Here we go - my little sketchbook

    Hello together,
in this place I want to show you my sketches, to track my progress. I am 30 years old an until last summer i never really created a piece of art after finishing school.
At first the idea of create oil paintings ran into my had. I quickly realized that i sucked.

I stumbled upon someone's comment, stating: a person that is good in drawing, is often also a good painter.
So i gave it a try.

I just kept the most of the sketches, and although they are embarrassing I will show them here. I would greatly appreciate criticism and suggestions, particularly in how I learn more effectively.

Here is the first batch, created around last august.

Hello esukuta and welcome to the site you made a great start with your sketches, you seem to have a good all round understanding, all you need is to practice, practice practice.

Drawing is definitely the best way to start, starting with the foundations like shape, light and shadow, anatomy and perspective. This site can be a bit confusing but there are some real gems of information in this section .. http://conceptart.org/forums/forumdi...hp?7-FINE-ARTS. Hopefully that can help you with your learning.

Thanks for the comment. Currently I try to spend as much time as possible in these fundamentals. Especially the anatomy is incredible hard, there are million of things to do wrong. However, here is some more stuff I did last year.

And a speedpaint (1 hour) of a photo i have taken in ireland. Looks somehow pale, have to work on contrasts.

I am currently in the mood of doing a lot of these speedpaints from reference, its big fun. The strange thing is, that often realize the dullness long after i have finished the work.

I stopped this Rembrandt copy after 60 minutes. The table floats magically through the air.

Still life also in 1 hour, painted from real fruits. I am not sure if i should spend more time to get better result or try to stay with short runs. Again not happy with the colors.

Today i mainly did some figures from imagination. Probably I should spend more time with anatomic accuracy than with values at this point. A lot of work to do...

No updates for a couple of days because i got really much stuff to do.

I Figured out that I did these quick poses in a wrong way. I focused more on the contour lines than on the gesture. I'll Try to do it better in the future.

Hey Esukuta. Glad to see you made a SB. I like the fact you are studying hard. Keep it up, if I have any crit, it is study the planes of the face (and figure) I think it will really help with both your construction and light.
It's not who I am underneath, but what I DO that defines me
