hey Apathy, not sure why I never checked out your sketchbook before; I've seen your pieces around CA and I've always liked them, but I guess it never occured to me that you have a sketchbook ah well, looked through it all and I can understand why everyone says you're such a master with color. too many environments to name that I liked so I'll just talk about your last update or two: these value studies are great! some of them have a sumi-e type of feeling to me. really love the diversity between each picture too.

great stuff man, gonna subscribe to this thread and check back periodically. definitely some good inspiration in here

Hello Idiot, just dropping by, I just started the Peer Project and noticed your sketchbook link, so I thought I'd drop by and check out your stuff. Amazing! I love this one:
    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1.../pathfinal.jpg

I just started digital painting (in fact, with your peer project thread!) and I must say, wow, you're inspiring. You seem to be very good at value studies. I'm trying to focus on that right now.

Would you mind sharing for how long have you been drawing? And digital painting?

Keep at it, and I have a request: do another Angkor Wat! (I love Angkor Wat.)

@evildisco: Ha ! Sweet, but seriously, you're the bastard! I must learn to drawww!
@Ham-e: Man, seriously I think PS just has a higher quality black or something, haha. It's so nice and blackish. Contrast is cool too, I actually like the pure black and white ones better I think.
@purb36: Thanks dude! Large scale? I'm thinking about it, my muse is kicking my ass and saying I need to finalize things, take them further and further. I'm taking baby steps there. He made me join in on the Last Man Standing too... *sigh*
@DieOxin: Value is very important! I'm seeing the effects already. When you going to post your value studies?! Oh, two days ago... I'll go check them out. Hey, you posted twice?! Colors gone! Nooo never! Figures.. yea... soon... *eek* Pencilwork? Not sure I own a pencil...
@Elnady: Thanks! My friend was really pleased, that made me happy
@Cup_of_Joe: Yeah! I'm a little freaked out how close to ink PS can come, even some of the randomness. Let me know when you try this out! I wanna see!
@Onir: Haha, well thanks for finally stopping in! Master of color, seriously I'm still lost on sooo many things. Sumi-e? Yeah, like I was telling Cup_of_Joe, I'm really surprised how close PS can come to ink! Keep coming back man, I'll try not to disappoint!
@Pennington: Thanks dude! Stories for sure, trying to do that a little bit more. Long time no see bro, we'll have to catch up on MSN.
@glikster: hahaha, Thanks... now I'm hungry.
@Maxetormer: Yeah dude! Make sure and let me know if you ever hit up some value studies, I want to see!
@Bumskee: Hey buddy! Yeah, trying to work in some more lines and what not, going to find some time soon to crank out a bunch of crummy figures and have you rip them apart. I'm crazy surprised at the things PS can do man, thanks for converting me
    @Liam.C: Booom! Thanks dude!
@Stillwell: Hey man! Glad your hitting the painting and hard. You'll be very happy with colors if you master value first I think. How long have I been drawing? I'm don't think I should answer that, if I can give you one piece of advice - it is to never compare yourself to other artists, only compare yourself to yourself. If you compare yourself to other artists, chances are you might get very depressed - trust me on that one . Just keep practicing and studying, if you're dedicated you'll make it happen. How long have I been digital painting? hmm, maybe I shouldn't answer that either... I will tell you though, you need to be careful with digital - the amount of total control can be a bit overwhelming, it's a bit more cerebral than traditional in some ways. Traditional media has much to teach, so don't neglect it. Anyways, look at me preaching here :| feel free to PM me if you need some questions answered/encouragement. Sorry I haven't been in the peer project lately, it takes a lot of time, something I don't have lately. More Angkor Wat? Hell yeah!

Ok, some randomness from me today - some of it spread out from earlier too I think. Having fun with things I haven't really done before and new techniques and brushes.

This was just scratch paper for testing out a brush,
worked it up a little bit into something.

Hmm... yeah - this is broken.
Value is the culprit perhaps? Color maybe?

Some random scribble thing... I dunno - technique study I guess.
Maybe a little bit hungerartist inspired in that regard.
Ugh, I don't like this now that I see it again.

I like this one! Started out as pure b&w.
Some layer techniques and overpainting later.

Roooobot! Man, I haven't tried doing a robot in years!
This was fun! Going to have to make some techy brushes I think...
Don't stare into his eyes too long by the way.
Bit of an experiment... it's too powerful I think.

This one started off as a cheap knockoff of the one before,
bleh! Turned out ok... learned some goodies.

A Kanigit. Knight. Too messy... just scribbling and trying out new ideas.

Did this one just before this post. Fun!
    A bit ZOE inspired maybe...
Hmm, strange - It doesn't look very coherent anymore... Kind of jumbled and dumb.
    Bummer.

    Muffins!

I am a little shocked at the stuff you are pulling out these days.. these are some very solid, your best bunch of colours. the knight is awsome, though I think it would have looked sexier less saturated..but that's just me. Beautiful stuff, best of luck in last man standing BTW..hehe

@Alday: Julien, thanks dude! Yeah, you should have told me bots were fun too! What else are you hiding? Thanks for always dropping by mate!
@BDFoster: Hehehe, come on man! I signed up for the LMS2 to compete against myself, and I'd be bummed if you didn't give it your all as well! Who knew we'd be up against a arena.net guy hahaha.
@DieOxin: Thanks dude! 4th one eh? I posted the value comp I started it with today if you are interested mate! Cheers.
@Pennington: Haha, thanks scott. Posted the same link :|. I'll have to fish deeper I think. Tried to get some variety into every post, as much as I love enviroments I want to do more things too! Talk to you later dude.
@koroshiya001: I'm going to have to do more knights I think hehe, nice nose.
@Ham-e: The blue one?! Cool, I didn't particularly like that one too much - glad someone else can haha. Thanks for sticking with me dude, cheers!
@Tenelaus: HA! Rocket of improvement... hehehe. I really just have so much stored up is all, I am on a semester break right now after all. I think I might have to take your suggestion and teach myself some pen and ink. Would be nice to actually "have" some of these I think. Maybe I'll send you some then I've really been enjoying your sb recently mate, I should leave a post
@ashrumm: Thanks dude! Texture was always the thing I missed when I was using painter.
@Bumskee: Hahaha, come on?! No way... Thanks for wishing me luck on the LMS hehe I'll need it. Talk to you later mate!
@Cup_of_Joe: Thanks dude! Sometimes I focus mainly on color and sometimes other things, I think it's important to sort of subconsciously set up an objective and focus on that. Otherwise these speedies would take forever and I'd probably learn a lot less.
@evildisco: Ha! ANGADLY. Oo, looks like I've missed some updates of yours - going to head over in a minute. Cheers dude!
@Poise: Tiffany... did you just call me a Rock Star?! Hahaha, come on! That's insane coming from you! But thanks
@Tensai: hahaha, a whole 50%? Sweet! Come to tokyo? Ok! Can I sleep on your floor? (Somehow I doubt you have a couch in Tokyo...) Keep on doing your thing man!
@Mull77: Haha, thanks dude. I'm really having fun lately - enjoying what PS has to offer. Going to be one of your favorite sketchbooks? Crap! It's not already... hahaha.
@MattGamer: Lol, I know what you mean by you want to sleep in them - I think... Make you pee you pants... ha! I have a new goal then...

A traditional painter that a teacher of mine introduced me to. Some really amazing stuff and (technique?). Make sure and check out his demo's or step by steps, amazing.

Having lots of fun lately, both on the court and off the court if you know what I mean. Not too much time for personal painting, most of this stuff is warm ups or cool downs .

First up is a collaboration! Gaboartpage and I really had fun on this one!

I sent him a really quick abstract of just black and white and his task
was to see something in it.
From there we both doodled until what you see.
He's the one responsible for the cool mechs though, I can't do those...
Here is a link to a step by step he made up:

Some crazy doodle that turned into this.
Was mainly messing around with Flow and Airbrushes.
    Learned some good stuff!
    Oh and color stuff too...

Quick quick value study with a new brush
with quick color over top and testing out yet another new brush!
Simple and plain, but learned some stuff.

Value study, little bit longer than usual.
Trying to work more details into things.
Got down to like an 8 pixel brush! Insane!!!
Also working a little bit more on telling a story,
and not just a pretty picture.
I want to do both but, yeah you know...

A quicky value from today as a warm up.
Again, trying to tell a little bit of a story.

Hehe... like a 5 minute scribble of a cat ... I love cats.

These two are from last post, maybe they are of interest?

I think I like it like this better...

This is where the one from before started out, pure black and white.

    Cheers guys and gals!
