whoa. . .you've got an excellent sense of light. . .really enjoying the second, third, and broad-head. The only suggestion I might have would be to aim for a cleaner line quality; some of them, like the first multiple sketchbook page, are really kind of rough. . .rough line aren't necessarily a bad thing, as a long as they don't interfere with the image, as I think is happening here.

. . .damn dude, every time I scroll through I find something else I like. Awesome!

Polonoid- Thank you very much. Im still working on him, he is suppose to be a crippled civil war vet hence the weird leg braces you barely see on him. And he hunts werewolves; i make up weird stories. Im going to post some more ink stuff next week.

jkior- I agree. my biggest enemy is line quality and I don't know why I never go back and clean it up. I think its because i lack confidence in my strokes. And by the way I cant take full credit for the broad headed picture. I referenced it from a drawing book which i cant name off the top of my head right now. Im using graphite sticks and the powder alot for my drawings now(like that one). Fun stuff but messy as hell.

As people already have said, your secound piece is probably one of your best. But I think you shouln't render the legs out. Sometimes it gives more style and character to leave a drawing partly unfinished.
One of your last drawings with the girl, the left breast looks funky.
Owerall this is good work and i have to agree, graphite powder is messy, but it is so easy to make a quick sky with it with so little effort.

k this one is I just did literally 2 minutes ago. I was looking at my Seven Samurai DVD Cover and was inspired to draw. I was kinda intimidaded and discouraged because i couldnt find an eraser for the life of me so I was like fuck it and drew without one. It proved quite intresting as i found myself working my mistakes in with the drawing. Felt quite liberating, and im going to start drawing without erasures as a practice method in the future now.

I used the dvd cover for a reference and didn't want to copy exactly, i just picked things that i liked here and there and used them. This is about 5 minutes worth of work and I stopped right there because i feel that its going to turn out good so until i find my damn erasure im done.

No your line qualety is contibuting to the picture. Gives it a sort of electric feel. The shading arounf the shin area gives the immpression of a dent, not that the skin smoothley curves under the chin bone. Overall a good skecht.

nice pirate there. Soften the edge on the sail and paint a quick bg in to suggest a sky. Overall a good start here. Keep it simple and try not to use alot of strokes while you're learning so you'll have a good idea of forms (something I'm still working on). When I don't know how to go about rendering something, sometimes I would do random strokes all over the place while squinting hahaa, very bad habit of mine.

I like your anatomy work. I often draw with a red or blue non photo pencil and they don't erase well at all. So, i finally stopped trying and when i draw with those i just don't use an eraser. It is quite liberating.

Heres a sketch i did tonight, not done yet. Im going to do a full sketch, then transfer it on some a4 illustration board for an ink job.

I also went ahead to do a few test colors in photochop for how the wash will go.

dude, that pencil is soo nice! Its inspired me to grab my pencil and do a more finished drawing, rather than just digi's. The one thing is that i never skan my pencil stuff. too lazy.

The how thing looks proportional to me, mabey the head might be slightly too small, but not enuf for the average person to notice. The hands are excellent. and i would personally go with the cooler wash. but id say that depends on wat u intend to tell with the picture. cant wait to see the ink, keep up the hard work.

thanks obx. Yes i think its time i got away from the computer and these addicting forums. If you're curious I usually use 4h,2h, and 9b in my morely finished drawings, and sometimes some graphite sticks. You know my heads usually tend to be small but i think its right in this one. Usually its about 3 1/2 to 4 head lengths till u get to the crotch.

I really like both of the colors, but im going to go with the first one. Because Im going to be using some cooler colors for the character that i think will really go well with the first one. Plus i think the red blood on the wings will really stick out nice. Hehe too bad this wasnt a real wash.

Yay!! Ink work! I can't wait to see that. Question: If your going to color the character with cool colors wouldn't you want to go with the warmer pic at bottom to help him pop of the page more?

yeah i wasnt checking the head size in comparison to the body, just becos the body didnt seem like the dominant form in the drawing. I was actually useing the arm as a comparision, and i thought that it was like 1 and 1/2 head lengths from the shoulder to the elbow. but watever, it was just the first thing that i saw, and i dont feel that its a major issue in the drawing. so dont let my crits bother u at all. even i can learn something if my critiq is shown to be false, then i know im making a mistake while drawing myself.

o and definatly keep the legs in the lunging stance. it will give the dude a little more balance, coz i mean he's hoisting out this huge sword, so it might weigh him down a bit. the other stance that u painted in in the wash makes him look like he's gonna fall over.

lol yeah thats good that u use different pencil hardnesses, i mostly use a mech hb pencil and i dont get the high contrast punch that u might get while using a wide range of hardnesses.

how big is that drawing... roughly? i tend to draw quite small (usually half a piece of printer paper is enuf to fit one of my drawings) , and am trying to break this habbit. not that this is horribly bad, but if i want to be successful i need to be able to work with diffent canvas sizes.

well hope to see more soon.

The 2nd wash is definitely better. The proportion is actually 1 1/2 head w/o the elbow. So leave out a bit for the elbow. By that standard your proportion looks pretty dead on. Make your canvas a bit bigger so the tip of the sword isn't tangent to the right edge.

    Second wash is definately best.

You've got some really nice stuff. Your understanding of shadows is very solid; makes for interesting drawings.

    Keep it up!
