Thanks armando for checking out my sketch book

Here is a link to the composition tutorial i found on the web very basic but just what i needed
    http://www.wetcanvas.com/Articles2/135/120/

The Video Tutorial i got free with Imaginefx mag. They have downloads on there site so maybe you can download it from there.

Two new pics for the same thing Art Crusades battle 5 (Dark abominations - Battle at The Horrors)

They are both off topic but i think the second one looks better and was quicker to do. I thought a lot more about composition and worked all of it up from a rough rather starting at one corner and rendering it.

There is still some problems with this pic but i want to move on.

Two more Daily sketches a bit rough this time around.
I concentrated on the robot soon as i got to the buildings, i was over my head.
Think if i have to do a city scene again i will have to draw it out first in pencil Makes things easier for me.

Another daily drawoff i spend a lot more time on this. But lost interest in it. Still might finish it..........sometime.

I have been having to much fun on the daily draw offs i neglect any studies.
The womens head i am not happy with she looks mongoloide. It is really hard to do a female head the slightest change can make her ugly.

and two torso studies which i really needed to do as i get lost on that particular part of the body as well as all the back
and legs and feet and hands and head placements think that is it.

It has been quite a while since the last time I visited here, and your work is definitely getting better! Those imagining paintings look nice, but as you figured, I think you need more studies from life. And the latest study is great, though the skin tone seem a bit off, that might because of the photos you used.
    Keep it up.

Thanks UnSharpened. I wasn't worried about the skin colour i was going more for the shadows and shapes.

Some more sketches pretty poor scans i think my scanner might be on its last legs.

4 quick sketches and one more finished piece.

Another two ref pics Landscape and Women. I not so sure there is any benefit in painting these. I think i might give the full ref pics a miss in future except maybe for one more as i like the colours in it.

I cheated and picked some of the colours from the original. It is so hard not to do when just one click next to you and you have the right tone.

this was a lose sketch that i tighten up thats why there is perspective problems.

Lesson even with loose pics sort your perspective out as once you start to build it up it is too late.

My teacher at the atelier told me to never ever draw without reference.

Even Bouguereau used photo reference, no one has a perfect memory - you can guesstimate a little but I feel everyone at least needs a partial photo to copy from if they don't have a model handy.

IF you are trying to draw realistically...

And why would you waste your own time drawing from memory, there's no point in it really unless you're in a hurry and need to get an idea out quick - definately not for a finished piece!

Yet my opinions are my own, do what you like.

I saw a lot of improvement over time in this sketchbook but I particularily like your original ideas and think they are much stronger than your model pics.

Also here's a not so random thought:

    Cityscapes...bigger....more epic....generalize...epic landscapes...

terrifying creatures (more than just headshots!) massive! cinema panels!

Being quite for the last week. This is from the film in bruges. If you are going to draw from video make sure you don't pick a moving pan shot as the perspective gets all messed up and make sure the pic is clear i had to make over half this up as i could not make out what was happening.

    Thanks Vulgar for checking in.

This is another attemp at landscapes. There is some nice bits in it and not so nice bits. It is a bit empty no real focal point, it was just for practice. But i think it is still a improvement so i am happy with it.

another pretty forgettable DSg by me.

You killed the topic on the second - excellent choice of perspective and color saturation.

Definitely some fun stuff goin on here. And really nice progress as well.
Composition should be the focus since your rendering skills are tight. Those last two dino pieces are sharp, but the point of focus is difficult to discern. Perhaps with the colors and variation in rendering this could be solved.
    I dig your imagination.

You're starting to really get into the flow of the daily sketches and weekly activites, but you're not pushing them as far as I think you would like. Think bigger, faster, epic, brighter colours, darker darks,

    Think bigger.

    Thanks res01ve and Smoke.

Going to start to mess around and do a few of my own pics take all the time i want and pick a subject that i want to do. But till then here is another DSG that i cleaned up and finished.

Ok my own stuff i will try a painting a day for the next 20 days no polishing off spending hours on rendering just quick pics of what ever comes to mind. No matter how crap i will post them.

He needs another wing on the other side. But i can not go back over it. I would be breaking my ill thought up rules i just made up.

These are the pics i never posted as they irritated me for some reason. I am not sure that it is good idea to just post the pics i am happy with as it gives a skewed impression of my sketchbook.

    Wow!
You have some really great stuff going on in here. Really clean and punchy colors. That is where your strengths seems to be. Your pencil work does not seem to have the same value range as the colored stuff. Great improvement from start to last few posts. Glad I stopped in.

good stuff. so did you like in bruges? i liked when he karate chopped the racist dwarf in the neck.

on an artistic note, mostly everything is looking amazing. some of the human figures are a little off though. if you want to be able to pull a good pose from your imagination, i would suggest that you keep working from reference to get more familiar with the human form.

oh and one last thing; i really like the idea of drawing boxers. they are always in some sort of action stance and they are in shape so it's easy to see where the muscles are, as well as how they work. keep up the good work.
