colors at dusk

I wasnt sure if I should be putting this in studies and discovery or here so g'head and move this if it needs it.

After my last pic I thought maybe I needed to work more on color as well as anatomy. I've bought a couple more books, poured through the tutorials here. Some of it might be registering but I am not sure about some things. I'm using a bit of linework evildisco put into the colorbook (thanks evildisco!) to work out an idea. I am not sure how close I am .. or if I should have the pirate in even more sharp/dark shadows and less color.

any input would be great

Nice mood, I really like the atmosphere you created.
I wanted to say that if you need to modify the linework, go ahead, because the feet for instance are effed up.
Eager to see more progress.

noiion - I've not done anything fancy with my hosting/website so if there is communication issues its on my host

evildisco - I am not one to crit anatomy LOL. from where I stand the foot seems ok other than the lack of details. I figure it will mostly be in shadow anyway.

Nice Painting, very moody color scheme.

Top two crits would be

1. Composition: Thats a big pirate, he could use a little more head room.

2. Texture: The sand, wood, and water are all rendered with the same sort of smeary brush strokes. This makes the bottom third of the painting kind of muddy and less interesting than it could be.

brand x : thanks! I can add a bit more to the top of the pic, certainly. and I'll work more into the textures as I get more into the piece. I was just concerned about my color choices before I got too far along.
