    >>>Lady Lioness' digital and traditional studies: UPDATED A LOAD- MARCH!

Hey everyone, I consider myself a lurker but a loyal member of ConceptArt, and I just wanted to share my art with everyone else. Comments or Critiques would be great (:

Currently it is summer break for me and I am trying to build up my digital painting skills so you will see a lot of that, but also many drawings in this sketchbook.

    Self Portrait

And I believe this is my first digital painting

heres the link to most of my stuff that is not too old but you could see the progress Seen here

    Interesting...

I've never had the chance to see progress like this (before and after). Keep it up! If I have any crits, I'd just say this:

If you're drawing yourself from a mirror (or even if you're not), remember to try to draw the shapes/forms and shading that you actually see, and resist the temptation to draw parts out of your head. What do I mean? When I look at your eyes in the portraits, they seem to hint at being lighter than they are in real life (maybe you do have very light eyes, I wouldn't know). It may help to play around with using a broader range of values; don't neglect you shadows and dark areas/spots. It seems like you prefer to stay around lighter, subtle tones (there's not necessarily anything wrong with that).

    Keep up the good work!

Wow, the self portrait improvement is amazing.
My suggestion would be to work on your line confidence, it seems like you take many short strokes to make lines and its affecting your work greatly, specialy in the pens.

I like the first portrait. The second one seems a little flat. Your last piece is interessting, I really like the pose.

Keep it up, you have a nice sketchbook so far.

I remember seeing your stuff a while ago, glad to see you've started up again.

One thing I've been told about lines is to know the whole line before you draw it, and to try doing much in one stroke.

I like the last picture, though the feet could be more to the right so it doesn't look like he's going to fall over(but you probably already knew that).

    Keep practicing.

Thanks for the crits and comments guys

@LightKirtar, yeah i hope to get a really good likeness of myself on a full portrait. hmm i never really thought about my lines, but i will now! thxs for dropping in.

@Pesmerga, thanks. oh the 2nd one is an example of my older works for comparison, i ll write that above it.

@dCepT, yeah its great seeing my improvement, but then i get greedy and think "geez i should be way better by now blah blah" sigh I like many others are not satisfied but hey, gues thats what keeps us going, thanks for the kind words

@Cyrus, yep i ll work on the lines then, it has to be a problem when two people mention it. the legs, yeah I didnt notice that until after i posted it last night, ick, i ll be sure to keep an eye out for those things next time. thanks for the crit.

@killing.people drool youre one of my idols thanks.

okay so this is my 2nd to last post for the week, i ll be off to New York for a real summer trip

A painting I put away in the wrong folder in my computer that i found. simple study for my friend's arm from a photo

A painting I did from a photo I found from the reference forum, heres the link
    http://www.g-cans.jp/intro/07photo/index.html
its supposed to be underground ways but they look so damn cool :Q i ll have to do some more paintings on these.

ugh my painting did no justice to the photo, i dislike using low opacity since it makes my paintings look all fuzzy but when i did the paint in higher opacity it just stood out way too much, well i guess thats what practice is for

    Greetings

First and foremost you have made progress. However painful it is to say or think about give more thought to the proportions of the gladiator. His Head is decent but the body (based on the way the cape wraps around it) is too wide to appear natural. The right arm extended the way it has its sholder lower than the left shoulder. As opposed to pointing out flaws the color work is very nice in that your grasp of the basics is better than mine whas when I was younger. You know of contrast and Im am positive that you will progress with it the same way that you have progressed with your portaits. Other than that your simple sketches the penwork from the trip and the puppetier in the boxers shows more promise than other things I have seen. You obviously have a growing talent and I wish you luck, so try to concentrate on proportions of anything you base in reality and when you have a style all your own you will notice that it comes much easier when you know what the basic form of something is when you ahh crap Im ranting... Keep drawn try more reference work you will improve.

@Sly's Hand, yeah im having trouble with color, im sort of winging it -.- I need to study on color theory and take a class. I fixed the arm and the back area, tell me what ya think. Thanks for the crits and comments, its what ive been needing for this piece.

@Yina, thanks, hey and you update more often too eh?

So I went further into the painting, more than I had first imagined and now im thinking that the seating for the emperor is clashing with the gladiator itself. Duh, I need to keep in mind of compo, any suggestions on how to tone it down to have the gladiator as the main attention?

sweet, nice progress with the sp's.

hmmm... i'm thinking that the two concepts are a little plain... with only two layers. the subject and the background. it feels like they are not finished.

and with your handwriting... there's no hope whatsoever.
jk. i find that slowing down a little helps.

I really like your teeshirt designs, but It would be nice to see very close details in your work. so far, you seem to just be putting down the basics.

    but youre making progress.

    Oi

It has been a while but the gladiator is coming along nicely... As far as the background clashing one thing you can try is desaturating or making the colors in the background duller to force the cape and the person themself to stand out more. Im no expert but the grassy road side and the stone arches have a good feeling to them and the perspective is nice. I do agree that you should spend more time with one picture that you are doing, like the gladiator (nice lift on the arm by the way). The head on the swimsuit model does not seem tall enough, but wide enough it does seem. Well before I start to rant just want you to know the progress is nice keep it up...

@MisterJC, hey, yeah i have to push myself to make them more complex. Oh yeah i know i could write neater if i wrote slow but i just dont have patience too haha. Im fine with it being messy, no one needs to read my work (:

@Rebecca, yeah very basic stuff and as I said to JC, I do need to push my stuff and spend more time on them then eh?

@Sly's Hand, thanks for the crits for the gladiator painting, gee i need to get back to painting him.

really did not feel like painting today but i drew something. I notice that i always draw my people from the side view..and theyre men i need to draw more females.

hey you have pretty cool ideas running in your book. the dog posters, lounge and ponder are awesome. if i was to give advice with the portraits it would be to find some shape with the shadows and fill in with pencil, don't do the scratch thing. even with the faces just try to find the basic shap of the light and dark and go with that. cool stuff and keep up with the drawing!
