I really dig the blocking out, there's a real classical look to the painting yet you put your own new twist to the style, it's really unique. You've got such an elegant and beautiful way of using color and textures,I really admire that. I hope one day to be able to pull off some of the stuff you do. So if I ask for more again will I get it? lol

hey thanks for the replies guys!
Xpose,Aether, flaptraps,Boom, Eyal ,fukifino, Pencilator,Asoir, poise, strych9ine, tensai, flatliner, thirdeye, liquidwerx, dCepT, p4b10, cotron, rodrigo!, Prehistoric, my deepest thanks!

riq: you knwo it man. im old school like that

the black frog: shiiiit...these suck compared to what u posted

chumps: hey thanks for the crits! the pixelation i am happy with. as with everything, it could be better, but considering i did it freehand without any taping or straight edge im happy with it.
the art nouveau things i wanted to pop and feel totally graphical, kind of a ying to the organic sculptural yang of the more rendered stuff.

the hard edges, hmmm, i just wanted to accentuate the contours some, and the more i think about it edges only really soften out around forms on richard schmid paintings, not in real life. i just wanted to change it up, no reason to repeat what i know endlessly.

i dont use the unsharp mask, but when i resize things i use bicubic sharper, which does kinda do that, ill watch that shit in the future

Main Loop: we got there around 8-ish cuz my gulr always takes so long to get ready next time my friend. glad you liked the shit, i had fun making it

blog: i use soft brushes and lotsa patience

Oblio: shit man i miss ya too!

Dan Milligan: miss you dude! lets have our own "private" workshop sometime soon. we can disrobe and draw eachother in sensual positions, or make pottery ala ghost....ill put on the everly brothers and whatever happens happens...

steak-tron: HEEEEYY HOOOO HABEN GLOBBEN SCHWANZ!!!

Carnifex: damn thats dark dude...but crazier things have happened

Pichuerca: yesi have stopped working in my books for the time being, concetrating on other things. art is a big world so much to explore...

Marko Djurdjevic: fukkin i miss you dude! hurry your hairy ass back to the bay babay.

so here is a mural we did this weekend. we started it yesterday, and finished it up today. i painted the bob marley head, helped lay out the wall, and painted all the droplets. the letters were done by buter, kebs, and skew. this was the first mural i have done in over a year, and we had a great time doin it. i really want to get back into this shit a bit more...-c36

Great show dude. Everything there was fresh, but the colors were what really knocked me flat in person. The sketches were mighty impressive too. You've got so much technique that it slowly oozes out your ass... uh...that was technique, right?

    Congrats.

Y'know what kills me about this frickin site?? When I found it, I swear, the level of the art was higher than anything else I'd found on the net. Since that time, I've made massive strides in my work and occasionally kid myself that I'm getting pretty good.

    Then this.

    Sigh.

Look, will you lot just stop for a couple years and give me a chance to catch up??

But seriously, this stuff is fuckin terrific. Thanks for sharing.

Awesome stuff El Coro. I love it all, but especially the portraits of your girlfriend, they are truly awesome. I envy you for doing so much with traditional mediums, ...while I'm stuck here doing all the digital "shortcuts" to finish up all my work and the tight deadlines
How often are you doing oil when doing commersial work ( I mean not ordered art or personal)

I'd like to take all the people that think graffiti isn't art and walk them by that wall. Thank you for sharing, I would never in my life seen that if you hadn't posted it here, and that would be a crying shame. Hell yes.

Oh man, I love the oils. I see the Close influence and maybe some Vasarely? The very first image posted, I love the narrow depth of field with what, at this size, look like some razor sharp details. What are the dimensions on the oils? The second piece has a great palette and the directional brush strokes really make me want to see the original. On the fourth image, did you paint with knives or is it all brushes. Did you do something to pre-visualize the piece or construct it as you painted it? It reads incredibly well. You really hit those temperatures on the left side, the cool pinks are right on.

On the carburetor piece, which is beautiful, are the flourishes purely design, or do they allude to something more? They carry so much weight in the painting.

The "Oh no" painting... it reminds me of.. well.. and then... woke up with the shakes... sweating... took one of those sporks from KFC and... wow.

What can I say about the Octo painting. It is brilliant. So fun. Again, I love the muted palette.

The mural is awesome. Where is it? Next time I am in the area, I would love to drive by and see it. For that matter, if you don't have a show going, I would love to impose and stop by to see some originals.

Your artwork has a wonderfully modern voice to it, without sacrificing skill and technique. You make me happy.

oh, these portraits and the picture with the octopussys and the fat woman are so glorious!

your painting style combines modern art-crazy-cism and traditional skill in a way which is so inspiring to me...

you re a "new old master", dude.

btw. this mosaic-effect on the heads, is that inspired by someone calling himself "daim"? he is a german graffiti-artist who did a writing in that mosaic-style in, let me guess, 1995 i think...(hey, thats not a piss-on, i just wanna get some attention to the imho to much ignored graffiti-scene )

    rock on!

k guys lemmme see if i can reply to all these...

Punchy: thanks sweetheart. hope everything is going well wif ya!

StylesDavis: thanks man. while daim definitely inspires me, the pixelated paintings were the result of my texturing days, and a wanting to bring some of that to canvas.

vigostar: thats my graf wars piece.;P its real graf too!

JoshuaTheJames: me too man. thats why im so into painting murals still. there is somehting so direct about it, nawmean?

    lyon: thanks so much howard.
the big portraits are all 4x6 feet, and yes i made them in photoshop, then painted the reference. i love closes stuff, these were definitley inspired by him and helnwein. on the carbourator piece and the gasmask, ect , i wanted to juxtapoze gritty subject matter with dacorative elements, kind of a ying and yang type thing. the mural is down on haight street, haight and central, where the old bob marley mural used to be. if you are ever in the area, drop us a line!

cotron: all montana baby! you have no idea how hard it was to keep the guys from dropping a purple or green into that shit. i just kept telling them "less is more! just paint it and we'll see if it needs it at the end" haha.

Denart: you are tyoo nice man. i just work alot. i work all day, come home, and work all night. oh and weekends too. i like making art, thats all

Books: damn right dude! thanks alot

    dadamafia:

WARHEAD, Onir : all spraypaint. though the specualr highlights on the droplets are white spraypaint, applied to my index finger, then dotted on.

Joachim: thanks man. dude for my illustration work, im all digital. im a photoshop guy. unfortunately, i can never show any of that stuff cuz its all nda'd. but im a digital too , i just use traditional media on personal work.

dirty_c: thanks dood. dont worry, just keep pushin man!

    PHATandy: thanks man

Xpose, flaptraps, arghmisfit, Profil, DStevens, Rash Overdrive, stille, liam.c, Dan.v.D., DANKA, liquidwerx : thanks a ton you guys. your kind words really mean a lot to me

steak-tron: thanks senator. glad you are here with me, in the citay by the bay-e-ay-e ay..ohhh-oh-oh-oh oh oh!!!!

    DANKA: thats not technique...GAAAAHHHH!

el coro: shut the fuck up you long winded bastard!-c36
