TOPIC: The Arrival of an Alien Rockstar

Deadline: Tuesday, May 5th

First, congrats to kingkostas for winning the Street Fighter's Childhood EOW!

This week's theme is to design a scene depicting the arrival of an alien rockstar (on whatever planet you so choose) Is it a welcoming celebration for a Rolling Stone of a terrestrial society of the future? Has the rock star been exiled and is far from welcome, sneaking past Atmospheric Patrol in order to garner a performance for the citizens? Think about the purpose of the visit. In your image, try to tell a story. Keep in mind that if you don't want to get into any character designing for this round, a very distant bird's eye view of the scene might work in your favor so you wouldn't need to illustrate the rock star.

Brief:
1. No, the alien rockstar can't be the Diva from the Fifth Element.

2. You must post at least once in this W.I.P. thread to be included in the finals thread for the voting poll.

W.I.P. Challenge: (optional)

This week's Work In Progress challenge is to pencil sketch two different alien rockstars. I think this would be an opportunity to show off some really cool ideas and bare stylization approaches, i.e. the alien's musical instrument of choice and costume, and also exotic bodily appearance.

I think I need to work on scale-as the dancing girls inside the ship and the foreground dont match. but other than that, looks ok so far. criticism very appreciated!

well, I've adjusted a lot, brought the scale back to a more manageable level. The fish-inspired spaceship is gliding through gigantic skyscrapers here and over slender floating pathways filled with adoring fans. The dancers on the ship are silhouetted against spotlights and I even added the cause of all the fuss, right in the "mouth". I thought the helicopters added a lot of pomp so I threw them in. Still got a bit of tweaking but I think its pretty ready for color. criticism very welcome!

I'm not sure what the deal is with using bits of photos but I did use photos for the buildings (ugh-the tediousness of painting them). I'm not uber-righteous about photo use myself but please do comment if it is not appropriate for this contest. thanks

I added some color. Its usually my favorite part but I think this one is stronger really desaturated so i may leave it like this. The ship got brighter in value. Any comments on the changes or coloring appreciated!

Loving the ship design Corrick. I kinda feel like the bottom left corner is a bit empty in terms of composition as opposed to the middle area which has the main of the ship and the skyscrapers. Perhaps make the ship at the bottom left corner larger and move it closer to the corner so that it clips out of the image.

hey, as I`m doing mostly photograpic and graphic design stuff atm and no painting stuff, this was quite tedious to paint, but it was fun after so long time...

Alright we're back guys. I'm going to go ahead and say that this round is closed, so I'll be posting the poll later tonight! Until then, you have a grace period to post your finals. (Unless it looks final enough and it's in here, I'll just transfer it.)
