The Chamber Of The Gods - update 12/12

Helloooo conceptart sketchbook community. I've been a long time lurker here, never posted anything. This forum has kind of been my tutor the past few months as I've really started to get serious about drawing. I ordered an Intuos3 6x8 last night, should be here next week... can't wait to dig into it. I draw every day and will try to update as often, but will definately update at least a couple times a week.

I've studied a lot of the sketches here, and imitated lots to try and understand the thought processes that went into making it. You may very well see a drawing in my book that looks kinda like something you posted.... and it very well could be. If that's the case, that means I thought you did a masterful job in creating it and simply had to try it myself. Good ol' concept art artist studies.

Anyway, you guys are awsome and I wouldn't be where I am today (artistically) if it werent for the amazing artists that post here. I can only hope someone out there is helped or inspired by something I post, at some point

Anyway... pictures. Crits are very welcome. The sketchbook I just finished was mainly focused on faces/heads. Just started a new one, trying to expand to full character design. And the whiteboard stuff at the bottom is crap I've drawn on the sides of cubicles at work this past week.

Oldest stuff on top, newest at bottom.

/\ used ref from google for face /\

Incredible! You have a wild imagination, and your anatomy's pretty good from what I can see, maybe some real life figures could give us a clearer view? But this stuff is great, keep it up

Nice sketches! I really think the cartoony-er ones work really well. A couple of crits though... I'd like to see you more fully render some of this stuff. Work on some textures and really pulling the object into the 3D realm. Another would be to kick up some studies from life, anatomy, etc. The more you draw from life/studies the better you'll become. Trust me. It helps. Keep up the great work. You've got some really fun stuff in here. I'd like to see some of these creations with some color!

zebz - Thanks, and yes, I definately need to start learning the digital painting ropes, and generally polishing some of my sketches a bit more. About a year and a half ago I painted this red guy with my mouse and the smudge tool:

But that's as close as I've ever gotten to digital painting. A friend of mine has a bunch of the gnomon dvd's so I'm gonna try to break into those soon and post whatever I can come up with

Thanks for the comments and crits!

in the mean time....more un-colored digital sketch poo

Omni 1 - Thanks I was inspired by a friend of mine who used to post here and I'm trying to convince to start again (smiling chunder, or just chunder, I dont remember)

Van - thanks... I'm tryin man. Startin at the bottom and workin my way up. Gonna borrow my friend's gnomon dvds soon, hopefully those will help.

Flask - Thanks to you as well, heh. I love drawing on the whiteboards because they force me to use my whole arm when I draw and it's a lot easier to be real loose, plus the uber dark lines make for a style I dont usually get to use in my sketchbook.

Here's my feeble attempt at some greyscale shading on a crappy wacom sketch.. I think I need to start using shades with higher contrast.

Excellent, man. Let me tell ya...I own quite a few gnomon dvd's and I wont deny I learned quite a bit. But, you learn the most by drawing and painting....AS MUCH AS HUMANLY POSSIBLE...and then a bit more. Keep rockin.

Yah, up next is digital painting + life drawing. I'm done with these heads. Time to start drawing real people. I skipped through a couple of the gnomons tonight and I can already see they're gonna help a TON.

Here's the model I'm workin on for the concept I posted a bit ago:

    And of course... more sketching...
