Red face Western Theme -finished 10-30-

finished. add dirt particles, dust, a few tweakings here and there, and a bit of color correction.I can't do anymore because today's the deadline.

    close up:

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Here's a layout before i start coloring.I've never done anything with these much geometries. I drew insane amounts of construction and perspective lines. Used reference for the carriage and horse, but of course no tracing. But i did trace the guns. I got too damn lazy to make one up.
Still trying to nail out a color palette. Having trouble with it. maybe thinking of using a sunset color palette.
    Crits always welcomed. =]

rollin along. I find it difficult to harmonize all the colors with multiple light sources. man, i hope this comes out half decent. CC always welcomed

started coloring. i know im getting lost with the color palette. So any help with that aspect would be greatly appreciated. The gun fire is more of a place holder to determine light source.

this image i used for that girl behind that middle guy. I crashed a local workshop here in L.A. a few weeks ago. It was a 10 minute pose. I liked it so much that i decided to use it for this little project.

Hi, Mono ! First time I see your stuff and I find it very good, bravo ! Can't wait to see some more ! But maybe you have to draw your whole piece like you did on the faces BEFORE to put colors on. It's just a suggestion. Aniway, well done, Mono. I'll coming back later to see your prgress/process.
    Cheers !

    grazie,
i was thinking of adding value to the rest of the piece, but then i realized i wanted make their clothing relatively dark, so imo, adding value would be a waste of time, although cast shadows and pure black value like their hats isn't out of the question. I've spent out a good 20 hours fleshing out a decent layout for this and i really need to get started on color blocking and such.
Thanks for your kind words sir.

    ByJoe!

    Awesome stuff!

Personally I would hate to see colour on it! Maybe keep all the objects outside of the carrige blurred. Like that guy on the horses upfront compared to guy with shotty on carrige right!

hey Mono! the western is lookin cool! The only thing I would crit. is the shadows under the guy and girls chin a looking too hard, I would say soften that area, and maybe add a relfect light under the chin. The quick study is great!

very nice chick .. but the hart kills it.. i would move it a lil to the side to it follows that all muscle.. to add more depth of course and her lil top.. ad more cloth to the back so it seperates from the body more.. giving it more interest and more a clothy look
and.. yeah.. uhhhuhuhh.. sexy loose shirt!
    cheers,

    i must say O_O
i do love the first one but the mans left arm seems funny-its like its pushed up some
also the part of the coat looks like it has no depth~
wi is right the heart does take away from your pic~it makes me focus on it and not on the lady
if someone were to color i would be very specific but if your just going to ink it i think what would be awsome if you made the BG look like those old western wanted posters or like just make the paper look old~
    just my 2 cents

Runteh-omg, i so agree with you, i'm not compelled to color it. But unfortunately, my employer demands it. And yes i plan to use a bit of motion blur to give the sensation of movement and action. thank you for your kind words sir.

poise - thanks for the time to look at my work. i immediately saw the lack of reflective lighting prior to posting it here. I plan to add them on the final touches to this piece. Yes, it sorely needs it, i agree that its way too harsh in contrast.thanks again for your crits Miss.

sebkeb - currently coloring it. I'll be posting my progress regularly. I really like how the layout turned out, i need all the feedback i can get. I'd hate to F*ck this up royally.

wi-2 - im not understanding the "heart" part you are explaining. you mean his chest area? if it is, i still don't see it. Maybe someone else can shed light on the matter.im just really curious now to that flaw, but dagnabbit, im not seeing it!!! but i'll do my best to separate her from the middle guy....if that was what you meant.
Thanks for your time, i appreciate it!

kenshin - ah, thanks for spotting his left arm, i'll make sure to tweak it.
And i still don't see "heart" problem. I'm just not seeing it, can you go in depth?
And cheers for the idea of that old western wanted poster feel to it. I love the idea. im definitely gonna apply that. Thanks a million!!!

thanks everyone for taking the time to critique my work. I'll be posting my color progress real soon.

The problem with the heart on the sitting chick is that it's too central...It demands focus from the eyes...Moving it to the left or right would "un-focus" the heart and put more emphasis on her instead...Otherwise, beautiful stuff...Hope to see more...

Lastly, watch those hooves...Theyr'e getting a bit square-ish...Great job on use of reference...Kudos to you for that...

Great pice, love the style! Just one thought tho, where does the girls leg go? It looks like you should be able to see her knee on the other side of the drivers(?) head.

started coloring. update on top. I feel im getting lost with color. Im worrying about how all the colors will harmonize in relationship to the different light sources.

kanji- you know what? i had no idea what you guys we're talking about a heart. It totally confused me, until i realized the heart comment was referring the the 10min study. Im such an idiot. Plus, what's a hoove?

Jove-haha, yeah i saw that as well, she has no legs! i'll be sure to add one in the next pass. thanks for spotting that.

Wi_2 - Im such an idiot man, i was all focusing on the actual project to what you we're commenting on. Rotated it, titled my head, flipped it. Nothing! until kanji mentioned it again, and it clicked!! haha, i'm so slow at times. and the model was quite stunning. thanks for your feed back nonetheless.

    update on top.
eventually I will have to paint in dust smoke caused by the carriage. If anyone knows how to tackle that problem (brushes used?), i would be greatful!

    this is looking really good,
    and the progress is wonderful.

    three things bother me:

try not to close off really dynamic shapes.
for instance the hat of the driver touching the girls hands,
and the shooters hat touching his own hand,
really create static shapes that impede the composition.

    secondly,
the angle of the revolver seems off.
you can still make it point downward, but given the position of his hand,
i feel it should be pointing toward us more.

    lastly,
    the uzi.
i assume you want a mixed era feel to the piece.
but, nothing else in the entire piece is futuristic.
either ditch the uzi or add some more tech through out.

    8-28 update
DS - I greatly appreciate you taking the time to correct some of the errors. You sir ROCK HARD!!! I fixed the problems you mentioned. And you we're 100% correct.

I'm almost there..well, hopefully, just minor tweakings and adding dirt particles flying off the ground and adding a smoke trail.

very nice mono!!I like colors so much...for me the only problem are horses...are one of the hardest things to draw...so...I can´t expalain you the way...but I problaby would take some images,or better a bokk of stop motion,to understand the movement.
one of the best drawed horses thath I have seen are in spirit!!the film of dreamworks.I was coping every day lots of horses drawings..during 3 weeks, cause I had a very BIG problem whith this beautiful animal...and now I see that easyer...
now my problem is only normal(whith horses)
but please continue!but seriusly,I would do some whith his faces(horses)

GAH why didnt i see this before? this is wonderful, a real sense of movement and action it may have already been said, but the horses heads are disproportionate for their bodies, as in theyre quite short in comparrison :/ other than that a stunning piece!
