na man, these are great, just keep doing digitals, and experimenting, it shouldnt take too long for you to find something you're comfortable with. Your traditional skills are already great, it shouldn't take long for all of it to transfer to your digitals. I'd say it would be a good investment to keep on with the digitals. Don't worry too much about shite lookin work, gotta have the shite to learn from it and move on.

you have stuff genius is made of...so why stop ..and think yerself inferior... why dont you use your sketches as references...
but these digis are wow...i dont why you dont do much about it... but I really want to coax you more to do conceptual paintings...dont have to be digi..dont like digis myself...but definitely oils...

One mans Lame Digis is another mans masterfrickenpeice digis. never so true as here on conceptart. I don't see anything wrong with em, maybe value range could be improved but thats the beauty of digital, never forget that you can fuck around with it till it looks like you want it to in the end. Cause thats the whole point. enough rambling, good stuff I am completly depressed about my own drawing abilities now.

Luke, I enjoy your recent digital paintings. I see you're wondering if they're worthwhile. On one hand, there's no requirement for an artist to work digital. If you're like Djurdjevic and get swamped with concept artwork commissions, and you know digital well, then it's alot faster, otherwise do what you like. On the otherhand, if this is your biggest challenge of late, then working at it might help you grow and influence all your other work. This all depends on what your goals are.

Here are a couple observations (and thanks for the compliment):

1. Clarity/Edge treatment. Compare your pencilwork and oil painting to your digital work. There's a huge contrast of clear sharp edges to blurry areas in everything except the digital work, where everything is blurred/out of focus. Sharpening up your figures in certain places would help them a ton (in fact most or all of them feel unfinished).

2. Empty space. You fill your drawings and paintings with life - with characters, light and shadow, textures, etc. It comes naturally to you. With digital, not so much, although I see improvement already from post 699 to 700. Part of it is your drawings are conglomerations of different studies, concepts, dreams, all pressed together. Instead of simply conveying the content, they're more of a window into your mind. The digital works are too, but in a much more limited way.

It's very tough working digital. It seems to draw its strength from collage and fancy brushes, although zhuzhu manages some very simple/clean works that rely on expressive line over everything else.

My advice, as a novice/fan is to keep going, and grab a few fancy brushes to play with, like how m@ and leventep work. Don't paint like them, but see what new things you can come up with. experiment.
