T-DOME: Last Man Standing Round One (Matches 25-36)

T-DOME: Last Man Standing Round One (Matches 25-36)

Here it is, you talented bastards. The time for you to see all your hard work matched up against your random opponents for the first time. Only one person from each match makes it to round two. To everyone who participated, thanks for helping make this dome a memorable one. To everyone who missed the boat this time around , you're still in for a hell of a ride.

Entries are listed in the order the match is listed (ie. Dude1 vs Dude2: Dude1 will be first image listed, Dude2 the second. Amazing!)

Match 25 – Interceptor vs flaptraps

Match 26 – Dsillustration vs Kaoki

Match 27 – VirusArtist vs Summer Pudding

Match 28 – Pan vs Rusty

Match 29 – meeatu vs flex matthews

Match 30 – Beatnik vs Hybridstar

    Entry not submitted

Match 31 – syris vs Sammy

Syris and I took an alternate approach, based on the novel “DAY OF THE TRIFFIDS” published in 1951 by John Wyndham.
In the story, the entire human populous is rendered blind by a dazzling week-long display of strange meteorites in the sky. Soon after strange “Triffid” plants start appearing to harvest/bleed the humans ----- They are capable of uprooting themselves, and though rather slow, are very formidable predators against a newly blind human population. (and they stand as a prediction of biological future warfare – as Wyndham describes later in his book)
To the blinded people of earth, the unidentified Triffids are very much demons.
Syrus and I approached the concept of the Triffid race as if they were a hive mentality in preparation for courtship ----
    - Syrus designing the “Drone Triffid” (Prince)
    - And Sammy designing the “Pre-Mated Queen Triffid” (Princess)

    “Pre-Mated Queen Triffid” (Princess)
The Princess is the largest form or Triffid ---- several times larger than any normal worker Triffid ( 7 feet tall ) ---- for a very specific reason: After courtship she will fold over, root herself, and transform into a biological hive to sprout thousands upon thousands of Triffid workers for her new colony.
In her current ‘Princess’ state she wonders the countryside uprooted, apathetic towards any organism that happens to wonder into her feeders. She is in bloom, and pheromones form a thick blanked across the horizon to attract any ‘Prince’ in the territory.

Match 32 - Groover Mcnab vs john o.

    Match 33 - Dan.v.D. vs p4b10

Match 34 – seb vs xenos

Match 35 – Gloklund vs loomer

Match 36 – Pupil vs Badger

    Lightbulb

Yet another truckload of great work!

flaptraps, DSillustration, Summer Pudding, Pan, Rusty and Sammy, simply stunning stuff. Such an array of moods, colours and themes, you've all carried it off in a different direction but executed very nicely in all cases.

I also like the unorthodox shapes and colours found in p4b10's piece, and the depth of pupil's drawing. Very good!

DSIllustration: Wow, that's brutal! You've definitely got the evilest of the demon princes in the competition.

Summer Pudding: Kickass! Love the transparent skin, and just the general shape of it.

Sammy: Cool take on the topic. I love all the little details, like the monkeys and flowers. Great work.

Loomer, I just wanted you to know that I love the color in your piece and I look forward to trading sketches of our designs. Good Luck my friend.

Maxetormer- Thank you very much, that is a very wonderful compliment. I wanted to try something with a bit of underlying symbolism, something you wouldn't necessarily see at first glance. I also wanted to use the devices of the religious work done in the early Renaissance to try and give it some believability, like this was some demonic cults anit-christ imagery from centuries ago.

Dsillustration - I agree with Marko - this piece is so different than your usual style that I had to check if it's really yours. Great piece tho.

Rusty - great mood, somehow it reminds me of Frazetta - too bad it's not finished.

Summer Pudding - great one, very original - it's my fav in this batch.

Heh, that is bizarre. We must've had some kind of transpacific mind meld or something. I'm just glad I didn't make an ass of myself. You did a lovely job yourself

Summer Pudding's is probably my favorite piece. Seb's is also very nice; I hope you post a larger version at some point so we can see more of the detail. Loomer's is quite cute, and I love Sammy and syris's pieces for the sheer originality of the concept.

    Best of luck to everyone!

Main loop - yeah ...oils. I wish I got a better digital pic...I feel alot of the subtle colors and tones were lost...but I have no one to blame but myself.

DS - you sick fuck..that's great. I especially love the khaki pants on your demon prince

SummerPudding- this piece fuckn owns- very fun to look at

Rusty - beautiful simplicity...I tried to do something with sprawling wings too, but you pulled it off way better

flaptraps..great design...something I also tried to focus on, but yours is super hot

Gloklund - my man. It was the greatest of pleasures doing this with you..Your piece is fantastic...looking forward to that sketch! you said you were doing lots of research and trying to so something different and you succeeded. Cheers to you my man. Very cool doing a challenge with someone who is also so supportive of his competitor...a true gentleman.
