Valkyrie

Hello

Well, it is the first time that I post on this forum. Actually, I learned to draw on my own, and I would like to know what I need to improve.

Here is a drawing I made some time ago, with a ball point pen. Comments are welcome

Looks very good to me. The right side of her face looks a bit flat though. Perhaps some more variations in value in the dress would look nicer. Good work!

What comes first to my mind is the light. You don´t seem to have defined a single light sorce, but light everything in a "plastic" way. Pretty much like the old masters did. Have a look at the way the light works in most Michelangelo painting and you´ll get the idea I guess.
So why don´t you choose a single - or two - light sorces and think about which parts would get light, which whould create shadow and whoch parts would receive a shadow from other parts. It´s a simple way to get more realistic pics.

Hope it helps

Well, actually I wanted to create a sort of contrast between the "whiteness" of the skin and the rest...but it is possible that it did not work
As for the light, I confess I did not considered it as essential for this drawing ^^. I focused on details, such as the folds of the dress etc...
But I will think about it (I suppose adding a source of light such as a candle can help)

Thank for your constructive comments

If you want an attention drawing contrast between the lightness of the skin and the rest, i suggest you darken the dress just a little bit. And make the background darker.

it looks pretty good, the right side of the face looks a little bit of and the head looks short (the top part, above the eyebrows) that aside it's a nice piece of work. Johnny78 made some good points about pov and lighting.

neet illustration effect. reminds me of some of the books i read when i was a kid. dig the contrasts and love the detail. she is a little flat, but hey, like i said, great illustration effect.

cheers,

Woodruff
