Hey man!
I'm really digging the charcoal studies, i tried it once but it was very difficult for me. I would really want to see you explore the world of color.
Push the values of your graphite pieces so they really stick out, they can look a little pale after they are scanned.
Keep on moving!

OKi doki!! i got a tablet \o/\o/
So, i'm still a bit lost with brushes, shortcuts and all the rest, so i guess in a week or so i should handle it better.
here are the first two pics i did with it. The first one...hummm .......i thnk it's from leonardo.
The second one is from a photo, trying to understand more the colors transitions and the feel of the pen.
The rest are just doodles and a copy of Caravagio's "St Paul's conversion".
I also created a new account, was kindof tired by the other one's nickname.
I might also make a new sb, since from now on i'll expand a bit more my subjects and approaches.
See you soon!

Awesome rendering man. You've improved a truckload. Your pencil lines are really nice and smooth, and the values really hit the spot.

I think once you get the hang of the tablet those colors will rock. The photo one is looking good, you may want to try using bigger brushes since you can lay an entire value in one stroke instead of hatching. Though hatching can work too... especially for making up the value with a variety of colors for that more natural look.
looks like you are heading for the three points one left one right and one above I think if you apply this to your images there is a lot you can do. keep on drawing it looks like the images are flowing well.. keep the perspectives going.. maybe five point perspective is possible but I have never gone and done things like that you know five points on each point of a five sided polygon and then the idea would be to draw with the ends tapering off to those five points I sorta like the infinite number perspective of course I guess that is RL and not actually draw-able...well maybe ...
Can't wait to see the things you do playing with the tablet, but I also hope this doesn't mean the end of getting to see your pencils and charcoals.
Any further news about the move to AZ?
And excuse me while I hijack your thread for a moment (sorry):
I love drawing in four-point, five-point, and especially six-point perspective. I wrote chapters on how to draw in four and five point perspective in my perspective book coming out from Impact Books next summer -- keep an eye out for it, you might enjoy it. jeez...DanielC is REcursive End?!
dude, thanks for the visit in my SB then, i wish i was hald as good as you with rendering...i just don't have the patience. But my fav pics are the strong contrast ones (charcoal i guess), like the post 801 ones (the man and the face) great sense of anatmy, expression and composition.
I wish i could see a COMPLETE character design from you
keep em comin!
ciao
haha - lmao at that irritated drawing. Know exactly how you feel, later those marks just don;t come out no matter how you erase. I'm really liking the two rendered figures on that page though - very unique, love it when such attention is payed to character rather than flashy armour and huge muscles and missiles.
That's an awesome start to your digitals, like Meatsworthy said, start out with some really big brushes and only go smaller where you really need to.
You're shaping up really well Daniel, can't wait to see more! So my only crit is post more! ciao!

FUCK. Holy shit you are gonna be fucking HUGE my friend.
I gotta remember DanielC = Recursive!
Good stuff dude, let me try answer your question in my sb (my turn, hehe). Texture isn't really important in paintings as much as edges are. I mainly use texture brushes to soften edges or for highlights on rough surfaces. Think of a textured brush like a bunch of hatching that can be applied in one stroke.
If you get your values right, any wierd shaped brush will work. Using the biggest brush from the start helps things go faster since values can be tested with one big stroke and changed quickly. You might paint over the drawing but you can recover it when rendering the forms more precisely. After blocking out values comes the hatching strokes/textured brushes for edges and rendering.
That's how I go about it anyway, I will also recommend trying out many different approaches and take what you like.
Hey Daniel! Man you are churning them out! I'm really liking the lot of them, you seem to be getting the hang of your tablet very quickly - a lot quicker than I did.
I'm seconding MW - try everything out. I'm in the process of doing that now, lots of different styles and the like. When you are more comfortable with PS's brushes, I also recommend downloading Barontieri's and m@'s brushes, just to add some more flavour.
You are coming along very quickly, enjoy man!

Marco: lol i dunno, i'll just do what i like best: drawing =)
Meats: thank you very much for the explanation!! So, textured brush would here be a gain of time..? :> ..i'll keep trying different methods, but hatching keeps on coming back which keeps me from using big brushes and doing the first values with hatching. I really need to chage my habits. Thanks alot anywayOh and about the name... i'll start a new sb anytime soon.
D: Hey!! thanks for the info. i'll look for those asap!!
ok! just a quick doodle before bed...1:45 am here...i'm gonna be like a zombie tomorrow :/

Ooh, nice ones!
Yes, there is some time gain, but I think it's more about saying more with less. I say it's like a bunch of hatching also because you can hatch to make soft edges in shadow (maybe it's a bad comparison because my hatching is not goodOriginally Posted by DanielC
).
After doing a lot of drawing I start hatching in paint too... I haven't really figured it out either. Find the middle ground, try a paint by hatching, or learn to shift mindset efforlessly? I don't know... but I'll be watching closely to see your approach develop.
hey daniel, new username i see. how r things going? nothing to say but have fun with the tablet, you rock. cheers C
those painted torsos are particularly awesome.
w00h00! you got a wacom... and i dont know what it is, but people who get wacoms for the first time are so enthusiastic about painting digitally that they motivate me like crazy. keep at it and never stop this constant stream of sweetness... and dont be discouraged when people put down your images and same goes for when people give your images good critiques... keep at it until YOU enjoy it... because if you didn't enjoy it, then there's no reason to do it but for work... and we all know we dont want art to be work, we want it to be a part of us in this world. we want to make a mark.
lovely stuff mate, cheers!

Thanks again for dropping by !!
See you guys in the new sb.
Hey there,
Woah, there are some really good drawings here. It was interesting seeing your first pieces in the sketchbook and now seeing what you do now. You got a good grasp on anatomy it looks like.
Personally I reckon your stuffs look cooler when your strokes are just a bit thicker like the ones you did in these two.

Of course that may just be because you zoomed in more on these two pics.
