wow, that's a really cool idea for the chow-- one thing I think will help the image is more atmospheric perspective to give you more depth and a sense of scale. To me it reads as a very small moon very close, and i think it would feel better as a massive object far away... keep it up!!

I like. I'd lighten up the sky in the bg a bit to up the contrast, but otherwise it's looking good.

anothe DSG, just trying to get more speed and control digitally. Probably should work on finishing more though, that'll help the sketching too.

I like it. You used some smaller-than-necesarry brushes in some places, which makes it fit together a little less well. Keep up the regular updates.

Nice quickies. Composition on the blueish one is great, and I love the toad thing.
I agree with fish, some scribbles look too random, specially in the skies and in the road (in the toad pic). I think the problem is not exactly the little scribbles themselves, but the value chaos produced by the stroke overlapping.
Anyway, fantastic progress so far. Keep at it!

Some interesting concepts. You have a good sense of color but I think you should either loosen or tighten your application (of paint especially). Good work. Keep posting.

Thanks for the crits. I'll try to work on those things in the future, that's what I love about the quickies, no time to polish away your mistakes, so everyone can see what you need work on. Did some paintings, guess they're not really sketches, but I figure this is the best place to post work. One is a portrait I've been working on in my painting class. The other one was a sp to kill time and screw around with colors.

Mmmm, nice. Makes me wanna paint with oils. Lighting in the first one is awesome, and the funky colors on the second one are just lovely, very Cézanne.
Just post what you want here.

Those two face paintings are pretty awsome (can't crit man, sorry).

The toad one is a really cool idea, however the placement of the horizon really kills the scale of things for me. Maybe push it back a bit (lowering it) and sticking some repeating shapes or other scale pushing objects to give it that epic feel?

Heh, fedezz wows us all. I think this one lacks the defined brush strokes of your other oil paints, it looks kinda... mushy. I know you were probably following the photo, but some of the anatomy looks a little weak too, like the shoulders/pectorals.

I think the moral of the story is life ftw! Keep cranking out these paintings, i'm enjoying it

thanks for the crits. The anatomy may look off because she's a chick... not really sure if that's what you mean by pectorals. All these are from life, don't learn much from photos. Colors on the painting don't photograph right is what I meant. And I'll work on drawing better next time I guess. I'll see if I can get a better photo in the daylight.

    sup.
the last portrait is good except the chest but you know whats wrong with that.

And the last one is cool too although you shoud make the fence post get smaller as they get further away and and some more deatail /leaves to the trees.

    keep it up james.

Ooh, great enviro. You might try exaggerating the perspective a little to make the closer couple of fence posts a little bigger and the mountains/furthest trees a little more faded and blue. I really like it, looks like a beautiful place

    Keep up the drawing/painting.

Oh, and good job reminding everyone to update, i thought i was the only one that was ever going to do that

Hey, I think being fast is very overrated in these forums. Really, I don't think that's a big deal. In fact, I'm very slow painting. Me taking 30 minutes to paint something was pure luck, and not fast at all if you consider that I spent about an hour and a half noodling paint around on some crappy piece (same tiny size) before that I think that last portrait looks great, and I bet it looks even better in person. Apart from the chest issue already discussed, the lips could use a touch up, they look kinda flat and the diving line is a tad too dark.
The plein air looks good, I love how the underpainting shows thru. Perhaps the cloud area is the weakest point, the strokes look too regular, and not as well placed as in the rest of the piece, in that area.
And totally off topic, we had a visit from a designer/teacher at the Colorado State University in our school a couple of weeks ago. His name is Phil Risbeck. I've just noticed your location, so I thought it was a cool thing to mention.
    See ya.

Damn, you handled that tricky angle just great. That slightly twisted-inwards profile is always a tough bone to chew (bah, at least for me ) Hatching looks good too, specially tight in the neck and face areas.
    And yep, scribbles are cool...
