. The boy with sword looks like he has rubber legs. Also (this is a bias of mine) the horse 5 pics down from that has odd legs with joints in strange places. Extremely good potential though, especially when taking your sketches into account. Hope to see more!
Update, Decided I needed to work on figure basics, line quality not so good, but I was focusing on other things (lame excuse). So some Loomis, and a random sketch. I'll work on my horse anatomy and use more references, and try to just all around improve I guess. Thanks for the input.
I guess this is a zombie, was just letting my mind wander with this one

Hahaha, Photobucket pulled the loomis woman study because of nudity or some such shit. That is retarded. Luckily CA can host some of these pics. Anyway, update with more Loomis studies. Got to get those basics down. I'll draw some real stuff soon.

Nice work. Keep going. Be mindful of your line quality.
Yes, Page 2, Finally.(at least with my settings)
I'll work on line quality. Figure I'll post every time I get three images together. More Loomis studies, building structure on the frames. Worked on an idea I had, more just screwing around than actually trying to learn. And a WIP of a CH.O.W. I'm doing. The Chow is looking pretty screwy, so it'll probably change a lot before I finish.

It looks as though you spent some time in Italy and having been there once upon a time, I really enjoyed looking at those sketches. Wonderful place, isn't it? I liked the bridge painting too, it's a nice, tight and compacted view that works for me.
cool stuff, keep going![]()
Its good to see you studying anatomy and i really love that armored dude in the last post. Keep studying.
Finished up my chow. May work on it more if I learn a lot to make it worth reworking. I would also appreciate crits so I can get better and or work them into this.

Sweet CHOW. It made me go "WTF?" And then, "That's Awesome!" His right shoulder is a little confusing, i'm not sure whats going on under the shirt there. Also, his left thumb could use a little more definition, it kinda blends in with the rest of the hand. Keep rocking.
Thanks for the crits man. I'll see what I can do with them.

Hey, just wanted to say I liked your CHOW entry a lot, something about it jumps out at me. I think it's the direct and painterly approach.. apart from the cool concept of course.
There's a few anatomical things you could tweak & refine, the face & arms could use a little more detail, but overall I think it's pretty nice man. If you want to keep it nice and chunky with that visceral feeling try to direct the focus of the viewer by cleaning up some areas and leaving others more textured. Like: the pants for instance, the outline shape is very all over the place which draws attention to it. Since it's not necessarily the focus you could edit some of that out, etc.
Can't wait to see more!
Man, I have to say that I'd love to see something constructed as tightly and sweet as some of your pencils, rendered in the painterly and loose style of your chow. I think that when you reach that balance it's gonna be THE shit.
Keep posting mate, there are some fantastic pieces in here.
