hey sve.
i was looking at your underwater study, and i thought of a few subjective changes i would like to make. The woman's skin tone is very washed out and rather dead looking, and I understand that this is probably more realistic. However, the beauty of art is the ability to manipulate color and make it do what you want to, without the constraints of realism necessarily. With the blue-green darkness of the water surrounding the woman, I thought to myself that a more complimentary color scheme could work out and really make the figure stand apart and seem perhaps more "healthy."
I also changed the face a bit, to try and highlight the planes of the face and give it more form. Sometimes it's easy to become a slave to your reference, but sometimes it's better to just pull from previous knowledge and simplify things. I simplified the hair into about three basic values and pushed and pulled some hair in space with different tones and highlights. I failed to make the teeth work... I always have trouble with teeth. I need to do some more skull studies.
I also changed around the breasts, because they did not seem to me that they were attached to the rib cage, but were completely floating apart from the body,. I'm not satisfied with my changes in that regard, because they still feel rather unresolved to me. Either way, it's a good study, and you have a wealth of detail in it, which made my paintover very, very easy.

Hi there! Just wanted to say I really like your fruit studies. = ) (and your 7 year old's work, as well of course!) I hope to stop by later and spend more time browsing your work.
Have a nice day!

Nice batch of work on that last post of yours. The horse, under water study, and Charcoal are very nice. the presicion of your anatomy studies impresses me. I have a hard time drawing the same image over like that and tend to use a lightbox for it. The digital work is very hard but the horse and rider looks like it can be a good image.

Hi svetta!
I saw Mr.Blonde's paintover and I have to say that I disagree with him.
The colours were very good in you version, and the face in the paintover scares meSo I had to do a paintover by myself and I don't wanted to change the style or something, I just changed some things I told you already, no big thing but it was much fun. You did a great job

amazing!!!!
These look like the kind of drawings that you see that identify criminal suspects here in the united states... Very good, clean interpretations! though the anatomy seems a little off in the nose on this one!
thanks for the update--keep up the great work!
joel
Wow, updates
Hello svetta! Good to see some new stuff from you. Nice to hear that you like my overpaint.
You repainted version looks good, the face is more clear and looks very nice. Do you use photoshop for your digitals?
Some good face studies, clear lines and I agree with guggemaneuver about the nose but not in the second one...I think it looks a bit off in the first picture.
And the last picture is just AMAZING! I love itVery clean, lovely colors and it doesn't look digital. I'm corious how fast you push up your skills, just great.
I'm looking forward for new art![]()
lovely work, as you know i love the madame popadour painting.
Thank you for the sketches you did of me.
Cheers and see you soon
Really great update Sve. Aint fair you got rated down to 4stars. Your study's realy amazing. Doesn't look digital at all. More like it was done in pastel. Do not actually have to crit anything, except that eyes slightly are looking different directions. And more obvius (but a matter of taste) is, that I don't get what it is that she's sitting on, where's the floor and where the background.
Don't listen to Guggen, on the nose issue. Nose doesn't bother me.
Nice head studies overall.
Concerning underwater pic., I understand why you're getting frustrated about it. Perhaps you should leave it as it is and maybe come back to the subjekt some time later. I actually like Blog's paintover.
Well, 've got to go.
See ya.
Fair, fair, blacky, should go lower, I always felt bad about those stars. Look how many great artists on the forum have no stars or strangely for me not a lot stars. And here was I with 5 stars, that was ridiculous, I like the new changes![]()
Sveta
Sve... my dear god.. that's absolutely beautiful...awsome studies.. it's looking superb. Oh and love christie's drawings, hehe how's she doing?
Hope to see more, cheers!
amazing update sve!!!! I really like Madam Pompadour a lot. At first glimp I actually didn't thought it was digital. I really like the fact that, even though it's a study, you've succesfully changed the color scheme, giving the painting a totally new identity
the two faces, I think they have some of childhood into there faces. Somehow you've managed to give them some look as if they are child again, really can't describe it very well...
the repainted painting looks good also
once again the updates are more then great.
yours sincerely,
haldor![]()
Oh my god Sve that last digital study just made my jaw drop. there is drool all over my keyboard.
I like how you went back and worked over that underwater study. Taking out the dark area behind her worked very well and I prefer it better this way.
And thank you for the kind words.

First of, say hello to Christie from me and tell her to keep postingCuz your sb is unique.
And just so you know it, you really suprised me with those last colored pices. Top-notch.
Btw, where is those muscle studies from, love that back. I'm really fascinated by the muscle's of the back, they are so compact.
Take care.
Hugs!
sve - I love looking through your SB. That last digital study of the French artist is really nice. I was just at The Art Institute of Chicago on Friday and they have a special exhibit right now of an amazing French artist named Anne-Louis Girodet de Roussy-Trioson

Hi, Sveta.
Sorry for replying so late to a such good update, hope you'll forgive me. The last one is great, but if I can made a tiny crit: it's "MadamE de Pompadour", with a "e" after "madam", "de" is due to the fact she's noble. My poor tiny french heart is bleeding after such mistakes.
Your friend,
Julien.

Hello, dear friends.
Wake up, I wanna share my bad art with you, dear buddies.
Joel, my nicest friend, hehehehe, this person is among us, he is alive and strong and I think you got a new friend after the sincere comment
. Agree about nose though, totally.
Gun!!!, Love it when you are around! Thanks, I had a lot of my years wasted with PS before though. Yeah, I'm using a photoshop7. I wish you showed my how you did this wonderful light play on the face and body drowned girl. Agree about the other nose too all the same, heheheh. I'm so agreeable about my art, it's funny!!!!.
hey, Diego, thank you so much, for helping me and giving me your great advice, and for singing on Internet with me.
Oh, blacky , why you always had to go somewhere. Let's sit and talk some more. We can talk about strange sides of your art teacher here, in my thread endlessly. We will can call him Mr. Blacky's Art Teacher for conspiracy. Thank you sp much for the kind words, you are so nice. Yeah, should've gone all the way and painted the couch she sat on, well, next time maybe. Agree about her right eye, thank you, didn't noticed this.
Hello, my dear buddy, Min, glad to hear from you, you stopped updating. How so? Please do. Thank you for the nice words and for being my friend. I'm glad that I met you here.
Hey, Haldor. How come I'm not your friend? That's impossible. I am!!!
. You know the owner of the face I drew said the same thing, he looks like a child there. Isn't it funny?
I should've done the neck thicker, it would help some, I think. About colors in Madam, no, they are from the image on the Internet, you just saw the one with wrong colors, I think, Thank you so much.
Hey, Ben, Thank you very, very much, for saying all these nice words. You are way too kind, but I'm glad.
Hugs, Pencilator. I'm a better hugger than you!!!! I can change the form of your neck after my hugging. Jealous?Thank you very much, and from Christie too, I'll think what I can do
.
Hey, Chris, thank you again for wonderful portrait of me, the expression is wonderful, very vivid. Thanks for stopping by, for your kindness and for the link. I wish I could go too to this show. Link is very interesting, the images are too small to appreciate the painting without struggling, through.
Hey, :Julien, hehehe, yeah, I might end up doing just that. What do I need to invent the wheel every time over and over again, the life could be so much easier. Thanks and I did what you told me

I like how you painted the woman. You put your colors through lines something like in your pomegranate. Both of them are very nice . The first is somehow more beautiful to me.

Wow ! Sveta, sweet friend, your last updates amazed me ! I second heartbeat about the woman, both are cool and I like the first one alot (don't know why exactly). Nice stuff, my friend.

lovely and lively animal portraits, Sveta, excellent use of textural tone hatching, they capture the nature of each very well. and the Kurdish woman is so beautiful -- the first i like more because it seems more a portrait of the person, the second more a costume study, but both are really fine, the subtle gesture of hands and glance is very strong!
note to myself: must take the time to look over Sve's entire thread.

Dear svetta, very nice updates. The animal studies are very well done, good inkwork.Cute squirrel
The didigtal painting looks good, is it finally finished? Maybe add some structure for the background but the colors are very nice.
I see we use the same programI'll try to explain you the process for the lightning in the overpaint: First I made a layer on wich I colored some oparts of the body in a green "waterlooking" color, than I turned the layer option to "strong light" (don't know if that's the same name as in the english version...maybe it's "hard light")
After that I created another layer above the other ones on which I painted soome curves and lines with white color, maybe use a blury brush for this, than I turned the layer option to (don't know the english name but I try to translate) "Copy together".
To at a light white shine, create a new layer, take an airbrush tool with soft edges. Paint around the figure (I used white for this) than turn the layer option to "soft light" and it's finished.
You can create great effects by working with layer options, sometimes you have to try different variations to find the best. Hope I could help^^
Keep it up![]()
do you hire models or do you like sneak up on naked people when they're sleeping or not looking ;P ... or: do you sketch these from memory, if so they are truly amazing dude nice work!
my WeBLOG & Portfolio, enjoy!!
Hey Sveta. Your last update's realy fantastic.
I have to thank you a lot on your crit at my sb.
Those animalstudies look realy well executed, clear and nice. Onlything to crit might be, that you might have embedded papparot into some kind of enviro as you did with last penstudy. Specialy like how you modelled the fur.
kurdish woman looks nice too. I'm a fan of oldfashioned fashion. Her dress reminds me of ukranian traditional dreeses too. You seem to have gotten better on skintones in digital medium on that one too. Although they look too similar to background. And background's as flat as a piece of paper can be, so it looks a bit nonnatural to me. Might be better if you made background dissappear into the depth or something. Guess a couple of greish strokes on bg should do the trick. (In my oppinion.) I like the mood of the piece though although I don't see too well what it is that she's doing.
Concerning "Mr. Blacky's Art Teacher"...he's a nice guy. (Although damn expensive, have to pay 20$ per 1.5h from own money (parents aint paying no more) I'll go to his class on Wensday and should have a new stillife (booooooring) freshly posted by Thursday. He's constantly smoking on a pipe and knows more about art than any other person I've met ever before. Haven't met too many proffesionals yet though. I see I'm driffting towards topics of own interest IN YOUR THREAD.........oh, well, you were the one who wanted me to have a chitchat
SO.......I'll probably start a new topic in my artclass at scool. It had to be something about books and we'll get a 30x30In board to present it. I'll most probably do something around the topic of Requiem. It'll consist of one major picture and probably some minor ones to illustrate what I mean. Will be listening to Mozards Requiem and soundrack of Requiem For A Dream on repeat. But before all that, I'll have a vacation in Greece (Yay!!!) Have I told you about it yet? I'll spend 2 weeks in Greece with a group of russianspeeking people. Most of em wil be kiddies. Some Adults and a tourguide who's hell-experienced (has been to more countries than I know the names of) and whom I greatly respect. We'll be visiting ancient locations and eventually I'll get the chance to visit some museums too. More about it, once I'll be back (can't wait to go).....Well, thats about all the news I've got for you, dear Sveta. I don't have to run anywhere right now but I'm at work, and although I'm not realy busy, I feel like saying good buye right now as I had initially promised myself not to enter the realm of Ca.org today at, since I felt like I needed some studies to be done real badly. My English starts to sound real weird by now and I do not want to spam your thread with offtopic junk no more. So........
So long......
So you think you're a better hugger than me. I challenge you with my l33t hugging skillz!
(as long as you're not a russian wrestler)
By the way, I might as well take a look at your new art while I'm here
Where are those animalstudies from? Love the squrriels.
Soo... that's a kurd women... yeah right! I know they're green and have long ears, don't you try to fool me.
Super-mega-lazy-hug-of-doom!
Wow, your lines have the flowing confidence of someone who isn't desparately trying to improve or impress, and your palette choices have a similar confidence and subtelty.
Great stuff
keep 'em coming!
