This makes me wonder why I hadn't joined CA such a long time ago. x_X!!!
This thread is awesome, and all of those links in the introduction just taught me a whole world about colors and light and ... everything else, that I didn't even know x.x
Too bad I can't sit around all day and do the exercises today, but you'll be seeing more of me!

    Quick render:

    My version:

The yellow block dimension got a little skewed. So did the green block. The shine on the floor for the pink and yellow needed to be a little stronger too...

The shadow on the floor close to the bottom was harder than I thought it would be. I seem to be having technically difficulties controlling a shadows edge-- getting it to go from sharp contrast to a gradual blend.

Sorry for not being active here guys - I've been busy and uhh out of steam. I'm really impressed with the results you guys have posted, I wish there were more hours in the day so I could reply to everyone and that I didn't have bills to pay and ramen to eat, and that I had a moogle who could create money and yummy food.

    Anyways - big news:
Peer Project Volume Two has launched:

    Hey Gisaiagami;
I'm not exactly keeping up with this thread anymore, I've moved on to the second version found here.

    Peer Project Volume Two
    http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=76955

The exercise you just did however is pretty much the same as exercise two over there so go ahead and post it up. Cheers.

What do you mean? On a specific exercise or just in general?

Last night I found this great link site here on CA. I read a couple of tutorials on color theory, probably the ones by Ron Lemen mentioned above. He talked about chroma and the color wheel. There also were alot of other tutorials on light, value, perspective etc. However today I am to my extreme annoyance not able to find this page with the links again. Can anyone help me? I think this was the link. It is actually situated in the beginning of this thread but it doesn`t work

How do you add details to things when painting in PS without losing detail and making it blur, but not looking out of place?

For example the contours of a muscle on the arm or folds in clothes, also if the line drawing you are using is shaded as well, would you remove it from the finished image, or would you use it on another layer, altering the settings to something like multiply or soft light for the details?

    Thanks

Night- That's a bit of a word puzzle mate, how do you add details without losing detail? I think, what you are talking about is having more detail around the focal point - yet at the same time having enough detail on things outside the focal point that it reads well. Try this, paint what you see with your eyes squinted a little bit. Detail is just icing on the cake - all you need is proper shapes and color.

For your second question - I would paint over your linework. I would perhaps have a rough guide done in multiply if I didn't already have that with pencil shading.

    Now - Please direct any further questions to Vol2 of this thread;

Ugh didn't notice I wrote it like a 4 year old.

What I meant to say was, details like folds in a shirt, veins on an arm, different parts of a mech, without making them look out of place or blending them so much, but I see that people just use the line drawing already and set it to mutliply on a different layer so you can see such things coming through the paint.

What if your drawing is already shaded and such, you would have to add every detail and colour yourself, and remove the layer of the shaded drawing, otherwise it won't look right, right?

I made a post at the Colouring Book Vol. 2, thought I already did at the other Project one. I'll make a post there now with some examples from the colouring book.

    Thanks.

I don't know why I did it this way, I just went with my gut.

Looks like a sandstorm came to the land of the regular polygons, and wiped all the people and windows away. Also it is sunny. Or something.

Ok, I just found this thread I definately join in.
I started with the apple. Well, its half past one in the morning and I just thought about something fresh.

And HELL ! I it was worth spending a night hour for it. I think you helped me a lot with this brush thread. I was caught up in a state where my ps pictures looked so clean and lifeless and now I finally know why !
    Thx,thx thx.

    Ok, before I forget it:
The typo wasnt necessary, but I just felt like it. Was fun to paint.

    I did #2! Ahh!!! Fun.

    What I Learned, Foo!
#1: I like the Polygon Tool.
#2: Everyone already did this and it's easier to do it when you have seen how it is done.
#3: I like some of these colors.
    #4: I suck at colors.
#5: Is everyone of these a joke?
    #6: This was fun.
#7: I'll be locked in my office if I don't post soon.
#8: I liked doing this, but is using SketchUp like cheating?
#9: I didn't make blur effects like Tom Tom. :/
    #10: Polygon Tool rules? Yay.

I had fun. Moar I will do!

Here's my exercise 1, I think I did alright on it. I could use cleaner lines... But my lines tend to be a bit sloppy sometimes. And I'm newish with digital painting... so yeah...

I was way off, I'm finding it hard to make the bright point on the color version.
