Scary Ink, this thread is for figure drawings done from life, either by looking at a model or in a mirror (for self portraits).

Your drawing looks like it may have been done from a photograph and as something to get back at your ex, rather than a means of study.

If you'd like a place to post it, I would suggest the Sketches forum, or starting your own sketchbook thread in the Sketchbook forum.

Uhh Emily. 1. I wasnt aware that life drawing only means "serious" drawing - no humor allowed. 2. I misunderstood thinking life drawing vs still life. " Drawing from a live model would have given me a clue. Mea culpa. There are however a number of pieces on this thread that were obviously not drawn from a live model. Thank you to both administrators for the warm welcome.

Scary Ink - Lol, I think your piece is valid of being considered a life drawing. But, I think it's the content of your piece that puts them off. If your intention was a study with humor, then they probably misunderstood it for a petty and imature attempt at vengeance cuz of the context in which you submitted it. yknow.. the whole "This is for my soon to be ex... *moons you*" etc. etc...

A drawing from yesterday and gouaches from today. I'm really not very familiar with gouaches, so any pointers are appreciated. I started to feel more comfortable as I applied the paint more thickly, at first I was worried, due to past experiences, that I couldn't cover older layers and that kept me a bit too much on my toes. The white I have doesn't cover too well anyway, need to get something better. And stiffer brushes. But overall I was surprised that it didn't seem like a complete disaster.

These were about 15-20 minutes a piece, so given my lack of expertise I tried to concentrate on just one thing at the expense of others, namely on getting the values somewhat right. Don't know if I did, but sure didn't nail the anatomy very well.

No, it's because it obviously wasn't drawn from life.

Stephen: That looks great, very well done. Also, I took a peek at your web site; you have some great concept art in there!

Looking for comments, crits, tips. My first session with compressed charcoal. Harder to get sharps than with a chalk brick. 2 5's, 10's and 20's. Nobody posts gestures?

Going on with gouaches. Kind of liking it, although I find I can only really muster up the concentration for a couple of OK pieces per session.

First two about 15-20 mins, latter two 30-40 min a piece. Still having a little trouble setting a value range from the get-go and sticking to it, I find I often have to darken my darks a bit. Getting better though.

DangerousLlama, I really like the studies on blue paper.
Main Loop, really strong drawings, you appear to be very consistant.
    Grinn, Awesome sustained studies.

I drew somebody wearing clothes the other night, which was really nice for a change! Three 20's and a 60.

Great study Nadiamoon! But those lines of your darkest dark on the pectoral, serratus and running from the abdominals to the rib cage violate the front plane of the torso

    African godess

    Mark Malone: Good instincts!

Main-Loop: The pole-girl's arm just needs a line around it. Try feeling the compression between her raised shoulder and her neck.

    This is a 5, a 10, 15's and a 20.
