    BUZZZ II - Jan 12 oils/ acrylics / pencil

    Hi guys,
Switched DSL-providers recently and I didn't want to update all the links in my old sketchbook so I'm starting a new one.
My old pictures are archived here
    if anyone is interested.

Van has inspired me to start trying out oils so I'm doing those at the moment.
I like them very much so you'll probable see more oils coming in the near future.

    Cheers!

the child misses the contrast... it's too pale... But the expresion is great!

Great to see a a fresh book Buzzz! Love the face!
It would be nice to see a little more contrast in the child painting, but I actually quite like it the way it is!

Great start in your new sketchbook!
The indian girl looks so vivid and her accessoires and eyes are beautifully painted. As far as the low contrast in the second picture I have to concede the others, though. The sky and the atmosphere are very nice instead...

I see, I have to try oils, too. If only the equipment wasn't so expensive...

Well, I'd say the try-out is a success. They are both really nice. How much time did you spend on those?

    Foxoo: Thanks!

Icey: Thanks, I wanted to keep a muted palette in this one, that why the colors are like that.

Erilaz: Hey thanks! Photo flattens the colors a bit

gizmodus: Thanks!. About the equipment, it shouldn't have to be very expensive, I use hoghair brushes for most of my work, and for the paint you can start with a limited palette and expand your colors as you like later.
For me it is a lot more satisfying to finish a traditional painting compared to a digital one.

crazy3dman: Thanks. Hard to say how long since I worked on and off on them. Wild guess would be about 16 hours each.

dCepT: Always good to see your comments!

That fat kid: Hey thanks man, more will come

    Lighting on that tiger rawks!

Small crit on the kid... the transfer from her ear to her cheek is a bit harsh... looks like the ear is loose and glued on (not really but you get the idea..hehe... ) Just a little bit of a smoother transfer would kick ass...

    Awesome stuff all round, bro!

    Keep 'em coming!

Asoir, Ganbat-Bad, T-Raktor: Thanks guys. Much appreciated.

dCepT: Thanks. You have a point there with the ear. I checked the ref photo and it has a small edge there too but the transition is a bit smoother.
Can't do much about it anymore since it has to be varnished this weekend.

2 steps from a WIP that is going to be on the wall in our livingroom.
80x60cm, acrylics for the first steps and now I'm painting over in oils.

Sorry for the lightdifferences (first one taken with artificial light)

I like the last one. However you can see to much of the underpainting. The dog looks transparent.

Nice painting of a dog! I like the way you left the detail and strongest highlights for the head!

Hey, a fellow oil painter! Cool. You've made a lot of progress between those first paintings and your sideways tiger.

I recommend that you start working from sources other than photographs, especially when you did not take those photographs yourself. You are good enough with the paints that you don't need to rely on photos so heavily.
I think you are awesome, and I wish you the best in your endeavors, but I am tired of repeating myself, I am very busy with my new baby, and I am no longer a regular participant here, so please do not contact me to ask for advice on your career or education. All of the advice that I have to offer can already be found in the following links. Thank you.

Nice paintings. Good color. You probably shouldn't rely so much on photos.

There’s a problem with making direct copies of photos, though. Unless you take the photo, you do not own the rights to it, which means you aren’t permitted to make money selling paintings that are copies of other peoples’ photos unless you have their permission to do so. So, when it comes to painting tigers and profiting from it, a painter has two choices: he can learn to paint tigers primarily from imagination, or he can take his own photos.
