couldn't update before. had things to do and friends coming over so havent been sketching that much.

Sirio Brozzi - thanks for commenting on those. i like the top-left thumb best, but i like the idea of what i can do with bottom-right. i might sketch a bit on them simultaneously.

sve - thanks for your nice comments. this is funny because i sort of had the same thought with your last couple of paintings in your book. 'what did she do here/how did she do this?' different modes of working but a mutual interest i guess. like i said though, this was just a quick sketch without too much thought. it was just for fun and i wanted to try out some colours and get something with digital that wasnt so flat, or all digital looking.
because you seemed so curious though, i put up some screenshots for you. pictures say more than words.

brushpen sketch, added value with marker. the marker will also add some texture. i didnt use it here, but you can also play around with colourless blender which dissolves some of the marker.

scanned the above sketch and put the layer blend mode on multiply. then painted on a layer below it. added the other structures (i think they were moving buildings) and colours/lighting. you can see i was just doing a quick test cause i didnt even bother to sketch the other buildings on paper.

overpainting: lines were really heavy so you can knock it back and add more atmosphere by painting over it. i spattered some gouache around with a toothbrush, scanned it, made a brush and splattered around. you can set the layer or the brush on a different blending mode too get more interaction between whats under it, and what youre putting down.

again, its just a small sketch, done real quick to test my brush and markers. nothing that would normally ask for a wip i think. but i do like the technique and use it in different forms every now and then.

would love to see how you did some of your recent paintings. now those were brilliant!

A little texture goes so far, even better if you make it with traditional media. Wicked sketches man, I love the cityscape thumbs with the flash of orange and red. The cool gray-blues you tossed in compliment perfectly.

Tensai, you are sweet, thank you so much. I'm still incurably obsessed with this panting, a-a-a-awesome. Do more of those, ple-e-e-ese. Different objects, different themes, OK? Such a simple and exciting style. I love it.

About mine, Are you talking about the kurdish woman? It's a drawing actually mostly, not a painting. A digital drawing. I used some textures, but mostly it's a dry hard edge brushes. I might changed opacity of some layers. Most of the time it's just my personal preferences where to stop, or where to add. You better ask more precise questions, because I kind of don't know exactly what you asked. I want to tell you everything you want to know, just ask me more to the point questions, OK? ohayou!

im liking the orange youve been using lately. i just like orange in general, so its nice when i see it used starkly. are the thumbs for a new illustration? i personally like the bottom left one...hope that ojiichan knows what he's talking about.

strych9ine - thanks for dropping by man. you know i love that freaky stuff youre dropping.. texture is definitely what its all about!

sve - dropped you a line in your book. for me this technique seems the same as what ive done before, just the colours might have come out better. i do like it so ill do some more. hopefully the same magic will pop up (better dont count on it though

purb36 - konbanwaa. yeah i have these phases where things are certain colours. the thumbs are for a new ill yes. one that im doing for myself but that i can hopefully sell to a certain magazine i have in mind...

bit of a crappy update. these are all not worthy but its where my mind is at... and i could use the practice, im rusty..

Was about to ask some studies, and after seeing those, well, im convinced that you have some very good skills and made your own style.
I just got a question, how much time does it takes you to do those huge cities ? Cause i can't even imagine myself doing those.

Recursive_End - there are some older studies on some of the other pages. i should do more obviously... the cityscapes can take quite a long time. couple of days line work, couple of days colouring. it depends.

stilling missing my woman, so i did this quick portrait of her from ref with chinese brush and diluted ink. its not without flaws but the likeness is pretty damn accurate.

I really like the quality of your line work/sketches here, on the figures. I'd like to see that refined more, I think. Perhaps longer figure studies? or many many more even shorter figure studies? Its definitely great. I also really like that landscape drawing/painting. Fun stuff going on there.

I'll be coming back to check up on this stuff, great work.

crazy good new work in here! I really like that marker/digi painting with the step-by-step. I'm going to have to try to make some spatter brushes for Painter as you described.

your line work is getting more confident and clear. the trio with the red accents from post #148 have a lot of life to them.

Great googly moogly! I'm so freakin jealous of your line work! Really expressive but still dead on, well done. Of course your cityscapes are breath taking, but I'd love to see more full figure drawings. You can really say a lot with one line, I'm lookin forward to more.

Pixeldragoon - yes, need to study more. but i have to say every drawing is a study and at the moment im studying getting simpler and more expressive. your right though, it will be on my list.

bkkeough - thanks man. getting confident is all about practice. and practicing with brush pen makes using other pens and pencil a breeze. i personally think im a bit rusty though. used so much pencil lately.

Andy P - you jealous of my linework? i can say the same thing man. seriously love your warped lines. thanks for dropping by man.

pennington - dont give up on the brush too quickly man. make a pencil sketch and take another paper and ink that same drawing. if your lucky the chinese brush will give your drawing instant expression and attitude.

I have to say that when you add color to something it just adds a punch that works, man. I especially like when you use the oranges and greens (I identify these colors with you, lately), but of course the greys always work well, too. So, on this last one, did you illustrate the building and then turn it upside down because it looks as though it can be viewed through a canyon? Anyways, it's interesting.
