no cheesy name for me... King's sketches

Hello all, I realize maybe it's time after scouring these sketchbooks to finally start my own and get feedback and improve. Please be critical and as mean as possible with my art.

Here's my first post: my attempt and failure at producing 100 female head studies.

nice heads! actually i like the ones labelled "fails" more than the others, because they're more varied. the other ones sort of look alike to me.

it's a good start, and you've certainly got some nice technique going in terms of values and lines. my advice would be to keep drawing as much as you can, and vary your subjects as much as you can

Nice animal studies! I enjoy the variety, but it might help you (for learning's sake!) if you focus on one kind of animal at a time or do a bunch of different studies of each kind of animal rather than only one each of many different species. The more you draw something, the more you can commit it to your memory, so it will be easier to build up that information the more you can repeat it!

I also happen to like the 'failed' ones. It's more the negative attitude towards failure, thats demotivating.
Don't focus to much on the fact you failed, but focus on what you have learned from doing it. This will help you improve more.

    I hope it helps.

Good start to your SB. Your studies are coming along nicely. Now all you have to do is keep going.

Thanks for the comments. I guess the reason why those were "bad" was because my unfamiliarity with the shapes, and im glad you all like them more. More reason to bash my head against them.

I do notice that I am hard on myself sometimes, but don't put effort into fixing. Hopefully here's to a good, a much needed, renewed start!

    I will keep cranking!!!

Here's a few 20 min color studies of hot springs this morning!

    Your sketches are 10s.
For your last painting, you don't have to make the eyes so white.
Try to give them a color closer to the skin tone.

    Peace
    Manuel

ketoprak - Thanks. I'm trying to get better, and really trying to figure out how to use the knowledge instead of getting better at copying.
