Not so much an angel of death...

Started out how I wanted...but ended up not really being much of an 'Angel of Death'....

Anyhoo, here's my stab at it.

    35 mins Photoshop

EDIT: Added a couple sharpens on at the end to crispen it up a bit.
    daily sketchbook

You need to do more anatomy...and check your values....wait...did I just say that?

probably wouldn't be a Seraph, not sure, but thoing the 8-winged thing just happened and led to hooking in the hourglass angle.

45 minutes for the sketch and an extra 20 for the color.

Tey, I like your guy, he's very cool.
Osmus, I like the pose, but whats with the crazy-afro looking thing?

Anyway, for those interested: pencil sketch, inked, scanned, colored in PS7, lazy on the BG

PS: anyone interested I put the lineart on coloring book?

Baaaaah, really cool. I was originally thinking of a curvy scythe for my Angel, as well.

    updated sketch with reaping blades/sigil.

hey guys. this is the angel who take you to heaven or hell...so i guess it isn't THE death angel (just an angel in the "department" of death). her wings are the souls she is taking to heaven or hell. she is dropping off the bad sould at hell in the picture.

I was going for a kind of non-human looking angel of death without going so far as to make it alien. Also, his eyeless head hopefully evokes the idea of a skull without actually being skull-like.

    angel of death

hello, i am not sure how long it took, a couple of hours i suppose. had fun working on it. I encorperated aspects of the raven in the design (ie. feathers and a hard to make out raven skull on the neck piece). I'll continue working on the colors later, but since it is a sketch i wanted to put it up before went into detail on the painting.

Here's mine... couldn't resist a topic like this. I decided to use a fairly classical pose and figure. My idea behind her is that she lights a candle in her lantern when she is coming for somebody's soul. Only that person can see her candle lit, but eveyone else can see her. She carries a heavy executioner's sword, weighted on the end for leverage. And no, running does not cheat death.

45 minute drawing, scanned and overlayed onto a midtone in PS-CS.

Does anyone else miss when DSG was in the chat room, and we only had an hour and a half for the image?

I think people could push the ideas here a little more. Here you have "Angel of Death". It's about the most badass subject you could ever hope for... and I'm not saying mine is the end all be all of everything, I was just trying to give you something different... while still darwing a beautiful girl of course (gotta keep my priorities in check). 75% of entertainment is idea... you can be a so-so artist, but still create badass projects. Look at LotR! The art of books for the films aren't all that impressive for the most part, but it was the ideas behind everything that drove the project. I'm willing to bet money that everyone working totally digital is hurting many people's ability to learn from this process. I love digital, but you HAVE to learn the fundamentals first. You sometimes have to limit yourself to get the most out of something. Of course, these are just suggestions. Above all though, PUSH YOUR IDEAS!!

teyekanik, trevor, billb and MikeCorriero, nice concepts! Learn from these guys, and stay away from filters and cliches. Keep up the hard work everyone! Hopefully I'll be able to join you all in here more often now. But we'll see what work allows for. Peace all!

Mike, thanks for the crit. I don't draw anywhere near as much as I'd like to, and I'm trying to change that. He was drawn with reference photos (bodybuilders are the only male references I can find, I'm going to go check out that thread you mentioned) but none were in that pose. I know he needs to be more dynamic, but I was trying to attempt some musculature because my usual characters tend to look like they're made of tubes.

Trev, I love the cross jabbed through him, it looks a little unbalanced though, its too rear heavy and sort've looks like it would fall out. Definitely feels awkward, which is a good feeling for a giant piece of metal through your chest...but it doesn't feel like it's in there solid enough.

Billb, cool concept and nice colors. It's got a wonderfully dark feel. I like the book, too. He doesn't come off as very angelic, but pulls off death pretty effectively

Swank, cool concept, he looks pretty menacing...until I get to his face. he seems a little too compassionate for blades and horns. Also, his wings seem a little small. Either larger, more powerful looking wings, or smaller, more frail vestigal wings would work better, I think. Right now they're too large to be hints of wings and too small to be powerful wings.

Mike, nice concept, hope to see the wings finished as the rest is looking really good. I like the contrast it has to most of the other angels here...it's less menacing and demonized, but still somber.

There's a lot of cool stuff here, good jobs guys!

Mikecorriero- Yep I know, I'd just got into work and had 25 minites spare. It was more of a 'lets just do a doodle' than a 'find ref and do something really cool' I've started doing the DSG in the morning to get my creative juices flowing. But yes...I should spend more time in prep before I go into it. I think though as a morning doodle I quite like it being loose and 'lets just start scribbling and see what comes out'. purely because at that time of a morning I can barely see straight let alone gather resources

Yep...good point though, well pointed out.

    Hi everyone,

I just came across the DSG and was inspired to participate!

    [IMG][/IMG]

It's graphite and took an hour or so... I think.

    Phuzion, love the Boticelli look!
Some very nice ideas posted here.

    Thanks,

And I like your thinking Phuzion, but why does your angel have the peace sign on her face?
