goddamn! you've really put some great updates here since i last visited! it's nice to see you started to do some anatomy studies, those are allways worth the time. the carrier pic is coming along nicely, just watch out for the contrast on that.

I get out of school Wednesday, but until then I'm pretty busy so I haven't done all that much recently.

    Glikster: Thanks!

Inkfish: Yeah, I've been looking at the picture again and it does need more contrast. I'll have to work with that.

Rodrigo!: Thanks, environmental pics are fun.

With that in mind here's a new moleskine. Half of the left picture was guessed at, so the perspective's a little iffy.

And here's a cyborg zombie. Big nasty hormomally and genetically altered dude that is covered in armor. He does not like the fish.

interesting machinery stuff,,, ive always wanted to draw some construction vehicles in motion and try to understand the basics of how the different parts work together, but i get laughed at when i mention it to certain friends.
cool robot too, that fish is so random, lol.

    Rodrigo: Thanks!

I'll get around to everyone's sketchbooks soon. I don't have much to show now because my scanner isn't hooked up, so it's only digital for now.

    Robin squared

    More cloud work.

and the clouds are looking good so far, just dont over
detail them, they are starting to look a bit to solid,
rember you have to keep their flufiness and spontaneity

Great Moleskin stuff, man! I love those gestural, quick sketches you're doin' in there. Keep at that. Also, that Robin is crackin' me up! Ha! I think you could have pushed the values much further in that tho. I know it's only a sketch tho. The clouds are lookin' nice too tho I think they could be softer. Also, the ones at the top of the image really don't sit well with me. They don't look much like clouds to me. Keep up the great work, Staylor. Your'e doin' great, man!

And finally an update! I've been working to find housing all week so I didn't get much done, but I finally got a place to live and it looks really nice!

maxetormer: Yeah, I'm a bit worried about the clouds. Hopefully these aren't too bad. I've seen some insanely crisp thunderheads before and I was hoping to achieve that look.

Glickster: I like the robin I added some more details to the jet, once again I'm hoping it stands out more.

    Happysoda: thanks!

Zebzfree: Do you mean the thunderheads? I've seen them before and they're pretty ominous and wierd. Is there anything in particular that isn't working?

I did more work on the picture. I'm hoping the clouds are okay but the feedback suggests otherwise. Now that they're more finished is there anything wrong with them? I won't be offended, I'm hoping to really improve this picture.

    And some funky critters.

nice. yea clouds look a little odd. But i could say how to fix them cuz i cant do clouds either. Your Ablility to see 3d form in your creatures is nice.

p.s. the truth is out there.

Hi staylor I did a really quick paintover, so take it with a grain of salt.

-i softened the clouds a bit
-added some sky colours to the metal surfaces facing sky
    -more contrast in the shadows

take what you will from that.

The moleskine stuff looks good, the moster looks cool

the jet looks fantastic i think maybe a few sharper parts will pop it out beautifully. however maybe the clouds could be a bit softer, not so many details everywhere just to go easier on the eye. also with the rain i notice that usually it appears from a distance as a greyish haze over the landscape, you dont really see any lines as such. hope that helps!

Well, it took a while but I'm back!

    Blahm: Thank you!

Inkfish: Thanks for the paintover, I ended up completely redoing the clouds, but I tried to use your advice.

Rodrigo: Thanks! I tried to incorperate your crits into the picture.

I moved to connecticut to work for Pratt & Whitney (makers of fine jet engines) and didn't have internet access for quite some time. I'll get around to commenting on everyone's sketchbooks soon. Work is pretty interesting so far, I'm studying engine stall for the PW2000 engine, same thing as on the 747 and C-17.

Thanks for all the crits on the carrier picture! Here it is, I think it looks better.

Avoiding work #1 I usually scribble stuff out on break or when the computers don't work.

    Avoiding work #2

    Avoiding work #3

Spider cat, why are the sketches always better than the completed picture? I hate when that happens.

    Anatomy

    Jethead sketch

Experiment with clouds, this was a precurser to the improved clouds on the carrier takeoff picture.

Initial work on a new large ink picture (sorry it's so blurry, the file was getting large)

And a new page to the comic.

this one looks great http://www.wpi.edu/~stay1or/sketch/spidercat1.jpg i know how you feel, finished pictures rarely compare to the energy of the sketch. lots of cool stuff here, keep postin the next harrier pic is a big improvement

Not much good stuff now, I don't have much time for anything more than sketches.

Rodrigo: Yeah, sketches are always fun until you actually try to do something with them, then they're not so fun.

More work avoidance! Done on itty bitty papers with pens gathered from various supply cabinets.

    And a speedpaint.

For an engineering student who only wants to take art as a hobby, your stuff is pretty freaking amazing. How do you even find the time to do all that.

I'm an engineering student who wants to do art for a living. You really put me to shame.

You have lots of cool concepts, so keep them coming. I think it's been pointed out before, but you should try to work on your line quality. One smooth stroke, not chicken scratches.

Keep it up! And here's one for the engineers! Cheers!

And the sketches return! Finally got some stuff done, though work is taking up quite a bit of time (it's kinda neat though, I'm making an engine stall detection program and today my little baby went off and crunched through the data and made the purtiest stall line graph, I'm so proud )

Maxetormer: Thanks! Feet and pants are hard.

    Peterlee: Thank you!

Landel: Yeah, it's really hard finding time to get anything done. At school I doodle in class, and I can find time at work to sketch when my program is running (it takes about 15 minutes to get through all the data), but a lot of it is making sure I've always got a pen and paper handy so when I do get free time I can draw. I really wish I could take some real art classes though.

    More work avoidance

What the? An anthropomorphic A-10 Warthog? Because I've drawn nothing but super buff monsters recently and wanted to make a less ripped guy. Drawing fat scares me, it doesn't follow the rules of muscles and bones and kinda goes wherever the heck it wants and is very hard to get right.

    Fixing up the carrier jet

Final inks on the rooftop fight scene. It still needs markers to make it more 3D and defined though.

Okay, I'm totally going to test out the new image hosting service for CA, hopefully it'll be good otherwise I'll just go back to my college hosting account (sometimes a tech school is good for art).

    Dannysketch: Thanks!

Bunch of speedpaints, a moleskine, some skull sketches, and a new comic page.

I do not know how some of you guys sketch people, they fidget around too much!

cool stuff, i like the cat the best seems to have the most energy.

drawing in public is very tough i guess you have to mix your memory in there when they move, just do it as much as you can i guess

Oh gawd I love the image attacher!

    Spade: Thanks!

Rodrigo!: I guess I'll just have to draw more people in public then, I'm still intimidated by it though, I guess that I'll just have to get used to it.

This1: Bwahaha, I love the kitties too.

No kitties in this update, but there are owlmen and sharkmen.

    Heyyy... new art stuffs

Work has been keeping me busy, but I've snuck some art in. Not much stuff for now and I'm hoping to remedy that soon. I've got some things I have to scan in too.

So here's an OC collab with Psychohazard, and some work doodles of Colossus from the X-men and some plane that started out as a Corsair.

that shark soo looks like the TV cartoon streetsharks!!! and that page of sketches is fuckin monumental, you didnt waste any space on that page... and of course the kitten in the corner. The colossus looks pretty good, but he should be a little stronger.
