Nice to see this thread still alive, I enjoyed looking through it already quite some time ago.
Here's my attempt, hoping it will help me with skin tones.
Bouguereau - Head Of A Young Girl (1898)

A Schreyer, not aiming for accuracy.
Jansi that is really good! The picture is really powerful.
I attempted a Sargent master copy yesterday but couldn't even get the basic shape of the face.I will try to sketch it out in pencil and try again, though.
Please stop by my sketchbook and leave me a critique: http://www.conceptart.org/forums/sho...d.php?t=237656
Hi all,
I copied a part of Da Vinci's "Study of Hands". I would like some more master artists/drawings to copy for my drawing class but am having a hard time finding one that I can semi-enjoy copying.
noob here: is there a thread of actual copy the masters assignments? If not, someone should start one. I'd love a weekly tandem post, focusing on various styles and masterworks...
thoughts?

In case you dont know it masters studies week. There are a lot of studies being posted in this thread. Come on and try.
Here are two studies I completed in the past few months. Both are copies of Abram Arkhipovs works.

I like that idea, don't know if something like this is around yet...
A Young Peasant Boy, by Jean-Baptiste Greuze (1763)
A bit older, tried to only use the hard round brush, no smudge or custom brushes.

So here's my latest master copy. It's after Edouard Manet's "The Balcony" (detail), 1868-69, Oil on canvas, Musee d'Orsay.
I used pastel and then a bit of acrylic to blue out the background. I was also interested in Betty Edwards' color assignment that has you using only complementary colors plus black/white. So I tried using mostly green and red for that reason.
Crits? Comments?
PS: can someone help me figure out how to resize my attachment? sryz...

Why don't you just resize it before uploading? I don't know if it is possible afterwards...
Link to original painting by William Clarke Wontner (1916).

I tried to make a copy of "Peter Paul Rubens - Two Satyrs" [with oils].
This is a master study of a work attributed to Jean Jaques de Boissieus A Male Saint (1781). I saw this painting on the Sothebys auction site.
Study of 'The rapture of psyche' by William Bouguereau (1895)
This portrait by Repin appears with all sorts of hues on the web. I don't know which version is closest to the true work as I have never seen it. I copied one of the more vibrant copies. I took about 6 h over this.
How about some Joe Mad?
Hello, it's my 1st post here...I'm new to the Forum.
I've painted these as a practice I found the pictures of the paintings on the internet and downloaded them....at that time I just wanted to look at he pictures didn't give much thought about the names of the painters...when I painted these I wanted to know the names but I couldn't find them...if anyone knows who painted these I would appreciate it very much.
1st one is of an exotic dancer dimensions of the master copy are 10x15cm oil on canvas.
2nd one is a portrait dimensions of the master copy are 8x10cm oil on canvas.

this is a regular old cloth orgy. Obviously its a work in progress, faces need doing and the modeling needs to be tightened up...pretty happy with the overall color/value scheme though

Here is a copy of Arkhipovs 'The Washer Women' I completed a few weeks ago.
JVLs suggestion is a good one re showing the original. You can see how it is supposed to look here.
Oil on board. Approximately 90 x 45 cm.

Well , i see nobody has posted for a while here. Might as well post my Master Studies. I kept them at 40 mins each. I've done 2 each day for the past couple of days except for the first one which isn't part of this batch and the first I stayed longer on it. Probably 2 and a half hours. Going towards a week like with my self-portraits. Hope you like.
