ChrisMayernik : thanks! Less contrast in the shadowy parts does indeed look more natural. I was wondering what was wrong there, thanks for the fresh look.

I'm participating in the polycount vs CGChat dominance war contest
so here's mt first draft for the character concept. Meant to be a sci-fi fantasy half-goddess war general of some sort. I will refine the concept some more and do a normal mapped realtime model of it.

Superbe parti-pris dans la réalisation de l'armure. Tu as pris deux-trois insectes comme ref' ? Non ? C'est le sentiment que j'ai en voyant ton perso, ça c'est du design !
Bravo, m@ !

I wanted to add something to this, at such a distance, any texture that would break the reflection of the water would be pretty small, thus the surface of the water would appear to be alot more reflective and you would see the towers and reflection alot clearer, at this moment the water looks like to be the same material as the ground.Originally Posted by ChrisMayernik
dCept : thanks man! yeah, I'll definitely post the work in progress too
Alday.J : thanks. No I didn't take any direct refs but the inconscious is working
EVIL: thanks for the thought, but that's not true. I didn't look at any refs when doing that so yeah, there are flaws, but just have a quick look at google and you'll see that unless the water is completely still with no wind or current, the reflections are very broken even (especially?) from far away. There are not only small scale differences on water surface, but also differences of temperature, current etc that make the surface uneven on a large scale, thus breaking the continuity of the reflection.
hey m@! i like your character for the polycount v cg thang. the only thing that stands out to me is that she feels uncertain she wants to be a general/warlord. it's in the knees and feet - how the stance isn't proud, but iffy. also, the sword, as if she's sayin' 'aw hell, do i have to wield this thing or what?'
nice idea though!
cheers,

Thanks guys! been slacking a bit in the speed paint department lately. Been doing some life drawing sessions off statues at the Louvre tho, twice a week, trying to keep the pace. Very interresting. Gonna post em when I'll have a little bunch.
redehlert : yeah totally hehe, wasn't trying to get a special pose or anything. Just some costume research. I guess I stopped that contest though, as usual![]()

thanks a lot man! I'm glad you're stopping by. I've really been enjoying your stuff, big respect to you. Actually it's your sketchbook thread that motivated me to do some line work again, and starting that pilot wip a few pages ago (shame on me, don't hink I'm ever gonna finish its coloring tho).
she looks a little like she's going to fall to the right. but it looks cool. i don't know if i've gotten to tell you how much your work has inspired me lately...but it has. ^^Originally Posted by m@.
