welcome back
well, i guess you won't get a lot of replies because this piece isn't much of a dragon/warrior/zombie/environment/child books/etc. concept. i'm not much into this particular style of surrealism, but i try to comment to the best of my knowledge![]()
technically: you obviously weren't going for realism here, but a bit more variety in the color scheme could brush things up anyway. gather some knowledge about using contrary colours to shape forms, light and shadow.
and maybe your brush-strokes could need some more confidence. you're working very precise and small in detail, but actually there isn't a lot of detail nor texture in the motif. it looks like hard work, but it lacks expression IMO.
i can hardly find words for what i'm trying to say... hope you get what i mean.
composition here is quite simple, so theres nothing that really bothers me.

As I'm not really qualified to offer constructive crits on this style (surreal), I can only offer my impressions. Overall, I like the concept and the figures and find it pleasing to look at. I do think feel that the background is a little drab, and the green hues don't really work with the "dream" motif. (seem kinda ugly)
Other than that, nice work.

no doubt its good. I dont think I would ever draw something like that. Its not my favorite subject but it is great quality.
I like the first one quite a bit. The color, compostion, and paint handling all work together. It's a nice piece of decorative art. The last two just look like Bad Surrealism 101, though; hackneyed, obvious recycling of other artist's symbology.

Well I think the thing is with surreal painting is that there is not much technicality to it....so it really is hard to crit. Although there is still composition, colour and contrast to worry about...it'd be interesting to see forum dedicated to all the different 'ism's of art....
This is neat, but as said kinda seems contrived, but hey at least you are trying...keep at it man...
Actually GOOD surrealism involves quite a bit of Technial expertise, just to go beyond the boundaries of "accepted" representations...
Tavi (or Florescu), I like the Dance very much, as well as your three muses...I have a harder time with "Genetics," possibly because there is too much information intrinsically attached to the piece.
Beautiful technical workmanship, though!

This it’s the big problem for a lot of people, to understand the concept of SURREALISM, to understand the idea behind the image, to go in a philosophical world. It’s very important to analyze each element and to question WHY???Originally Posted by madster
To have a better understand of "THE OPPORTUNITY" I will try a short description, and very close it's "Genetics";
Each element it's a symbol inside of our 3 dimensional perceptions, but all together can transport us in a different dimension.
In our reality represented by the town as a background only the culture will give us the understanding of CREATION. From the painting (see the canvas) burning (fire symbol of energy) the music (the sound as a primordial factor in our creation) born from pure energy (fire) will create a spiritual space. From this space come in our reality the 4th dimension (the hypercube http://www.math.union.edu/~dpvc/math/4D/welcome.html) bringing the DNA. The human shape will create the blue sky (as symbol of life).
Finally all it's possible only thru art!
My apology for my pour English!!!!!
