nice stuff, I thought the girl with the mutated arm was tight
wow gruve,
interesting choice with the two heads. I do think however that the dark side of the face, the characters' / character's left side needs some kind of reflected light however. Uhh, maybe not if the design is leaning more towards a stark lighting kind of style. just a thought.
I really like the organic feel of the background. did you scan some compost. it smells and looks lovely.
that green bitch is hot. ima fan of how your painting style is varied and there are just a few warm areas in there for the kids.
oh, and BTW groover:
SOYLENT GREEN IS PEOPLE!
good stuff.
I like what you do with shadows
Nice pattern in that background Janutron, I dig the design. I don't know about you, but I find it tough as hell to find a balance between practicing design and illustration lately. Just have to combine them both as much as possible now eh...
Awesome stuff, man! The green face rocks!
btw: I saw the Alchemy of Mirrormask (art of) book the other day... holy shit that film is gonna be cool! The Dave McKean-style is shining through in every frame, it seems. Can't wait!
Did you pick up Anansi Boys yet?
peace

awesome janu, I'm digging the swirls. I'm not sure how I missed your new book for so long. I really like that read face a lot, beautiful pallette.

styler - Thanks!
goog - It's people?!?!? The whole time I thought it was babies. Ah well. Thanks!
zeitwolf - Thanks!
strych - Thanks Cody. Yeah I know exactly what you mean. I used to almost concede that my design and illustration would just be separate, but I figured I just wasn't trying hard enough. Making more of an effort to do so these days since I love them both.
dCept - Thanks man! And another thanks for reminding me about Anansi boys! I added it to my amazon wishlist (along with the Alchemy book) right after I read your post so I won't forget.![]()
I haven't seen Mirrormask yet though since it never played anywhere near me! Looks like it comes out on DVD February though, so I won't be waiting too long.
blanks - Thanks Joe. The book is pretty easy to miss since I seem to update it annually
Got to do some life drawing last night after doing any in months. I'm more than slightly rusty...

Yeah... lifedrawings look good, man! Good description of form!

some excellent work you have going here. I really enjoyed looking through everything.

the second figure is nice.... i like the way you've left subtle hints as to what the audience should look at. and, how the hatching breaks up as it gets away from the point of interest. nice dude!
Bojee - Thanks Alan! Those were fun to do although I don't think they're that great. I feel I'm still real awkward doing life drawings with a mechanical pencil, but it was good practice.
dCept - Thanks dude! Got Anansi Boys as a Christmas gift. Now if I can find the time to read!
Grom - Thanks! You're absolutely right about the arms.
Matt Smith - Thanks for visiting!
van - Thanks man! I haven't had big blocks of time to work on anything post worthy but I will keep updating time-willing.
Cody - Thanks bro!
Here's something I started yesterday

Hey, man, I really like those figure studies as well. The way you hatch and leave some of the form undone really makes 'em pleasing to look at. Cody hit it right on the head, great stuff. The newest one is shaping up too. Looks a bit stiff but I'm interested to see how it develops. Keep postin'!!
hey grooooooooov--
i'll give an "amen" on zebz's stiff mention... i like where the atmosphere and environment is at on this piece so far. At this point it's a little hard to tell what that bird is all about. is this guy supposed to be some kind of falconer??? if so, maybe the falcon's cap could be similar in design to that mask.
oh, and the thigh on this one: http://www.flipvertical.com/images/mcnew_021.jpg totally rocks... I had this image in mind during the longer poses at my pre holidays figure sessions.
I hope your cybernetic iron-stomach will arrive by teleport before the dangerous new-years sparks get thrown down. RAWK!

Last one is looking good, man! Can't wait to see where it goes.
Got myself The Alchemy of Mirrormask yesterday, and I instantly picked up a thing for masks.. So the last one vibes with me on that level as well..hehe..
Gonna have to wait for the film to release on DVD before I get to see it... no movie theatre in Norway is gonna show it :/

Zebzfree - Thanks! Yeah, about the hatching I'm still trying to figure out how to do quick life drawings with pencil, so part of that is not having time to do the rendering and stumbling upon something that kinda worked.
goog - Thanks dude! Yeah I'm not sure where the bird dude is going. Yet another one of those doodly things I start without having a definite idea in my head. Well hopefully it comes together.
dCept - Ah sweet. I need to go get that book as well. Thanks man!
Well a combination of being sick and broke means I had time to draw yesterday instead of bathing in alcohol. Here's some new stuff
Something for work. Eerily similar pose...
Some experiments and doodles

wow, last post rock!
loved the pencil sketch!
Keep up your life drawing classes, bet it's good practise. Keep pushing
Tigermilk
This one rocks!
Good update on the guy with the bird as well.. his right (our left) upper arm might need some more definition, though.. The bicep on his other arm if fairly well defined, and his right arm looks a little.. roundish...chubby... something.. when comparedYou're probably getting to it, though, so ignore at will..hehe
Keep 'em coming!

Recursive_End - Thanks! I'll take any crits if you have em
Tigermilk - Thanks!
dCept - Thanks man! It's always interesting what people respond to. I definitely didn't expect that one particular drawing to get singled out. I appreciate it
chumps - damn you steve...
Here's some fairly quick doodly digital stuff. The second image was started by painting over the first.

ah, the mcnewness!
dang this one in particular turned out really nice....
http://www.steadycreative.com/images/mcnew_031.jpg
i particularly like the color pallet with which you are working. the red one, hmm... maybe doesn't seem as convincing from a hypothetical creature anatomy standpoint. just a thought... these seem really very quickly done, so i don't think it's really a problem.
http://www.steadycreative.com/images/mcnew_024.jpg is coming along nicely...
keep up the great work. Oh, and thanks for posting the illustration from yr job....cool to see stuff that you do professionally, even if it isn't concept oriented per se!
cheers,

Awesome new paints and draws ma' man. That figure at the top with all the little hatches is really nice. It seems like yo' graphic design wizardry is showing through with a vengance.
