How much do relationships effect your art?

Maybe not relationships specifically.. but more like a person of the opposite sex who has caught your eye. How much do they effect your work?

I've noticed whenever there is no girl I am currently interested in, i draw a lot of male demonic characters. But as soon as I get involved with a girl, i start drawing a lot angelic female characters.

This also effects my use of color, as when without a girl I draw darker more black/blue and black/red, while when involved with i draw more white/blue and the like.

Just makes me wonder how many factors shuffle into our creativity.

I'm more conscious about my drawing with having a bf. He's always encouraging me to draw and says he likes my art. I get nervy though 'cause i know he can be a pretty damn good artist (though he doesn't believe me) and i look at his work then look at mine... and throw it away. Oh well. I seem to draw couples together etc when i'm drawing too. I suppose it really can affect your art.

    someone's coming outta the closet...

well,i've never had a girlfriend,so i can't answer that one,but i know i draw alot of both males and females-though generally more male demons probably.

i've noticed since i've gotten serious w/ my girl that i really have not cared nearly as much about what everyone else thinks. she thinks i'm great, thinks i'm a good artist, so who cares about anyone else? it's like i've finally proven myself to the one person that matters. and this in essence has helped me loosen way up. when i'm not trying to impress anyone, my art is way more energetic and free. it's great.

on a related note, when i stop investing time in God and my faith as a Christian, i start to tense up and loose motivation really really fast. even worse if i do something intentionally that i know violates my beliefs (i'm far from perfect, but i'm trying.) so if I'm good w/ my Girl and clear w/ my God I can draw better than the whole lot of ya! life is a balance, you know? and when it's balanced, it's amazing.

    hold on Lord Blue.

When you're with a girl you use blacks/blues.
When you're not, you draw demonic characters.

Judging by avatar... you were involved with a .... shemale?

    LOL!

I always draw pretty girls I see. on the train, at a food court. And if I can't, I'll try to remember them for when I get home.. It's like I can't stop thinking about how pretty some girls are until it's on paper... damn women.

It doesn't affect my artwork in any way except in output. Mostly because I usually doodle with a purpose. Ie, I have created a "world" to populate and I'll be populating that world with creatures, characters, props and so on. And I usually draw MORE in extreme moods, good or bad.

It does make me go thru more mood swings in a day. I'd be happy one moment and completely furious 2 seconds later....all day long.

Personally I think its unhealthy, but heartbreaks cause me to work harder.

I'll put it to you this way guys, as a screenwriter the relationships in my life have a HUGE effect. For instance one just took a huge turn )not for bad) and it just MADE the change I needed in one of my stories.

    Amazing how that works out.

yeah, I have to say that beyond "real" work (paying jobs get done no matter what), the only difference is I may work less when I'm involved with somebody, but I don't work differently. Just a question of scheduling time

I've been single for awhile.. I have kind of just been putting off the whole relationship deal for a few years. I still love drawing females though, occasionally when I am longing for companionship I'll draw a couple just hanging out together.

Sometimes, I'll search for emotions in a picture I'm drawing. I kind of dreg up all kinds of memories that make me really sad or happy, etc.. girls and old relationships are usually the first thing I think about.

I tend to draw more when I'm less focused on finding a boyfriend, ie: already have one. Love and/or security usually motivates me best.

When a relationship is good I've no time for art because I'm to busy doin' it.

When a relationship is bad I've no mood for art because I'm pissed off.

Fortunately my relationship is very ho hum and I've pleanty of time for art and writing.

    Huh???
Peace, Love and Harmony... I could never get them all into bed at the same time!
