Don't want to save your pictures in 'My Pictures' anymore?

1_ Go to your startup menu and open the run command.

2_ Type in regedit

3_ Follow these folders:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER
\Software
\\Microsoft
\\\Windows
\\\\\CurrentVersion
\\\\\\Explore
\\\\\\\\User Shell Folders

Make sure you open USER SHELL FOLDERS and NOT just SHELL FOLDERS.

4_Delete the Key for "My Pictures"
4_Create a new string value called "My Pictures"
Set its value to "cImages"
(assuming "cImages" is the path to the folder that contains your images)

What operating system is this tip for?

I use XP and I don't think you need to do this here. If I put images into a folder, I can choose if I want to see them as thumbnails or tiles or even 'filmstrip'. Regardless of what folder I put them into.

Or is there some other reason for putting them in a 'special' My Pictures folder?

Yes and I have been trying to figure this out forever!


It saves me exactly 13 mouse clicks. I have my folder buried way to deep, but now it doesn't matter.
