Excersizes are lookin good Now do more Your paintings look rather vague though. The texture studies are good, now just apply them, man. It would be cool to see more crisper paintings in here, maybe some color stuff (I apologize if this is coming out of my ass and you have in fact done some on earlier pages, i didn't go through all 9 of them).

DanielC- Thanks! (Still have to get used to your new name!)

Sepulverture- Thanks, and your right in that I should do a more finished piece. Soon!

Really pressed for time today, so All I had time to do was get down the perspective for the sketchling project. Studies and such hopefully tomorrow.

    j a k e- Thanks a lot man!

    Listing- Thanks!

    Man, shoddy updates lately, huh?
1- House outside my window from life. Almost finished with the trees, just the base for the house. Kinda got some subliminal Idiot Apathy going on in the trees.
2- Teen challenge 18 sketch. Feeling like experimenting on this one, so I'm going to mess around with some panels. Started out as a base image with four little panels on the top and bottom, turned into this monstrosity. Maybe I'll check up on Scott Mcloud for some examples. You can't really tell what's going on at this stage, but don't worry.

Inspiring progress here joe. I love the variety in your method of study, and the variety of subjects you draw. Keep that variety. Two things: In most of your colored stuff the saturation is way too high. When you look around in real life you understand colors to be reds and blues, but often if you actually look they are browns and greys because of lighting and what they are surrounded by. So there's the overused but underapplied phrase "draw what you see, not what you think you see".

Also always remember to draw from life so that you can practice what you learn from books, and draw from you imagination to remember it. I see you doing this a little, but there are far more reffed studies than life studies in here, try to improve that.

I enjoyed looking through your journey, keep it regular and keep trying new things, i look forward to your progress from here

DanC- Thanks man! Bridgeman coming soon!

Fishspawn- Thanks! Understand what you mean about the saturation. Thanks for reminding me aout life drawing too! Been slacking in that department.

Okay, I'm going to have to do some serious schedule management soon. I could easily double or even triple the amount of time I spend drawing and suffer no consequence. Step one, get the fuck off the computer and draw.

Today, quick life drawing of my bed.

As I've stated before, I don't feel like I'm drawing as much as I could. Going to keep trying!

Today- SPs, and some more work on the Teen Challenge, but not enough to post.

Weather here is crap. I haven't seen the sun in nearly two days, hooray!
But the art goes on regardless!

Today- Bridgeman arms and another SP with some space-ship doodles in the corner. Perhaps I will start an SPOD? No promises yet though.

    Looking very good.
Don't stop the sp's and studies.
I personally decided to do one a day =)
Also, you might want to start using lineweight.
Making the contours that are in the darks actually darker.

cool sketch book. Really enjoyed reading it. Awesome improvement & loads of dedication.

Have you considered doing a value study sp without lines? Tone some paper with charcoal or graphite to a mid tone, then look for the shape of the shadow & darken it slowly. Once you've got the shadows in, use a putty erasor to put in the highlights. Then contine refining the shapes... not something i'd do every time but it might help.

    DanielC- Thanks, good advice man!

    BlackGuy- Thanks for stopping by!

term8or- Sounded like fun, so I tried it out! Thanks!

Missed another day. Two options, keep trying to optimize my time, or just realize that there's not enough time in my schedule for me to draw as much as I want. I'm going to stick to number one, since I feel like I spend a lot of my time doing nothing.

Anyway- Bridgeman arms and a half-done SP.
The SP was really fun so far. Tomorrow I'll clean it all up and fix some of the errors I'm seeing now -(Mouth/chin too far down, ugly eyes/lips, brow line off a bit.)

Glad to see you are still cranking out sb works <> always think about the form underneath when you are rendering... the light on the cheek is not following the structure of the bone....

You never get tired of those studies do you? It's so great to see your dedication in this, makes me ashamed of my own work ethics. I can't crit anything on those bridgeman arms, but about your sp's, are you afraid of ears? You always wear headphones, you see... just wondering, 's all...

mentler- Thanks for dropping by, good advice too. Love those paintings!

Serp- Nope! Well, yes, I just don't have much else to do.As to the ears, I just always listen to music when I draw, and i find the big heapphones most comfortable. I should probably take them off occasionally for SP's though.

Sketch from imagination and some crap life sketches. Sould get some stuff done for the sketchlings soon.

EDIT- 10-24-06- Just finished a MASSIVE comment binge. Update pusshed back a day 'cause I don't feel like scanning anymore.

    oma- Thanks for the encouragement!

I'm going to try to comment more. Skethbooks, critique center, sketches/wips, whatever. It's about time i start giving back to such a wonderful community.

Anyway- More sketchling work, and some gesture SP's. Trying to get as much down as I can as fast as I can. Hopefully doing a bunch of these will speed me up a bit and improve my longer studies.

DanC- Thanks! Yeah, lots of stupid mistakes on those. They were more messing around with colors than anatomy studies, but i should never slack off.

Today- Started an new SP, about 1/2 done. Definately some DanielC (previously Recursive_End) influence in this one.

Today- Went into PS and prettied up some sketches from school that I liked. Scarves are fun!
