    XpRnz's Sketchbook

Hi there! My name is Tim, i am 26 years old and currently an art student in Amsterdam. This is my first sketchbook over here, i hope you enjoy it.

My main focus lately is drawing the human body, mostly analog but i'm also slowly starting to develop myself digitally. Most of my stuff is in black&white but i am moving on to color in the forthcoming time.

The tools i use are mainly graphite (mech. pencil, etc), charcoal and ink pens. This year i also started off with painting in oils at school.

Well, that's it for the introduction, i'm just hoping to have a good time here and share my stuff with the rest of you. I thought i'd start off with some of my hatching/anatomy studies from last summer followed by some of my imaginative fantasy related works. (More on the next post)

    Enjoy!

    Hatching/Anatomy studies

These are some of my studies from the past time where i am working out hatching and studying anatomy, mostly using 2B graphical pencil and sometimes add 7B to increase darks and add more depth to take it a little bit further in detail. For these studies i use 179 g/m2 - 80 lbs Hahnemühle Quattro paper for increased grip and nice finish. Enjoy!

WOW! you seem really secure with the pencil ( you set the lines where they should be and don't draw over and over it! )!! love your shading and have you tried to draw with a pen ball ped or an edding?? would love to see some of that!

Your hatchings are almost as sexy as the guys in your drawings. Take some pictures of the stuff we do in school.

@ MOB: Occasionally i do some ballpoint stuff, i might do some more in the future and will definitely feature it here

@ Gibi: Thx, no i'm at Wackers Academie, a small private academy that still uses the classical approach to drawing and painting. Where are u at? Age doesn't make a difference, practice does!

    @ Axelga: Stones ftw!

    Imaginative/Fantasy

As said in my first post i will post some of my imaginative/fantasy works below.

01.) The first one is called the 'Power Flower' and is sort of a decrepit psychedelic revision of the Piranha Plant from the Mario games. A4, graphite 5B.

    Name: power_flower - small.jpg
Views: 740
Size: 395.2 KB

02.) The second one is called the 'Paraplant' and is inspired by a photograph of a little bellpepper bush. A4, graphite 5B.

    Name: paraplant - small.jpg
Views: 707
Size: 402.7 KB

03.) The third one is a creature design i did for a school assignment. 50x56 cm graphite 2B - 5B.

    Name: creature_small.jpg
Views: 714
Size: 418.1 KB

04.) The fourth and final one is a big frenzy of everything i could cook up in my head and is called the 'Dragon Bush'. A3, graphite 7B.

@ Gibi: Cool, u into some art academy?

    ------------------------------------------------------------------

Below here is a portrait study (from photo ref). Since i'm just starting in color and photoshop (this is my second attempt) i'm still searching for the right brushes and brushwork that suit me but i'm pleased with the result so far. More in the coming days!

    Update

Finally, another update, i knew i would suck at this as i always tend to. But hey, better late than never.

Here's a photoshop study of an old sneaker, i finally found some brushes i'm comfortable with and don't have to be very precise with while gaining some hints of texture and dirt.

    New stuff

Time for some more digital stuff, first a couple of digipainting studies of some architecture, i wanted to make them quickies but somehow i always turn out putting a few good hours in them, especially the frontal view of the old house with all the details. Nonetheless they turned out ok and i got to try a new brush and ended up with a more 'painted' look that i will explore further. The last one is Marilyn Monroe (obviously) done for fun.

beautiful works, tim. you're already pro with the pencil so you won't have any problems to get on a high level in digital art In fact, your current digi studies look amazing.

Could you post more of those insane pencil studies? Maybe 1 with the original picture next to it? I'm trying to learn hatching and while searching for examples on the forum I found your sketchbook and fell in love with your skill

@Burnme, sure man, i think i know where to find some of the originals, but maybe i'll do some new ones (the other ones are a year old) to give you insight into hatching . Check back in the course of next week! Greetings.

Whoa! I'm impressed with your pencil work.. and the "Dragon Bush"... is friggen awesome. Great job with the figure work also, but I'd watch out for your proportions though especially in this one

Your hatching is really good, your linework is clean and you have good values/contrast.
Don't let the shading be the most important thing tho, watch out for proportions as well, as Erikly pointed out.

You're doing very well, keep it up!

They are over a year old by the way, i will make and post some new ones in the forthcoming time.

    Really nice stuff Tim!
I think it'd be nice if you used your hatching to describe the form of the object, as well as the shadow though. By that I mean make it curve with the form(where applicable) instead of a whole lot of straight lines. I think it'd help with certain areas looking flat. I'm just nitpicking though, you're doing good ㅅㅡㅅ.
