    Lab work and Design Assignment

it's a tonal study. About 2 hrs into it using charcoal, conte, and a paper stomp.

The paper though has a heavy tooth and I don't think I should be blending @ all. Rather, aiming to get push the values and have the tooth stand out more ie. the white on the tall pottery.

    Characters for a storyboarding assignment.

would like feedback on getting a more wretched look for the cape off to the side. I've used cross-hatching and contour ink lines so far.

Something I noticed in all of your character drawings is that the heads are all far too big for their body, and not as much in a stylistic way but in a plain old "head too big for their body" way.

You might want to check yourself in the future when drawing heads and make sure your proportions are correct before you continue.

I think your impulse is correct - that you shouldn't blend much with the stump in the white areas. It tends to get smudgy-yucky. Just gotta be sure where the white needs to go and build it up slowly because erasing white is also a disaster sometimes on toothy paper. The bowl is starting to come out nicely but the taller carafe thing looks a little strange the way it's tilting to the side.

Since you know about your characters having "big-head-syndrome" I won't repeat that, but I think the thick black holding line around them is flattening them out and I'm not sure that's what you want at this stage. It looks more like you're carving the contour out just to confirm for yourself what it should be, rather than it being a stylistic choice.

I like your characters though, especially the knights who look like Mark Twain.
