Wow, how did I miss this before? Great stuff dude, I am fascinated by the experimentation and variety of style in this sketchbook. Really great work overall!
You use colour very expressively, my only crit here is that in this use of colour, you often sacrifice value and form to show these colours. I'd like to see maybe a bit stronger focus on value alongside the expressive colour.
PLease keep up the studies, self portraits and everything in between!

It may be just me, but on these last few drawings they seem to be a bit darker (line-wise) and confident. They really pop out at you. Maybe more time was spent on the hands, eye, and sp?

Ok, here's an idea for a Blacky membership card---of course, it has to have something unique from your end (quirky), but you could start with a deep sea diver or something of a crazy, mad planet. There you go.

Thanks to all of you that took a look
sve-the way you described my mom, could be perfect describtion of my dad and complete opposite of my mom. Ha, ha, real funny. She simply was real tired and occupied when I drew her . I love dollar sings could draw em all day, (would do, did it do me any good). Yep, my room's my castle. Looks like a scrapyard at times, but thats when I like it most (me chaotic goof). How can you tell it's real cold round here? Does it realy show? Wow. It is realy nice to have an own scullimitation around. Will keep those studies on't up. Am very glad you're enjoying my stuff so much. Did comment on your underwaterpic already.

Heroic-thx a lot for stopping by again, appreciate it a lot. One of the reasons I picked up doing more stuff in pencil, was actualy to improve my hatching. You're totally right on your crit. Will have to workon it some more.

SirGreenSock- You've got a realy funny name, and your crits are always very helpfull wherever you post. So, I'm glad you posted in here samewell. Form and value-study on its way

Orosco- Thank you. Am honed to have you stop by here.

Fooxoo-Like your new avatar, your replies are pleasant to read too. thx

madplanet- Hey Bruce, you need to update your sb so I can return those favours, that start to pile up on here . Gues I'll have to cut short the time planed on this membership card from 3 weeks to....hmmm..2! Great proposition of yours. I love scuba diving. Will go with it. And yes last scetches took me a while. Cheers

Nothing I'd call exciting (the exciting stuff's gonna be posted this weekend or so)

    Hey you deserve the stars!

I really love that skull pic, what was that done with? Looks like a mix between acrylic and pastel, maybe goauche? Was it done from ref?
Figures look great, very interesting poses, although some have balance problems, try maybe drawing a line of action or a gesture beforehand to ensure theyre balanced.

    Thumbs up

... You have been so tremendously busy, and it has been far too long since i've dropped by.

blackythe last several updates: -->very, very impressive! And I love the peak inside your studio / working space. the pencil portraits, self and of your mother are looking very, very nice. this skull drawing is looking freaking excellent. It seems like you are starting to maybe strike some balance between the working really quick tendency and to do more focused observational type drawings ... This is something that i have a difficult time with in my own work; maybe you can share YR secrets on how you do it? For instance, if you had this piece and this piece side by side and showed them to a stranger, he or she would not think that they were by the same person! They'd be totally blown away i think. this is what i love about your artwork and why i think it is so special that you are sharing your improvement with us conceptart people.

very nice hand studies by the way... they are getting better!
    cheers, -joel

yaaaaaa.....it looks like finger nails being pulled off!! Oh wait, just a hand study. I'd never hold up under torture.

I agree with Guggen that sometimes your work looks as though it was done by different people. It's artistic Sybil-ness, hehe. I'm really diggin' the colored arm and hand study. That turned out nice and so did the skull. You do those skulls well, my friend.
And I did update, so come on by, beer's in the fridge.

    you got the jazz

    well blacky,
it seems that obviously like jazz--I was listening to some Albert Ayler Spirit's rejoice last night and -- i thought about your sketching furiously to the sound of some really crazy jazz and i began to wonder what kind of jazz it is you like or are listening to? I like the really crazy stuff that most of your Miles Davis / john coltrane fans don't dig on so much... later john coltrane, ornette coleman, Albert Ayler, Pharoah Sanders, Alice coltrane, and i LOVE sun ra... just wondering friend! thanks for all your hard work! cheers!

Hello, Blacky . hehehe, wrong parent? . well. at least, I didn't go beyond your family. My dad is a major introvert too.
Well, I might be wrong, but yeah, I feel a lot of cold weather in your last images. But really it's not hard to see. Look how many wool textures you got in your artwork later. And poses of people. They are not opening up, they're trying to bend, make themselves smaller, hide their bodies from the wind.

In your last update I like the idea of a hammer and a gripper. it's funny and witty and ironic, as I see it. Such a waste of time and energy. Very cool. I love the simplicity of the figures. It was a little bit hard to recognise at first though, maybe a bit more define lines would be better, but overall, I love it, it's a great idea.
Thank you so much for being such a great friend and helping me with underwater study, I appreciate it hugely and agree on every word. I will continue to try.

Hey, thanks for checking out my SB. You've got some great works in here. I really like the anatomy studies especially the x-ray pics of the skeletal and muscular systems. Your style is sketchy but done well so the viewer can still see what you're portraying. And that Bugati Veyron... awesome!

    Oh, ha...10 replies.

SirGreenSock- I have an own scul(replica)l at hope (me lucky chap). Did the study with white guache on watercoulourpaper, toned black with ink and watercolours. Those figures were random doodles, thanks for pointing balance problems out, will have to get a better feeling for that. Thx for stopping by.

Heroic- Hey, thanks a lot for the kind words, will work on some more handstudies for sure, didn't get this done until this update though (among other things). Interesting advise you got for me, will have to give it a try.

Thefatkid- thx for droping in, those werent lifedrawings but random doodles, I felt I had improved on (in comparison to the doodles I used to do), so I posted em. I will definately have to do a precise drawing of sth. somewhen but not in near future I guess, am working on some rather precise sp and lifedrawing in acrylics right now.

OroscO- Hey, that's very, very encouraging. Thank you.

Guggenmaneuver- Eye Joe, very nice reply you wrote. Made my day. Right now I'm trying to figure out how to send you a PM (thanks for the one from you) there seems to be a problem with the server.
    Oh, and........Doublepost: 1up! and 500 Points, congrats.
and that "Joel blacky fan club member, checking in" one, gave me quite a laugh

madplanet- Thanks a lot for your support. Artistic Sybill-ness ? hmm..sound like a good name for my sb (he,he). Yea I try to come up with as much difersity as I can. quirks

Serpian-thanks for the ecouraging word, am trying to work harder whenever time is given (still am too lazy, though)

sve- Hey, sveta it's always a treat to read your replies. They give a lot of helpful insight. Am very glad you were able to read what the Hammer and Gripper-pic was supposed to say, not sure too many people did. An area for me to work on still.
It's slowly getting wormer, so people will hopefully open some more.
Criticising your underwaterpicture was actualy a healthy exercise for me. I love scubadiving, should do a picture on it some time. So having some thoughts about it, I'll hopefully know what problems to watch out for. So long..

darkchild-Thanks for checking out mine too. Glad you're liking it. The veyron one got soaked in te rain (parialy) so it created a nice effect. Like it too.

Ok, back to some loose scetchyness again (couldn't help it)

Hey Blacky, I'm really lovin' all of these last figure sketches. You've simplified them and caught the pose with minimal line use and done a great job at that. The guy with his hands on his stomach, the guy with his head in his hands and the guitar player (the first one) are just superb. Yes, all asspats.

Wonderful update, Blacky, just wonderful. Many of these images could be great illustrations for a book. I'm enjoying them very, very much.

Especially I like the first one. It has wonderful perspective and people are alive, I just feel they are near me, it's happening right now.

Well this actually one of your strongest qualities, your art is very involving and has a great feeling of current moment. Proportions are very nice too.

People sitting and sleeping in moving bus. As always I can tell it from your drawing. Amazing ability to show movement and hint on what's going on around. you do it like nobody else. So this guy with his leg up is awesome, I can see his age, his social position and him using this hour to relax a bit, looks like life is getting to him.
Him again, still very removed from reality around him. I love those sketches, saved them.

All musicians are great too, well, it's hard to criticize, too many information one can extract from your fast drawings, so sorry, not much I can find. I would say though, you can make your lines more varied. Yours are mostly curvy and long. You can add short, straight and strict, let's see what happens after that, if you are willing to try.

The last sketch is wonderful too. Is it from imagination? where did you find the kid dressed so warm?

I'm wondering how your sketches will be if you try to color them, but for the contrast color them in careful, slow manner and in colors maximum close to natural, to fit the mood in your drawings. No pressure to do it though.

    So thank you,
    Sveta

I dig your loose sketches. They all look very dynamic and show some mood of the single moment. Shading could be sometimes tighter but for ultra-fast sketches it's ok, I think .

love your drawings of musicians. you might want to check out an artist called Charlie Mackesy, who's done a load of great pieces of musicians (jazz scenes in particular). your drawings remind me of his stuff, very nice.

Glad so many of you responded to such a tiny post of mine. Thanks.
madplanet-Thanks a lot for your "asspats". Was having a bad time lest couple of days over, so I didn't mind em at all. Membershipcards the way they were supposed to get done are endangered right now though. (Scoolstress )

mentler-Appreciate it, will have to go out and about way more often once it gets warmer.

sve- Your replies are awesome. Thanks. I drew this guy (who's sleeping) directly after Jazznight in the sub. It was great as I was all warmed up and ready to draw, and what happens? When I enter the wagon I notice this beatifuly sleepy guy, who's presence was so very expressive that one could not, but draw him. I probably was the only person around to realise the beaty of the scene...but it was sheer fun drawing him nevertheless.
Am not sure about what to do with my lines. On the one hand I'd like to give your suggestion a try, on the other hand my artteacher wants me to draw even longer lines, as he's a huge Fan of Egon Schiele.
Last kiddies were from imagination, samewell done in a sub.
Should make a picture of what our subs in Germany look like (We've got TV's in there ) and post it in the "Show your studio"- thread.
Concerning colouring....don't know, todays update has one of these, but I could get back to it, once I start drawing outside.

Pennington- ten mark? realy...damn I knew I had forgotten something...lol. Thanks man.

Farvus- I suck at shading, thats why I do ultrafast scetches . Glad you liked em.

timpaatkins-Hey, it's tim! How you're doing. Will have to check if you're still doing dayly sb's (Hope so). Thanks for your kind words. Made my day.

fishw-Hey, man. So glad you pointed Charlie Mackesy out to me. Checked him out and was in awe. His stuff's breathtacking. He has achieved almost everything I was heading for with those Jazzscetches already. Inspiring.

Serpian-hey, thank you. Good to hear you liked em.

SirGreenSock-Lucian Freud?....hey, my grandpa used to be a rather influential Psychologist too. Perhaps that's why . Thanks for having a thought about that. Always glad to have you stop by.

    Orozso- Thanks man.

Was real busy lately with final exams and "trifles" like that. So it took a while to come up with this update.

Hello. Blacky, you describe the scene in the sub perfectly. Great advertisement. I don't like the feeling of envy, it's destructive in its nature, I think. So, not an envy, but I sure wish I was in this moment in this sub too and with something to draw on. What an ideal moment. An artist and a model, and no one to disrupt, and the model is so relaxed, he will sit unmoved forever. Beautiful, indeed.

If your teacher tells your to go for long lines, well, what can be done? Nothing. Follow the professional, if you trust him. Just I think it's a good thing to try all approaches too. To never stop to surprise your viewer and yourself, you know.
And I can add that if you know your weakness ( you said it's a rendering, in your case) well, you need to jump on it and make it better. Although knowing your weak sides is the first important thing, in my opinion. So respect from me, blacky and now try to work on it .

My favorite in new update are:

the Adam and Eve, lovely lines and contrast in the two figures, and I like the smooth delicate manner. You somehow did manage to save this baroque sensation, even though your drawing does have the contemporary feeling too. And I have to say you were on the borders to make it too loose , but you managed to keep it delicate, I think.
The same applies to cupids too.

I like your still life for the cold feeling of the plate, glass and bottle. It feels right. That's how I think it will be when I touched them. cold, smooth, polished.

Heroin addict, well, that's funny approach and a bit spooky. Looks like he dancing under influence or from pain of wounding his hand with shot, or both. Crazy feeling of pain and ecstasy. Dancing, incapable to stay still.

Your portrait is wonderful. Well I love blue, it's deep and moody, nothing better to show your out of world state of mind, I think. Love how you did texture of your hair and the beard. Love the expression of your face.
    So thanks,
    Sveta

HOLY FREAKING CRAP. That is totally disturbing--Saw someone shoot up on this movie and it really freaked me out. Very good interpretation.

And the self portrait is rocking... great work friend!
